Works great and far cheaper than the alternatives. I use it to dose ahead of grinding and after grinding.

I found this product while looking for replacement parts for my espresso machine. Turns out it's exactly what I was looking for.The bottom fits my 58mm portafilter perfectly. (Gaggia Baby Twin 2006 version) I've worked this device into my routine, and it's helped a lot with distribution in terms of getting freshly ground coffee into the portafilter evenly. The primary purpose is that this device allows one to shake freshly ground coffee after measuring out a specific weight and then drop it into the portafilter by pulling up on the stopper while twisting. Here's how I use it:1. grind coffee2. place device on scale and remove lid (leaving insert with handle inside)3. zero out scale4. fill with freshly ground coffee until desired weight is achieved5. place lid on device and shake laterally (vertical shaking causes sticker coffee to stick to lid - not a problem if you're into dryer beans or light roasts)6. place on portafilter and pull up stopper while twisting to allow grounds to fall into portafilter as evenly as possible7. while holding doser onto portafilter, tamp and shake a bit to even out distribution - I leave the lid off, but the high walls keep any coffee from escaping8. remove device and then use a distribution tool (if you're looking at this product, you probably know what that is)9. tamp to desired pressure10. mount portafilter on machine and pull shotNOTE: Practice using the device without coffee, or else you may find yourself with coffee all over the place. Holding the device shut is best done by not putting any pressure on the insert - which will cause everything to come apart. Instead, hold the outer portion and the lid without putting pressure on the bottom and you'll be fine.If the surface was anodized or buffed bare / anodized aluminum, I think the coffee would stick less to the internals. (Keep in mind, the surface of aluminum oxidizes, so there's no way any of it will get into your coffee.)So for about 1/5 the price of the original blind doser this is obviously a copy of, I don't mind the extra steps of bumping the portafilter while holding onto the doser. If you shake vertically, I recommend placing a towel over the top and bumping it with a heavy tamper to get most of the grounds off the inside of the lid.Those who have the equipment/skills may want to consider stripping the finish and buffing the device, which I might do eventually. In the meantime, the matte black finish looks pretty cool, even if it makes the device less effective than the original one.If I owned a coffee shop, I'd buy 5 or 10 and put my logo on the lids. You can measure out shots and keep them fresh for a few extra minutes with these, so that adds another feature aside from the intended purchase.With grind quality and tamping pressure dialed in to the roast I'm working with, I'm getting excellent shots on a more consistent basis - which is the point of devices like this. Great buy!

Every bit as good as any of the expensive name brands

Excited to use it, then notice this item prolong the espresso preparation time. The extra process is not worth it.

Ampliamente recomendable para dosificar y romper los grumos. Si trabajan con cafés de grado especialidad y tuestes medios y medios claros, les será de mucho utilidad incluso al calibrar. En mi caso, uso una canasta IMS 18-22 y me ha funcionado muy bien para ir ajustando la dosis, y a la vez, deshacer los grumos cuando uso cafés con tuestes muy claros no desarrollados explícitamente para espresso, o bien, moliendas muy finas.

Good if you don’t have other accessories

Returned. Pretty clunky and retains a fair amount of grounds due to static. Not for me.
