I have a miniature-sized poodle. Which would be better, 6.5 inch or 7.5 inch?

I would probably opt for 6.5 on a smaller dog. I don't remember having a choice when ordering these but mine work great on the furnishings of my Norwich terrier. Been very happy with my purchase. A quality scissor. I especially like the reversibility of the blades. It's handy having one tool for both up and down curvature.

What is the round piece of metal with points on it in the box used for?
