High-value EDC option.
The CC-2 Rescue is my favorite knife of the Byrd line. Heavy-duty sheep-foot blade design retains its full spine thickness all the way to the tip. Hollow-ground serrated edge is razor sharp out of the box. Action is smooth, lockup is solid. Both can be adjusted to the operator's preference with pivot and lock-bar screws. Lightweight FRN handles provide excellent grip and control of the cutting edge. With a bit of practice, easily deploys into hammer or reverse hammer grips, by wrist flick only, without touching thumb to blade. The thumb-hole opens even more deployment possibilities. The CC-2 Rescue is rugged, light weight, heavy duty, low-maintenance, sharp and dependable. For those who can handle the size, it is an excellent EDC choice. For those who prefer a more compact EDC option, a smaller Meadowlark-sized Rescue model is also available. Many people say the Byrd makes good knives for the money. I reject that insulting disclaimer. These knives are not designed to be worn as jewelry with your tuxedo. They are intended to be used, day in and day out. Within that context, they are excellent performers, regardless the cost.

A must have beater blade for yard work.
I have a few custom & Midtech knives plus several Spyderco knives. So, I snagged this one to try out the fully serrated blade some folks rave about. I figured it couldn't hurt to have a beater blade in this format. This thing works awesome for what yard/house work I do: cutting zip ties, small branches (it will saw through them), opening dozens of mulch bags, few play sand bags, weed eater string, junk that wraps around mower & weed eater spindles, bug killer bags, fertilizer bags, dog and cat food bags and this list goes on. I have had it a few months now and have zero complaints. It is large enough to handle with heavy gloves on. With a little practice you can open one handed. It has held a edge better than expected. Not needed yet, however I have some ceramic rods to touch it up with. But not too worried as I don't need razor sharp, even though it came that way. It actually came scary sharp out the box. I couldn't find a flaw on the knife or edge. The clip is strong and hasn't let it fall off my pocket. I have lost a few and hit some other brand knives with the mower in the past. I have been thinking about getting a spare to keep in my vehicle glove box. It could easily save lives in a emergency, like cutting a seat belt or clothing off. Get one and you will be impressed.

Thing's a Beast! (Pics are 100,000 hard miles later.)
Absolutely awesome. I'm in construction. I've always been a serrated kind of guy. This Byrd was the last of my searching. This thing's a beast. I use it as a saw more often than not, and I can't kill the damn thing. As an out-and-about knife, i carry a Benchmade. Im not a cheapskate, I just don't want to have to worry about punishing a knife at work. Buy'm cheap, beat them for 6 mos and buy another. I need'm solid, sharp and thin. This thing just kills it in all 3 categories. It's impossible to dull! Don't blow this decision on flash and bang, buy yourself a beast. You can give it to your son in 6 mos when you buy another. These pics are after the equivalent of 100,000 miles. Hard miles. I always have another, new one on standby at home, i just don't need it! I can't wait to use it, but the last one keeps on killin'.

My CERT SAR Knife
I'm a LAFD Community Emergency Response Team member, and this blade rides in my search and rescue bag. It has razor sharp serrations with a thick spine and heavy duty saber grind. The blade profile has a useable tip for utility tasks if held at an angle, but it isn't a hazard to a patient when held normally edge opposite the patients body. Handle pattern gives great traction combined with the thumb ramp jimping; the finger choil is jimped as well offering good traction and control should this knife be used to cut close to a patient while bloody. It is heavier than the regular Cara Cara 2 given the grind, but it's overall a very capable tool for a reasonable weight. Although I dont like mid lock knives for EDC, the inexpensive strength it offers is appreciated over a liner lock in its intended role. Like all Byrd knives I've owned, they're filthy on the inside & need a good cleaning and reassembly. If you're craving a smooth fall shut action but aren't willing to put the work in to clean, lubricate, and assemble properly, I can't recommend this blade. Additionally, the screws on Byrd knives are more prone to strip than spyderco value line knives (Tenacious family, made in same factory) and require care during dissasembly. Ultimately if you need a capable rescue tool on a budget, this is your knife.

Thick
Absolute beast. Better than anything else you'll find in this price range. If you work on the water can't beat Spyderedge.

Strong Blade, Great Price, Very Sharp.
You should note that this blade is a Byrd which is a division of Spyderco. I bought this because Spyderco is a name I trust. For as long as I can remember one has been hanging off of my dads pocket. This is essentially a less expensive copy of the one he uses. So far it seems to be just as strong and sharp. Overall I am happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent utility or rescue knife. It opens easily even while wearing heavy-duty or structural firefighting gloves and is comfortable in your hands and easy to grip.

this is the byrd but it's 95% as nice as the spyderco at an almost disposable price.
I have owned a spyderco mariner and a spyderco rescue in the past as my daily carry. the mariner was my constant companion for 8 years and when i lost it i couldn't afford to replace it as it was a custom in left hand tip up carry. i replaced it then with a much less expensive rescue in what was then the new clip that the user could alter from right to left hand carry. carried it for another 10 years. the balance wasn't as nice as the mariner but performed in every other way identically. the rescue was lost under circumstances that indicate that further and more frequent losses are likely to happen. I didn't want to replace it with another 75 dollar knife. this knife feels a little more secure in the hand and otherwise feels and cuts just like the rescue, but for 22 bucks delivered prime. i doubt it will be as rust resistant as the SALT but neither was my 10 year old rescue. when i inevitably lose this one i will only be out 22 bucks. if you lead a life where you may need to cut lines or webbing in a hurry with only one hand free, a knife like this should be your constant companion. it's really tough to beat this one for the price. if rust resistance is most important to you go ahead and get the Spyderco SALT. but if performance is more important that aesthetics go ahead and save on this one.

Great tool specific for cutting heavy rope and webbing
Let me start by saying I own every tool imaginable. Why? Because they all have specific functions. This knife has a specific function. Cutting rope and webbing. It is superb at cutting through materials suck as a seatbelt type webbing or thick rope. I have tested on many heavy materials that keenly sharp knifes have a tough time with and Nothing I have ever owned comes close. Why is it great? Three reasons 1) it has serrations (entire blade length) 2) it is sharp 3) long blade length (4inches). Is this a "sexy knife" with nice ergo handle, great balance NO! When I opened the box I though "crap" one of these cheap chineese $5 disposable knifes. Then I put it to work. It s superb! I only write reviews when a product is either fantastic or it sucks. This is a fantastic tool for $25.

Warum also jetzt das Cara 2 Rescue? 😉
