Taste Fine Mixed with Vanilla Pea Protein, IBS-C
I bought the Vanilla flavor Rice protein. Alone the taste is not very good. But I think that is true for most rice proteins. I mix it at a ratio of 30 to 70 or 40 to 60 of the rice protein to Vanilla Pea Protein by Naked Nutrition in some plant milk, filtered water and a little honey or maple syrup. Mix with an immersion blender and it taste great and blends well. I do this to try to get a complete protein with all the essential amino acids. I use it in other smoothies as well with frozen fruit, chia seeds, some honey and plant milk. Blends well and no over powering taste. I suffer from IBS-C and I can not drink whey. I have had not had any gut issues with The Nutribiotic Vanilla Rice Protein.

Vegan, fairly affordable, consistent, doesn't taste like compost = yay!
Giving this five stars ("I love it") feels like a bit of a stretch since it's a vanilla rice protein powder (meaning it tastes about as exciting as it sounds) but it does the job in our morning smoothies and is vegan so my expectations are met. My husband drinks his with vanilla almond milk in one of those shake containers with the wire blender ball but I'm not that hardcore so I doctor mine up by putting it in the actual blender with a frozen banana, peanut butter powder, etc and find it makes for a nice, frothy smoothie that isn't chalky or lumpy. Even though the price has risen considerably over the years, this is still a much better deal than what it goes for at your local big chain health food store. We've tried other vegan protein powders but they've all been either incredibly pricey, have a nasty stevia taste, or both so this is our old reliable regular. My only issues with this product have been with the shipping- once the lid loosened so the other items in the box were covered in powder and once the USPS couldn't comprehend my address so delivery was several days late- but generally it arrives quickly with a sealed lid and we're happy.

Recent batches have a rancid smell and taste. UPDATE: They have corrected this!
I have been using this for years in smoothies and I liked it for its mild taste that could blend in with anything you mix it with. Recently, I had to send two back because they had a rancid smell and taste. I usually go through a tub of these every three weeks, so I knew something was off just from the smell when opening it. I also tried it but it tasted really sour. I ordered another one immediately but it was the same story. I'm not sure if it was a bad batch but both had the same lot number: LT 35617-4 with EXP 1/21. Either that or the formula has changed in a bad way. I hope it is just a bad batch and would love to continue to buy this, but I can't right now. UPDATE: It seems they have corrected this and reverted their recipe/process so that there is no longer the rancid taste. The last 3 I have purchased have been back to normal. The ones I've received have a big sticker on the side that says EXP07/2021. Thank you!

Just what i needed
I purchased this because i just found out that I have an egg and yeast allergy. Not too sure what my eating choices are yet , I wanted to have something on hand for a quick breakfast or snack,so I didn't have to spend a lot of time looking at food labels or cooking something, but yet get an adequate amount of protein and nutrients. This protein powder has no yeast and is labelled vegan, so I don't have to worry about the ingredients. So anyway, this stuff is delicious! I have been making smoothies with the powder, some milk, banana and berries. I have used frozen fruit and it can be a little gritty, but I find that if you mix the powder with the milk first ( I use a hand-held blender) it is much less gritty, and if you use non frozen fruits it is pretty darn grit free. The taste is good also, just a mild creamy vanilla. I would recommend this powder!

THE BEST Rice protein! I've used for 20 yrs
I'm buying TWO more 3-lb containers again today! I have a sensitive digestion & many food allergies/sensitivities / Fodmap. Etcc. I started using this protein 20 yrs ago. It's my go to, since I'm allergic to Dairy Whey & avoid Soy & Pea. I've tried a few others, but this Nutribiotic always agrees with me. I buy the Chocolate & Vanilla. The Berry flavored one never tasted good to me. Im a Daily smoothie Girl and eat clean & exercise. It helps with my weight lifting. It's plenty of protein. My naturopathic checks my levels. Even my Creatine is always normal, so I don't supplement that. I get compliments on my fit body & muscles. Btw, when Im not making a smoothie, Ill make a Shake with Coconut water & SweetLeaf Stevia (which has electrolytes & high potassium). Im sure any protein tastes chalky in just water. Use Coconut water, especially if you exercise often. ;)

Poison!
Great alternative to the whey protein I always have. I love how there's no added anything. I am a little concerned about the heavy metal content though - I keep it under 3 servings a day (I need A LOT of protein to maintain muscle). Also, I'm warning you it gets everywhere. However, it's a small price to pay for pure. Edit: 3/2/16 I can't believe I originally gave this product a four star rating. A little concerned about the heavy metal content? I should have been VERY concerned. Over the past four months, my health rapidly deteriorated. I admit I already have mold toxicity, but I knew something specific had to be provoking my worsening symptoms. Here I was thinking this rice protein was one of the only proteins I could eat because it is easy to digest. I failed to realize, however, that heavy metals decrease thyroid function! There is also a theory that mold binds to metals, so this was a double whammy for me. My body had begun aging rapidly - crepe skin, hollowed eyes and sagging cheeks, increased body fat and loss of muscle mass. And that was just the outside. Inside my chronic fatigue skyrocketed, my sinuses started hurting more than ever, and my breathing was impaired during increased activity. And let's not forget what this does to your hormones. PMS is an understatement. My breasts were starting to hurt ALL month long. My estrodial and progesterone were abnormally high to boot. It wasn't until recently that I reread an article which officially tested Nutribiotic for its heavy metal content. I felt so foolish because I failed to realized I had to multiply this serving times two or three because that is the number of servings I had per day of it. And mind you, as a consumer, I shouldn't have to worry about this because it's not fast food or dessert! Since my discovery, I have completely eliminated this product from my diet. And with the help of calcium disodium EDTA and chlorella (heavy metal detoxifying agents), I'm feeling like a new person. Not everyone may be as sensitive to this protein as I am, but why would you want to endanger your body in the first place? Things may feel ok for now, but what about down the road? I'd been consuming rice protein for the past year and a half, and it took until now for crap to hit the fan. I look back, and to be honest, my thyroid function began slowing early last year. Coincidence? I think not.

Alone tastest terrible but in a smoothie it's great
I've now purchased this protein 43 times. I've been using it in my breakfast smoothie for a long while. If you were buying this just to put it in milk or whatever liquid and drink just that, I'd say hard pass. It's taste is bad and it's gritty. I use a fruit blend, plain greek yogurt, this protein, almond milk and some orgain super food powder. That mix at the right ratio in a blender works really well for me. Been doing this for years! If you're looking for a good taste out of the package or good dissolving look elsewhere.

I *strongly* prefer the plain flavor -- the vanilla is kinda nasty IMO
This is a pretty good product, but the vanilla flavor is really synthetic tasting in my opinion. Yes the powder is a bit gritty, but I don't mind that at all -- in fact I kind of like it. But I wish I had stuck with the unflavored version (which I've also reviewed and love!). So yeah, the vanilla is kind of nasty. I was putting a little vanilla extract in my smoothie base (which is delicious) but then decided to just try this. I won't buy this ever again, but I really like the plain and will keep using it in the future. If you like actual, real vanilla flavor, then steer clear of this product! (I use Penzey's vanilla extract, so I'm used to very high quality vanilla!). For what it's worth, I use homemade coconut milk drink as a smoothie base. Here's the recipe: 1 can coconut milk 2-3 cans worth of water (use the empty coconut milk can, 2 cans water if you like it a little thicker, 3 if not) 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (use less if you use regular salt!) 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (I recommend Penzey's!!!) blend with a hand blender in a container and you're ready to go! It's great as a smoothie base but is also delicious on cereal.

Excellent stuff
Well worth it over whey, and other powders. Really easy to digest, I don't find the taste the greatest but I don't mind it either. In fact I prefer it not tasting like candy because it means there's no artificial garbage in it. 100% natural stuff and it packs a punch. I've been working out hard and been relying on this stuff for the bulk of my protein. The results back it up.

Great product
Great product! I have been using NutriBiotic Rice protein powder for years. The price is fair for the quality of the product. The service and delivery from this company has been nothing but exceptional to date.

It smells very nice and vanilla-y
I am allergic to dairy product so got this. It smells very nice and vanilla-y, but tastes a little blend, and a little coarse like sand... Can't say I am much of a fan of it, but it is a protein. Mixed with pea protein and it is good to have all the amino acid (pea protein is equally gross btw. cant complain too much because I cannot take whey)

I have IBS and it work perfect for me
If you want healthy protein, this is the one for you, I have IBS and it work perfect for me. This is not candy full of sugar protein, so the taste is not great.
