Chicago Brew Werks 14" Plastic Hydrometer Test Jar,Clear,B00SLY3ES2

I bought this to replace my hydrometer glass tube that my wife broke. This guy is a bit wider than anticipated, but it does the job. Only complaint is that it takes a lot more product to measure than my original tube.

This looked like a nice accessory for testing fluids when brewing wine, cider or beer. However, the plastic is cheap and when accidentally dropped, quickly broke. Needs to be made of better grade plastic to resist falls without breaking. Size was excellent for using larger hydrometers. Would be nice if the markings were either marked with black paint or highlighted somehow in a different color besides clear.

I finally broke down and got me a hydrometer, and this one worked perfectly.

I was gonna take a picture. But I don't want to go through the time to do that. The one I got was very cheap plastic. Clear plastic base and a nice crack along the cylinder. Again not even worth sending it back, it would cost more in gas to take it the local Kohls. It does its job. Maybe make them a cheaper price like $1. 👍

Product arrived cracked at the top but I think I can still use my hydrometer. It's disappointing to get a broken package, but I'm confident it's related to mail delivery rather than the quality of the product. I'm only posting here on the off chance that this might increase consumer education of future buyers.

Holds a bit too much for just reading hydrometer. But if I drop it, it probably won't shatter into a billion pieces like my glass one did.....

Different than pictured. Mine had graduated markings on it. Looking at other reviews, luckily mine came intact with no cracks or anything. The only problem with it is it's huge. It's so wide that each sample is going to be several ounces to float the hydrometer. The markings end about an inch from the top, at 320mL (~11 ounces). I don't need to fill the whole thing, obviously, but even at half full that's a lot of beer to lose on a gravity sample. On the plus side, because it's so wide it's easy to get a clear read and the hydrometer isn't touching the sides?At least it was cheap, I'll probably look for something slimmer/shorter so I'm wasting less on each sample.

Perfect for making mead! Didn't come with the hydrometer but was able to get them together as a combo were the test jar was made cheaper. Easy to clean too.

Great measuring jar, but it broke in shipping, not to fan of this
