Great pen! Fine line is extra fine and writes beautifully!
I bought the matte gold with lizard finish in the Fine nib. The color is gorgeous! Two pictures in the product section show kind of green but there is a picture of the pen in the case which is very close to the color. The true color is a little deeper and richer yhan the picture. It's definitely in the bronze family and not gold which I didn't want. It's very understated and elegant and has a little matte texture feel to the pen so it feels solid and not slippy in your hand. I've been using a Lamy EF with Noodler's purple ink and I have not been able to get a fine line and the ink just pours out leaving smears everywhere. I thought I would try the Pilot and match it with the Noodler's Q'Ternity aka Bernanke Blue Black because of the fast dry time. Wow! What a combo! It's exactly what I was hoping for! The pen has a nice weight and is even a little heavier than my Lamy. The line is extra fine on the fine nib. It is fairly close to a Pilot V5 but even finer. I would put it between a 3mm and a 5mm line. I've begun using a Midori Travelers Notebook and the Pilot/Q'Ternity combo is heaven in the Midori. No bleeding. No smearing. No feathering. Even on the fine paper Midori insert there is no bleed through. The ink can be seen through the pages but it's not distracting and does not affect legibility. I was getting really annoyed with my handwriting with the Lamy but I'm happy once again with the Pilot. Very nice control and the fine lines are great. I can't believe this pen is so inexpensive. Everything about it feels quality and high end.

A fantastic, inexpensive pen that every fountian enthusiest should own.
Fantastic pen. This was my starter pen when I got into fountains. Its completely maintenance free and very simple to use. Substantial feel in the hand gives you very positive feed back and the nib is pretty solid for something so inexpensive. I love everything about this pen. Some will complain about the ink bladder and how it is actually the cheap cleaning device for more expensive pilot pens. This is true. On the other hand, it is a completely functional bladder, and you are free to buy the proper screw type ink chamber if you so desire. I have never seen a need as you cant see through the case anyway, so who exactly are you trying to impress with something they cant see? At this point, I have bought several pens, and this is still one of the ones I carry, its just that good. Ultimately , this is a pen that punches far above its weight class. Do yourself a favor and pick one up.Another thing I should point out is that while the smallest this pen comes is with a fine nib, the pilot plumix shares the same nib with the metropolitan and comes in a much wider range of sizes. I currently use mine with an EF, but I have stubs and bolds to go to if I should ever need them. In this way you really get several pens in one.The only thing I would change is that the front grip is smooth and doesn’t really offer any real grip. Now this can be seen as a good thing, as it wont catch on anything, but again, it doesn’t offer up any real grip either.Other than that, this is a great pen, and should defiantly make it into your rotation.

It’s just a good pen.
Look, I’m not a fancy pen aficionado. My parents low-key collected fountain pens when I was a kid, and I did a stint as an art kid, so I’m a little bit fussy about writing instruments, but I don’t like… know anything about fountain pens. I’ve used the Pilot Precise V5 rollerball for years, but recently started missing the smoothness of a fountain pen. I picked up a couple of the Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pens to re-acquaint myself with this type of pen, enjoyed it, and decided to get something refillable. This pen is lovely. It feels a lot nicer than a disposable pen, it writes smoothly and neatly (I got the fine nib and have used it on just literally any paper with no problems), but it’s less than $20 so it’s not going to be the end of the world if something happens to it.If you’re a real fancy pen person, this may not be your jam. If you just want to level up from disposable pens, this is a great, accessible option.

A very nice FP for a very nice price
It's very hard to choose between a 4 and 5 star review, but I'm going with 4, for reasons I'll explain below. This review is for the pen in Gold Lizard, with a fine nib (Fountain).I write this as a FP user who is far from an expert, but has basic experience with about a dozen different low cost pens over 4-5 years. When the pen arrived I was very excited to try it out along with the Noodler's bulletproof black ink that I bought at the same time. Both the pen and ink were new to me. [My usual inks are Skrip and Qink, but I've been hearing such good things about Noodler's that I had to try it]Opening the box I found it to be nicely packaged, in a case of about the expected quality for the price of the pen. Simple, but sufficient -- there are pictures in other reviews, so I won't go into much detail here. Good enough for a casual gift, doesn't pretend to be an upscale gift. The pen already had the converted loaded, which I immediately put to use, so I am not reviewing the included ink cartridge, but one was included to get you started if you don't have bottled ink to use.First I flushed the pen with a pen cleaner to ensure that it wouldn't have any trouble feeding ink, rinsed it out, and gave it a fill. The converter is a sac type with a lever to squeeze the sack. For this reason I knocked .25 star off of the review. While many say that sacs are better, I personally prefer clear plastic converters that allow me to see how much ink is remaining and to ensure that I got a good fill. Filling it was fairly easy, I just put the tip of the nib in the bottle and squeezed it and released it slowly 4 or 5 times until no air bubbles were coming out when I squeezed it. Easier and cleaner than the screw or piston type converters, so I may end up changing my mind about which is better as time goes on.A quick wipe of the section and I was ready to write! This review comes after completely using that first fill of ink over a two day period. The writing was nice -- a very sharp and even line. The nib is nice and smooth and started immediately on the first stroke. Fast or slow, it always started the first time except for when I would leave it uncapped for too long (3 or 4 minutes), at which time it would hesitate a little on the first stroke, but quickly pick right back up and start writing. A thinner/wetter ink would probably be even better in this regard, but I've not had a chance to try them yet. It seemed fairly forgiving of angle, not being too picky about keeping the nib correctly oriented to the paper. It would not write with the nib upside down, but since it draws such a fine line to begin with there's not much reason to care. There was a fair amount of ink creep on the face of the nib, which doesn't look nice, but since this is my first experience with this ink and then pen I'm not sure whether to blame the ink or the nib. It wasn't enough to cause blotting or a wet sticky cap.The converter doesn't look like it holds very much ink, but the line on this pen is so fine that it's very miserly with the ink and it lasts a long time. I wrote, doodled, and scribbled a good 20 or so pages before running out of ink, with very little warning -- it was writing perfectly, then just stopped. Squeezing the converter wouldn't give me enough ink in the feed to coax even another sentence out of it, which means that I'll need a backup pen or to keep it well topped off. That said, given how much it wrote there's NO WAY that I'll run out of ink in a normal day of writing.So... I took off .25 star for the converter, where's the other .75 star go? This one is a little more serious for me and it's the comfort of the pen. Is is well balanced, a good weight, a good length, etc... but the transition from the barrel to the section is too sharp. I found myself having to hold the pen much more carefully than I'd like to ensure that it wasn't digging into my finger. Yes, a lighter grip would be a good thing, and something I should practice, but for now I had to be very careful to position my hand lower on the section to avoid a sore finger. In my mind, this is the biggest and only real flaw with this pen, which I'm sure will now be my daily carry pen.(attached image written with this pen, Noodler's Bulletproof black, on average grade printer paper)

Love it
I love how fine the pen writes and the way it looks. I'll probably purchase more. The only issue is that the cap doesn't stay on if you put it on the end of the pen while writing, so you kind of have to hold the cap in hand or just keep track of it because you can't stick it on the end of the pen.

Very nice looking starter fountain pen
Very nice looking starter fountain pen. The matte gold looks like a champagne color which gives it an elegant look, as does the lizard accent versus some of the other geometric accents. Ink flows relatively well, but a little finer than I would like, and probably finer than other fine ink fountain pens. Nice weight and good balance. Overall good value.

Being extra fine ink flow isn't great but still can write slowly ...
Being extra fine ink flow isn't great but still can write slowly without problem. Converter does not seem to hold ink much so need to refill more regularly than my other pens. In any case I purchased another one with medium min and that works better. I like the pen design and it has the right weight.
