An atlas with a difference.
I have read Tim Marshallโs excellent book โPrisoners of Geographyโ and thought that this atlas might be useful to my grandsons. However, used in conjunction with the book, I have found it a very useful aid to visualising the geography of the countries written about. The jolly, โchild friendlyโ format is most attractive and my grandsons have enjoyed dipping into it. I may well buy them a copy of their own. The simplification of the information in the book is very well done and can be appreciated by adults and older children alike. An atlas with a difference that offers help in understanding our complex world.

Very useful book
I bought this for my 10 year old son months ago but it really came into itโs own last night when I read to him the pages about Russia. It really helped him to understand more about the situation in Ukraine at the moment and possible reasons for it. I would highly recommend this book.

My 11 year old nephew is devouring it
This is exactly the book I wish I had when I was a kid. Excellent geographical knowledge but the addition of how those countries interact, which was missing from all the books when I was small. Gave it to my Nephew for his 11th Birthday and he is reading and discussing the issues raised. Exactly what I had hoped.

Incredible book - but the maps are not good enough!
This book is brilliant. I read the original version and bought this for my children. If you read this book and the Silk Roads you would gain a wonderful insight into the world. The text is fantastic and content very informative but my one complaint (and it's a major, especially given the title) is that the maps are just not good enough. They are vague, not detailed enough, not accurate enough (the line to the US airforce bases points, I think, to Staffordshire, and the 'hand written' type script is hard to read. Given that lots of names are unfamiliar to children I think it should be much more accurate. Nonetheless a great book despite this glaring fault.

To understand is to have compassion
Especially now everyone should read all of this author's books. War doesn't just happen, it has a long history and often rumbles away for years like a poisoned volcano. I frequently hear the author's words in my ears as we lurch from miserable crisis to war, to genocide in the world at t his time. It doesn't help the pain of living at a time where there is so much hatred, but it does help me understand.

Great gift
My 10 year old is really loving this book. Itโs helped him to understand why Russia, and other nations, fear attacks and use offensive tactics against other nations/groups.

Excellent book for 9 years and above
An excellent book for kids ( mine is 9 year old) as well as adults who want to have a comprehensive idea about why certain countries yield so much power over others.. why certain countries are richer than others and why some countries just cannot be friends ever. The maps make the subject less daunting and very child friendly. My daughter dotes upon this book and insists me to read to her a chapter every night. She perhaps would find it a bit intimidating to read the book by herself but likes me to interprete whatever is written.
