STUDIO GHIBLI Fashion My Neighbor Totoro Canvas backpack School bag

I bought this because I really, really like Studio Ghibli, and Totoro was one of my favorite Ghibli films as a kid. And the bag is adorable and very sturdy!So, the good things:It arrived quickly, and was packaged decently. It's also much bigger than I thought it was! You can easily fit a standard-sized binder in it, with one medium-sized textbook or two small ones, and still have room left for your wallet and random miscellaneous purse items.The bag is actually very sturdy--I used to all last semester to lug my textbooks around. I was afraid that, like some commenters said, my straps would tear off, but I guess I must have gotten one of the 'new and improved' bags, because mine were sewn with the X seam reinforcing them, and I've had no problems so far. (I bought the bag in February and used it throughout the last semester.) The canvas that makes up most of the bag is the durable kind, so it doesn't feel the least bit flimsy or starchy, and the shoulder straps are reinforced with canvas, as well, layered with the artificial leather. My only complaint is that the hanging strap (the small one on top) isn't reinforced, so mine is starting to feel a little strained. Still, as I was saying, I've been carrying it around by one strap, stuffing heavy textbooks and binders in it, dropping it on the floor, and yanking on the zipper tabs at weird angles, and it's holding up beautifully.The bad things:This bag is generic. There, I said it. If you look closely, you can see that Totoro is not fully detailed, and the smaller Totoro-creature on his head is rendered as just a triangle. His ears are also shaped wrong, and he is missing his whiskers and nose. I actually think this is kind of cute, though, since it makes me think of a cuter Japanese ogre--Oni Totoro.At this point, though, I don't really care, since overall the bag is great. It's cute, it's durable, and I like it!

Others spoke of ripped straps but luckily the sellers/manufacturer took these reviews into account and added extra support on the strap. The straps appear sturdy and are holding up for my college textbooks. The bag is super cute. The leather is smooth and has a clean sharp look.It is not visible in the pictures but all the leather edges have a light blue accent that is perfect. The bag has plenty of pockets. There is an outside side zipper pocket,a zipper pocket under the flap , a zipper pocket inside the bag , and 2 pouches inside the bag.Would definitely recommend this bag to others.

For the record murse is a man purse. a receptacle for all the eclectic crap that one carries with them from day to day. Because of this item i don't need to wear cargo pants every other day! yay! BUT i am using it as a back pack and it only has enough room for about two text books. and a couple folders. So to make it work i got rid of my binder, which i need to get rid of anyway, and i ot a pencil bag and a bunch of folders so that it would all fit. but it is durable enough for thirty dollars and i can fit everything i need if i get creative. And this bag is for creative minds anyway i just hold my textbook and i can carry everything else. also on another note i love how the belts that hold the main flap down can be detatched by buttons! those spots where the belts are attached can be undone by buttons! it is more durable than the reviews so and also just get a ruler out and soo how big it is for your self cause if you read the reveiws you'll think it is bigger than it is and if you don't you'll think its smaller tha it is. great for price!This is for use as a murse. It will not do well as a backpack. it can hold the stress of all the folders and a pencil bag it has bad durability so don't get it for a full on match.

My daughter wanted a Totoro Backpack, and rather than get a cheap and obvious-looking one I thought this one would have more longevity as she grew up. The style is great, very subtle. She even discovered that the front buckle straps have buttons beneath them for much quicker access. I think this will be great once she goes to college as she won't "outgrow" the style.Now a word about the straps. One did break on the first say when she put all her school books in the bag. I contacted the seller and they asked if it was fixable then they would give a partial refund. I took it to a dry-cleaning place and had them properly sew both in place(I think with leather), and it hasn't been a problem since.

I love the style of this bag, but the construction leaves much to be desired. The shoulder straps ripped away from the base of the bag at the back after just one use. The rip was substantial enough that I was afraid the the entire strap was going to come off. I ended up gluing and tapping the strap back in place because the rip didn't allow for sewing. I was also afraid that if I tried to sew the strap back in place, the pleather wouldn't be strong enough to hold the stitches. Both of the loops that keep the front straps in place fell off of my bag after one use. While frustrating, it's not a deal breaker because there are snaps as well that allow easy access. Over all, this is a super cute medium sized bag, but I wouldn't put anything too heavy in it. I would only use it for very light applications.

This bag is just like the photo shows - cute, the leather and canvas look sweet together, and the blue lining is pretty darn cute too.I like the bag, its light weight without feeling like it'll break apart soon and the size looks great on your back; not too big or small.I'd say I like the material better than say H&M's canvas bags' because their leather looks too fake and obvious, so I prefer the subdued canvas and leatherette much more myself. The Studio Ghibli logo's placement looks great and there are 4 colors on the bag to go with any outfit.I'd recommend this bag, its so cute and you get a postcard with it!

I've not had issues with the straps of my bag like the other reviewer, but then I'm using mine more like a handbag (in case it's an issue of weight on the straps themselves). It's a pretty big bag, the pockets are nice and I really like the little front pocket for easy access. I'm really pleased with it and it makes me smile as I'm a big fan. One niggle is when you first get it you might want to air it out as it has a pretty strong smell of canvas (only to be expected with a canvas bag), I found some body spray did the trick for a few days until the odour subsided.Updated after three months - very unhappy. The leather has torn right under the stitching that attaches the strap at the bottom of the bag. I've only used this as a handbag so no particularly heavy items in it. I love the bag but I'm very disappointed at the quality.

First off, the design is great and my daughter loved it, looks really pretty classy, and there are a number of useful pockets, even the lining looks cool, with a repeating Totoro motif. Here's the 'but', the vinyl material it is made of is weak and the construction is shoddy. After using it for four days it ripped at the bottom strap, it was being used as a school bag and was carrying a fair number of books, but it's sold as school bag, so it ought to be up to that job. I wish they'd made it out of real leather or simply used canvas throughout as it is a cool looking bag. I'd pay a fair bit more if they'd made it more robust and basically up to the job, but as it is, it's only useful as a prop. I wish I'd read the reviews first as many people seem to have found the exact same flaw, but rather bizarrely given it more than one star despite it being completely unfit for purpose. I'm returning the one I bought for a refund, reluctantly, as I don't believe a replacement would not suffer the same fate within days.

I absolutely loved this bag when I saw it and loved it even more when I received it. I intended to use the bag for work, lugging around my lunch and uniform every day. Unfortunately it would seem that the bag is not really intended for anything other than looking pretty as within two weeks one strap had completely detatched from the stitching and the other was very close to following.Sadly I was left with no choice but to return the item.I would consider buying the bag again but it wouldn't be for anything other than occassional light use due to the quality.

I bought this bag towards the middle of August and used it as my hand luggage for a trip to Turkey, no problems. Once school started and a slightly more substantial load was put in (a few books and a pencil case), the leather-style part at the bottom ripped clean off the canvas, leaving the lining exposed. The leather itself did not hold any attempts at repair and tore incredibly easily. The straps came off the canvas a couple of weeks later, leaving the bag unusable. As this was after the 30 days return policy I couldn't return it, so it was a pretty good waste of money. I would recommend this bag for sale only to those who are either very capable at sewing and repairs, or to those who intend to use it solely as an accessory.Overall, the bag did look great, with details unseen in the pictures, but the low quality of some components rendered it useless.

I love this bag, there's lots of pockets and compartments and the size of the bag is really good and hold quite a bit of stuff (like a packed lunch with space to spare), its super cute, the only reason why i didn't give it five stars is one of the shoulder straps started coming away in the first week I had it :(
