Started great, company can't be trusted
I've been waiting to give this company the benefit of the doubt but I've lost my trust in Automatic at this point. I've been using 2 of these for close to a year now, one in each car... the company still has yet to bring all of the advertised features to the Android app despite all of their promises... But honestly, the thing had been tracking my trips very well which is what I bought it for ... that is until just recently. You may note that they now have a Gold version of the adapter.... after the most recent app updates after the announcement of the Gold adapter the reliability of the device seems to have disintegrated. What's worse is there is now information in the FAQs that indicate these 2 adapters I purchased no more than a year ago are going to be obsoleted and will not see any additional features -- this means that I'll never see features that they advertised and with the reliability not there any longer I'm questioning the usefulness of the product moving forward which means I'm out $200 and may not have even got an entire year's worth of trip logs for my taxes. It's possible that they work through this reliability issue but I don't trust the company at all.... when you keep promising that you're adding features that are promised ON THE BOX your device came in that's one thing but when you all of a sudden abandon that and tell you that they've decided to stop production of your device and recommend you by their new one that is completely unacceptable.

Closing business May 28th 2020
Automatic is shutting down its enhanced diagnostics services for vehicles on May 28. The company cites the coronavirus pandemic driving down demand for auto sales and, thus, demand for its OBD-II plug-in device and its associated services. Customers may be eligible to return their adapters to their point of purchase for a rebate.

No loyalty to customers - money grab
Bought this unit in 2015 - was on waiting list and one of the first to get it. Enjoyed it for 4+ years. Last week they did a app upgrade and made it redundant and inactive. This is a money grab to get you to buy upgraded unit and now has a subscription fee! Buyer be ware no loyalty to customer base. No options no upgrade- if I’d known this I wouldn’t have wanted my money- super dissatisfied buyer be ware

Meh..
Not really as useful as I had hoped. I have heard a lot about how great this was to tie into a home automation system. Unfortunately the presence sensing is spotty sometimes it knows when I'm home sometimes it doesn't. What I thought was mostly marketed towards home automation is actually a device to increase your driving efficiency and logging miles. Thing is it's not really great for highway users out in the western US. It scores you based off of braking, throttle use, and speed above 70MPH. The problem is out here in the flat lands we have highways with a speed limit of 75MPH meaning even if you are driving efficiently and are going the speed limit it still gives you a negative mark on your score. And it seems the point is to get a better score and improve your fuel economy. Which isn't fun to do if you can't ever get a "perfect score" for going the speed limit.*ALSO BEWARE* If you have OnStar diagnostics and you receive emails from OnStar giving you detailed information about your vehicles maintenance. The Automatic adapter seems to break this functionality while it's plugged in. Nothing reports in the emails and OnStar can't read this info at least it did for my 2014 Silverado.

very poor customer support for a flawed item
First they don't disclose that you need a data plan for automatic to work. Then, if you have a problem it is not possible to contact anyone for a solution. You have to wait for someone to respond to a problem, and then forward you problem to someone else. Meanwhile you are left in the dark. Very POOR customer support. ok, finally got crash alert working, discovered in web search that you can send a email to [email protected]. a shame this is not on their tortuous web site. Then of course unable to add emergency numbers without the same circus. Also, if you add a landline for a contact, you must use the help support procedure. Again not published on their web site.

Feels unfinished - massive potential - poor company development
I purchased a handful of different obd devices to try out and in the end returned all of them. I will say - out of all of them Automatic was the *better of them, simply because it has trip storage (gen2) and the most reliable bluetooth connection. Android is notoriously finicky when it comes to bluetooth connectivity and Automatic had no issues syncing as well as triggering my phone to perform Tasker tasks based on bluetooth being in range. I will say that Automatic is missing out on MASSIVE potential for this product. I'm a data junkie and there are so many opportunities for deep data to use my commutes to make recommendations e.g. "We noticed you spend 20 minutes longer on your Monday commutes - try leaving 10 minutes earlier to avoid the traffic" but instead it just gives me weak graphs of how far I drove. On top of that they have promised integration with 3rd party apps for Android for YEARS now and only just now trickled out the first collaboration. Overall I feel like Automatic as a company is falling short of make this into the device it should be, which is a shame because I think they have the best device so far - but can't in all honesty recommend this product to any of my friends.

NO NOT BUY OUTSIDE US
Do NOT buy this if you are in the UK. Supplier advised I contact Automatic for support as the required app is not available in the UK. It cannot be used outside the US as a carrier is required and you can't even set the unit up without it (quote from the manufacturer)
