This is a pioneer book about breeding marine tropical fish. It is loaded with tips and tricks that are of interest to any marine aquarium hobbyist. The aspiring marine fish breeder and the professional aquaculturist will be even more enlightened. It includes information never before in print about captive biology, food culture, larval rearing, and juvenile grow out. Aquarium system structure and maintenance are also included. Review: Not a textbook but a very fun read! - This is not a textbook on breeding Pseudochromis Fridmani. It is simply Martin Moe's journal from his attempt at breeding this species in the 1990's. It is a fascinating read and I do believe I learned a lot from following his path and his trials and errors. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in breeding marine fish, especially those who would like to experiment with new species. While Martin Moe is not the first person to breed P.fridmani, he is the first person to breed the species at a hobbyist level and he started with very little information about larval rearing for this species. It really makes you appreciate the amount of information we have on P.fridmani now. Review: Well written. - A very comprehensive work on breeding the species covering all aspects of production. The author takes you along with his experience minute by minute. Need to be patient as it is in journal style and relevant information is padded with much discussion.

Its written in an easy informative log of his work
A work by a pioneer in Marine fish breeding. Informative, before there was complete data on the rearing of a Dottyback doable by an aquarist. Its written in an easy informative log of his work, with humor, and is a benchmark in the captive breeding of a popular marine aquarium fish. It makes an excellent guide for anyone interested in the breeding of Dottybacks.

This book is AWFUL
Absolutely worthless if you're interested in learning about how to breed fish professionally. This book is an anecdotal story by a hack who used horrible animal husbandry. After reading this book I wished I'd never wasted my money. Absolutely the most worthless book on saltwater fishkeeping that I've ever bought. Avoid.

A great read!
A great read as well as an educational book for breeders and hobbyists alike. It gives a realistic (if amusing!) account of the author's experiences both good and bad. Even though Martin has previously bred commercially the tips, tricks, trials and tribulations are very relevant.

Great Reference
an informative reference for the advanced marine aquariaist, although focus is put solely on the orchid dottyback this book would be a useful tool to anyone breeding just about any marine aquarium fish

Reports of an interesting breeding adventure
With "Breeding the orchid dottyback" Moe gives an insite in over a year of his attempt to breed the Orchid Dottyback as a hobby in his garage. You'll find out that Moe, although he has been a professional breeder, also has to learn a lot by trial and error. Might be entertaining to read if you're not really interested into breeding but is much more interessting when you trying to breed/plan on breeding yourself. For a breeder: at least study the appendixes.
