Gorgeous Jazz Arrangements and original compositions
I love playing Mark Hayes advanced arrangements. These are gorgeous jazz arrangements of hymns, spirituals, gospel songs and some original Mark Hayes compositions. They are definitely advanced and worth all the effort to play them. The people at my church love Mark Hayes arrangements that I play. Craig Curry also has many jazz arrangements of Christian songs that I play.

Love This Book
This book by Mark Hayes is great fun to play. The arrangements of Precious Lord, and Just a Closer Walk are my favorites. There are several selections that are easy to sight-read. Mark Hayes has a beautiful arrangements, with nice harmonies and a few runs. Some of the rhythms are a little challenging at first.

Great arrangements. These make me think
Great arrangements. These make me think, and I actually had to count out some of the rhythms - which is a nice challenge for an advanced pianist! Nice chords, great voicings. Some run on a little long; Precious Lord and Amazing Grace could have been shortened by a verse, but if you're filling time in a church service you might need the extra.

nice jazz arrangements
This book has some nice arrangements, but is quite a bit harder than his "Hymns Harmonized" book. These songs will take quite a bit of practice for me, and some songs have 32nd note runs, and that is where I usually bail out. I like the "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" arrangement- my favorite out of this book. Some of Mark Hayes' books come with a CD, this one doesn't. Too bad... it would be helpful.

Sacred music
These are all jazzy arrangements of Christian music. Mark Hayes is the best but this is difficult (advanced) music.

Musicality
This collection of jazz arrangements of gospel hymns adds considerable interest to their melodic lines, and marks a great departure from such arrangements available in the 1950s and later when a jazz treatment would have been unacceptable for being "worldly" music.
