1989's "Savage Beach" makes its blu-ray debut courtesy of Mill Creek Entertainment
Mill Creek Entertainment continues its superb series of blu-ray releases of writer/director Andy Sidaris' filmography with 1989's "Savage Beach" which makes its blu-ray debut. One of my main criticisms of his 1988 film "Picasso Trigger" (which also got a blu-ray release) is that the plot was too complex for its own good and unfortunately "Savage Beach" shares that same issue as well. This did not greatly diminish my enjoyment of the film. We all watch an Andy Sidaris film to see voluptuous babes frequently getting naked in exotic locales along with gloriously over the top action sequences more often than not punctuated by huge explosions. "Savage Beach" delivers those attributes splendidly but the incomprehensible plot sometimes gets in the way. 1987's "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" is my pick for Andy Sidaris' best film as the plot while being completely unbelievable was still simple enough to follow and act as basic support to beautiful women, bountiful nudity and explosions. While "Savage Beach" does not reach the heights of his 1987 exploitation masterpiece, it still has a lot to offer fans as long as they don't try to make sense of what is going on overall.Mill Creek Entertainment brings "Savage Beach" to blu-ray sporting a 1.78:1 widescreen transfer restored in 4K from the original camera negative utilizing the AVC codec at a bit rate averaging around 35 on a dual layer disc. I thought that the film looked fantastic with superb detail, natural flesh tones, and accurate contrast and black levels. No digital tinkering appears to have been done as the transfer sports a healthy grain structure which is never intrusive looking like natural 35 millimeter film. Fans will be ecstatic.Audio is in 2 channel master audio sounding great overall. English subtitles are included for the hearing impaired. All extras from the special edition DVD from many years ago were ported over including an informative commentary track, a 43 minute making of featurette, a brief optional introduction and trailers for "Savage Beach" and 11 of his other films. A digital code is also included."Savage Beach" has some big issues in the plot department but still delivers where it counts for fans of filmmaker Andy Sidaris. The women are gorgeous and the action over the top. While I would advise newcomers to watch "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" first, "Savage Beach" is still a lot of cheesy late 80's fun.

Remake of Charlies Angel's maybe??
this movie was made back in the 70's by how they looked and dressed, but, you could almost say this was a re-make of the Charlie's angels, but with four girlsand someone else stands in for the real charlie, so look for some charlie's angels moves the four girls all work for the government and they have a handler , just charlie, but he is younger,so charlie sends 2 of the girls to Maui to get a hospital some life saving medicineand they crash land on the way back, on another island which is way off courseonly to find out later, there is a couple of other guys there and the girls wonder who they are and why are they thereand just as the girls are getting comfortable swimming in the ocean bare ass naked, there is half man, half animal shows up on the beach with a sword and he seems like he wants to kill the girls as well, but later we find out this manhas been living on this island by himself for years, at the end of the movie , you find out , just who is really is and whyhe is there also a couple other guys show up announced on the island as well and they are searching for somethingthe girls have no idea why and they try to stay away from them, things happen suddenly and we find out whats the real reason for all of the guys being on the desiccant island, which is rarely ever in habits anyone!there is lots of bare breast and the women use there good looks to get what they MOST of the time!

For fans of silicone
It has been decades since I watched an Andy Sidaris flick, but nothing has changed. The plot is predictable, if one can call it a plot. There is no quality acting, but I suspect viewers don’t watch his films for the acting nor the dialogue. There are double entendres and gaps in logic. In this film they stumble upon a WWII Japanese soldier hiding on the island. Since the film was made in 1989, it would make the soldier in his sixties, and he certainly has held up well, and his remarkable uniform only shows a pattern of holes and small tears. A box of gold is dug up, buried for all those years, yet the box looks new, the Philippine flag on it like it was just painted, and the gold is shiny. But then again, those who watch his movies are not looking for details like that. And of course there is the obligatory hot tub scene.

Kind of like "USA Up All Night!"
If you've never seen an Andy Sidaris film, and you miss those cheesy old action flicks from "USA Up all Night!" - you definitely need to check this stuff out. It's trashy, there's explosions, lots of guns and lots of girls! The plots and dialog aren't anything to write home about, but this Mill Creek transfer is fantastic! If you're nostalgic for late 80's and early 90's cheese...snag a blu-ray or two!

A fun little flic...
Now, don't expect top notch acting and directing, it wasn't. But it was still an enjoyable little movie.
