Great tank printer value and design, very low odor ink.
I was impressed with the quality of this printer design and no mess setup despite having to fill the big tanks. Some engineers at Canon did a great job on the details of the tank and fill bottle system. Watch their videos on setup and you will have it ready to go in 10 minutes. The most time waiting is right after power up as it must prime the tubes and print heads. It has very low fresh ink odor - better than some dye inks and to me, way better than most pigment inks. Print quality looks good.I hope the paper feed system will hold up well with age.

Not Worth the Money or Time
Setting this up was difficult - there was inadequate customer support. I was very polite because I hoped someone along the way could fix my issue - the power cord plug did not fit at the printer connection.I first ordered a replacement cord, thinking I had a defective cord. When the second cord also did not fit, I called customer support to make sure I'd ordered the correct cord. That was a trip into despair. Finally, since I had 2 power cords, and neither would fit into the space provided (but the connection part looked like a fit), I got a knife and shaved the sides off the plug until I'd shaved enough plastic off that i could push the plug into place. That worked. A simple fix that not one of the 11 different tech support people with whom I spoke even thought of. None of them believed me when I said the plug did not fit into the space in the back of hte printer - they all thought it was my personal error. It wasn't. The outside part of the plug actually literally genuinely was too big to fit into the space provided. After I fixed the plug all on my own (well, my pocket knife was very useful here, so shout out to Opinel!), the rest of the set-up was easy enough. Everything worked fine. I was happy with the device. It printed lovely pages. The error messages were clear and easily fixed (out of paper, paper jam were the 2 most common messages).Canon also spams you with "join this group" and "be a good customer, buy this thing" emails. i've opted out of the email multiple times, and still get spammed by them. This behavior tells me they know their products have become inferior. I didn't know just how inferior.I ran the suggested maintenance to keep the ink nozzles clear and unclogged.I purchased this printer in August of 2023. In July 2024, the color ink nozzles started clogging despite the suggested maintenance. calls to tech support resulted in no help. Two of them said the printer was out of warranty, even though it was not. One of them finally, reluctantly, told me I could purchase replacement nozzles - not ideal, but workable except - Canon no longer SELLS the nozzles for this printer.Finding replacement nozzles was a journey but I managed to find some.I have been procrastinating putting the new nozzles in. If these off-brand nozzles work, I will update this review.UPDATE (9/29/24) I installed the off-brand printer head nozzles. The color now works, but the black printer head stopped working. I finally located and installed the black printer head nozzle, and the color printer head nozzles stopped working.I'm now out over $100 trying to get this device to print.I just want to say, if Canon is still selling this printer (and they are), then they should provide authentic replacement parts. If I had genuine Canon parts instead of having to hunt for and buy off-brand parts, maybe I wouldn't be having these issues. If you're not techie minded, this is not the printer for you. It requires a lot of maintenance and a lot of tinkering to keep it functioning on the hardware side. A lot of rigging and McGyvering goes into using it.Pick a different printer.Canon used to be a name one could rely on for quality. I don't know what changed, but from manufacturing to tech support, they've lost that edge of well-made they once had. The Canon name now means "inferior".Pick a different brand. Pick a different printer. Don't buy Canon.

It's great!
I am very pleased with this printer. I have never set up a printer, and had a lot of trepidation about setting it up. I went to the website link found on the front of the manual, and it walked me through step by step. It turned out to be super simple, straight forward, and easy! No technical issues whatsoever. It has a small footprint, and is on the lighter weight side of printers, which I wanted. The colors are excellent as well.It can also be connected via USB, for backup purposes, which was important to me (it doesn't come with the cable but that is ok).Super excited to own my first printer!

Nice printer with some quirks that's also dual voltage 100-240v 50/60Hz
There's not a lot to add to the already thorough reviews for this printer, aside from clearing up mistaken information given so people know once and for all that this printer is, in fact, dual voltage. So, for those of you who need to use it overseas while on military deployment or whatever, yes, the G5020 works on 100-240v 50/60Hz! I asked this question before I purchased it, and every answer said it was USA-style 110v only. Not so! I've attached a picture from the bottom of the printer, so you can clearly see for yourself that it will also work on 220-240v in Europe, etc....I'm using the G5020 in Belgium right now and it's fine on 230v 50Hz power; it just needed the adapter plug. The only documentation I could eventually find that listed the dual voltage chops of this printer was on Canon's website for the MacOS setup pdf. If I hadn't found that, then I wouldn't have purchased it due to the answers I received. I deleted the question on here so others wouldn't be misled if they were in the same situation, and hopefully they'll see this. The 6020 and 7020 are also dual voltage, of course, since they're the same printer with additional scan, copy and fax features.Quirk 1. No usb cable was included for setup or otherwise. A bit annoying, actually, but it can be set up with ethernet, wifi or directly on the printer's tiny lcd panel, so not a deal breaker. This brings us to Quirk 2. As others have said, follow the included instructions for setup step by step in the proper order, or you'll have issues. It has a download address for Canon printer software during setup. When you get to the printer connection type and you choose ethernet or wifi, make sure you set up the netword connection on the printer before proceeding with the software installation. As in...be sure to select ethernet cable or wifi before proceeding and complete the process on the printer lcd screen. Otherwise, the software can't find the printer to set it up. Most printers prompt you to complete this step to proceed. Not this one. So weird. Oddly enough, as soon as I did this, the printer set itself up without the sofware and I had to wait and then install the software and go back through setup.I'm using this printer on MacOS Big Sur 11.5.1 and the print quality is fine. Black text is razor sharp on plain paper. Color is good as well, but lets be serious here, the big draw for this printer is the ink bottle refill system (which works so slick it'll make you smile when you refill) rather than uber-expensive toner cartridges, so most hopefully aren't expecting outstanding color photo print quality. It's not that type of printer! However, if you print much at all in color, you'll save a ton on ink. If you only print in color occasionally or rarely, it's even better: No more 18 month expiration of cartridges to worry about (I've been burned more than once on expired cartridges that stopped working even though they were nearly full or completely new and unused).Happily recommended!
