Admiration
I have admired PT boats since I was young, even had the idea once to build one but without the tactical and live on board. My only disappointment in the book is that it gave no definitive blueprints of bulkheads and quarters

Another fine book in this series
As much as I enjoy reading massive doorstop-sized naval technical histories, it's hard for me to deny the appeal of Schiffer's "Legends of Warfare" series. Having purchased the "Enterprise" (CV-6) volume six weeks ago, I'm now up to eight books; it would seem first impressions are important after all! This book's format should be familiar to anyone who's owned a couple of books in this series. After a brief introduction that discusses the earlier (PT-1 through PT-9) designs, the five chapters follow a similar layout: a short several-paragraph introduction and a basic specifications sheet, followed by a series of photographs with informative captions. There are about 230 photographs in all, most of them taken during World War II, and quite a few images of preserved examples in museums. At 128 pages, this isn't the definitive book on PT boats, but it's still surprisingly well-rounded and covers more ground than I'd expected. Along with dramatic images of the boats racing along at high speed, we get photos of them being assembled and on trial, images of life onboard, busy shots of PT bases, closeups of frontline modifications, and overall views of some interesting camouflage schemes. 52 pages are dedicated to the 78-Foot Higgins type, with 37 pages on the 80-Foot Elco, 16 pages on the 77-Foot Elco, eight pages on Elco's PT-10 through PT-19, and five on the Huckins and Canadian Powerboats PTs.Although separate full-length volumes on the Higgins and Elco boats would have provided a bit of breathing room, I'm still happy with this book, and I'm interested to see where this series goes. Perhaps a volume on Gato and Balao-class fleet submarines in the future?

More detail than I thought there would be.
Great book for people who want to know more about the Navy's PT boats.

US Patrol Torpedo Boats

One of the Best Books on American PT boats of WW2
This Book contains a large number of good size pictures mostly in black and white of the various Types of PT Boats, from the early prototypes to the ELCO 80. This is a nice relaxing read with reasonable content, but the pictures say it all, a very good overall look at the American PT boat.I am building a model ELCO 80 and the photos contain wealth of information. I would have like to have seen plans of the various boats but that may be a subject of another book! Please note as with all these WW2 shallow water combat PT Boats, they were modified from day one , repainted different colours, window were covered or painted over, Weapons changed, moved, modified, PT boats slowly though the war changed their focus from Torpedoes being their main weapon to machine guns (.5 inch) and heavy guns (40mm) They were under continual development, as were the the crews.

Expensive
Pretty ordinary content, and not much on field conversions or up armaments
