Too many issues
I own 2 earlier version – Rove 2K-4K. I love them, and they work great and are reliable. I have one for my home car and one for travel, especially with rental cars. I took it on a driving vacation and not only was I able to monitor in case of an accident, BUT, I now have some good images of the vacation drive.I purchased Stealth Version for 3 main reasons: 512GB card, TRUE 4K, and automatically remove distortion. I gave their other version 5 star, I give this one 1-2 STAR.1) POWER. This is a power hog. Requires 5V and a source that can deliver 0.5Amp(!). This means that your usual computer USB 3 port will probably not be able to drive it. The unit will turn on, load the card, then turn off – and keep cycling. Further, I have one of those hefty portable batteries (25000mah), which can power a small city. Even that couldn’t drive the unit. I found a USB wall plug that could actually drive it and even with that I get some ‘flicker’ in the screen. (Not in the video). They need to work on this!2) MENU ISSUES: I would have thought that they would simply transfer the menus from the ROVE 2K-4K across and update to the new configuration. But that’s not what they did. They released the product with marginal SW – as other responses indicate new versions are coming out “soon” (?when?)Here’s the missing issues:a. BIG STEALTH LOGO IN THE REPLAY. It is part of the Display Time/Coordinates on the video play back. But if you want the Time/Coordinates displayed, you will always get this LOGO! You would think that a simple search to find that ‘Stealth’ Logo lettering and DELETE THAT! Or replace with ‘blanks’ would be easy! Go figure.b. No license plate entry. I can live without that. But why was it dropped?c. CANNOT set TIMEZONE. All it says is you can set date/time manually. Prior version allowed setting time zone. So, does this mean the time is automatically adjusted when traveling to different time zones, or do I have to set this each time I travel? Instruction Manual is silent on this!d. NO SCREENSAVER. Prior version showed speed, etc. as a screensaver when the screen turned off. This is BLANK. Why?e. Improved Time Lapse. Prior version if you set to do Time Lapse (say 1 image per second), it worked great. But when you turned off, then back on, it would default into the normal mode. For long trips I wanted it to remain in the Time Lapse each time I started. However, the made it where it would default into the Time Lapse setting if you set it the last time. I liked this, but others may not.f. Photo: Can take a photo – manual says nothing except to press the power button to take a photo. HOWEVER, all the photo menus are completely missing. So, you get what they set as the default. This is critical.PROS: Good images, This unit improves the image quality over the prior units. The prior units are work-horses and work great, good reliability, even in high temperature environments (i. e Florida). I will not have this unit to test this because I am returning, but I assume that the reliability should be good as the prior. I like the Time Lapse default change.CONS: POWER!, POWER! – if the supply is slightly off, the unit will power cycle and/or the screen will flicker. MISSING menu items without any schedule when they will complete the updates. Heating as some have indicated and as I have noticed. Cannot plug into routine computers, it just power cycles, and because of this I cannot use like a memory card!RESPONSE: I got great response time from asking about my other units. For this one, I sent several communications via their website and via AMAZON – no response. Very disappointing.I am returning• because the unit works marginally, and cannot be used as a memory card with a computer because it requires too much power, more than what a typical USB3 port can provide.• if they make corrections to this power issue, then I will still be holding the out-of date unit.• The SW has much needed updating and was released TOO SOON.• And The lack of response on WHEN these issues will be corrected.

Excellent 8MP camera
The company walked a long way improving this camera. I'm a a user of this camera since its very first release and I have no doubt it's the best in its class. The camera records in 3840x2160 P30, which gives you 8.2 MPixel, not actually 4. This camera is superfast and I enjoy the way it works. The very first firmware versions were rather weak, but it was fully understandable. I myself replaced a few firmwares in this camera and the very last 2 versions are pretty impressive, so I decided to delete my original obsolete review and write a new one. The company walked a long way after the very first release, and last firmware, that I got for tests a few days ago, exceeded all my expectations. This is a huge step ahead and I won't wish to buy any other camesa since I tried this one. I have purchased it a few months ago and am still not disappointed, instead, it's getting better and better. The company customer service is easy to reach and I'm glad we don't need to write some guy to China, who never responses in plain English. Instead, this company is local and pretty fast with any answers. I've already recorded hundreds and hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of miles on this camera. What I can add, and I was very surprised, this camera video quality and sensitivity exceeds human eye. I often drive in rain, fog, at night, etc. The clouds, shown on the camera display, are much more detailed, than I can see with my own eyes and it's fantastic! I was very surprised, when noticed that first time, then spent a significant part of the trip, comparing what I see in front of me and what the camera sees. :) The original versions of the software had some issues, I've known about one GPS-related bug, which was promptly fixed and doesn't bother anymore. Another one problem with the very first version of firmware was limited functionality. Also the video artefacts were annoying, especially during the bright sunny day. It's all gone now and I like the video quality, far better than competitors, even at night. I'm thinking about getting another one for my wife and possibly one more for my son, we'll see how it works out in a few weeks. The only minor concern I had and still have was about the mount. Of course, it can be done better, with no teeth inside joints, letting us choose any angles with more flexibility. But we got what we got and I already used to use it after a few months of non-stop usage. Another suggestion, that I gave to the company, was to add some soft fabrics bag to keep the camera while it's removed from the vehicle. It's for camera safety and our convenience, cheap, but valuable addition.

Disappointment
The camera size and The 4k video quality is undeniably good, but all other functions are just annoying:1st: the location recommended in the instructions manual on the windshield upper middle slight to right, is not smart, it allows the camera to see all the reflection dusts and the haze, I can see my reflexion especially at night, I manage to put it all the way down, but the upside down mount doesn't help but I get much much better quality videos with less reflections, I see many other pricey dash cams installed at the lower part of the windsheild.2ns:the video files, varies in durations, I got tens of videos between 6 sec and 7 minutes videos in a single trip, I don't know why?3rd: when I download videos on the Rove stealth 4k iOS app, it downloads the videos only in the app, I only can watch it, no edit no share, I have to disconnect the camera and go inside and connect it to my computer to edit and share, no way to do it on the phone photo app like other dash cam.4th: the Mac gpsplayer is totally useless, I have the latest Mac with 64 gb ram, but when I play a video on gpsplayer it keep lagging, and the gps datas are totally false!! and yes I played the video both from the camera storage and after I copied it to my Mac, the same lagging and wrong gps data, and yes the camera gps is on!!!SO: the smart phone app need to be updated so video can be edit and shared right from the app, GPS player need to be fixed, and proper extra accessory to have the option to install the camera on the lower side of the windshield.

Great Camera
I like the high resolution. I have one of the earliest Stealth 4K that was made and there were a couple of issues. The serial number was not readable when I attempted to register the camera. Customer Service advised that the early batches had paint that did not set properly and wiped off. Using their advice, I used the serial number that was on the box it arrived in. I also had a problem with flickering and the camera shutting on and off repeatedly. Again I contacted Customer Service and they advised that the early versions had a known problem with the charger unit being too low in amperage. Customer Service promptly sent me a replacement charger and it is now working properly.I also own the previous version ROVE camera. I prefer that screen, which only displayed my speed while moving. I found that useful. The Stealth 4K shows you what is being recorded. I don't need that, as I can see what is being recorded - it is right in front of me! The information layered on the screen is far to small for me to read, especially while driving. I also prefer the software for watching the videos on my computer that was provided with the earlier ROVE.

Great Small Dash Cam
The camera is nice and small. A quick start guide would be helpful although you need to read the entire manual. The 1 minute files are about 200 MB so you need a lot of storage for continuous recording. I found that the files play fine on Windows Media Player (Intel i7) although the manual says not. I believe the power is 5v so use care in direct wiring - the manual does not mention this. Your window needs to be clean to avoid reflection of dirt, especially at night. Support is timely in their responses. I would definitely recommend this camera. Update: I have found that the cable connects well to the primary transformer USB but the secondary USB outlet does not work well. Mounting the camera low on the windshield minimizes reflections of interior and a black felt mat kills dashboard reflection (see picture). The video that posts to the Amazon site does not do the camera justice, so I took a screen snapshot of the video to show how good it looks. It would be nice if the camera had a quick release which would leave the suction mount in place so the camera could be removed for hiding when the vehicle will be unattended for extended periods. An inline switch would be nice for users like me since my outlet is always hot. I bought a splitter with three outlets that have a master on/off switch as well as individual switches on outlets. I swap car to car so I have not wired directly.

Awesome
Set it and forget it. I have had mine over a year. Records with sound. I bought mine for a vacation trip I wanted to relive the scenery afterwards. I mounted mine on the passenger side visor so it looks like I'm riding shotgun, very fun. It does amazingly well in all kinds of lighting. See pic of driving into direct sun, daylight, and dusk.Hopefully I'll never need it for an accident but it is comforting to know I'll have the proof of what really happened. This is a very high quality product and they have excellent support. Highly recommend this one and get the large memory card. Count about 250MB per minute of video. 12GB per hour. It varies with compression but that a good idea how much time you are getting. I took a weeklong roadtrip and ended up with little saved because my 128GB sd card only had the last 8-10 hours on it. You can download via wifi to a cell phone but it is very slow. You really have to insert the sd card into a computer to get gigabytes of movie files off it.

Easy to use AND backed by excellent customer service
After researching several dash cams I settled on the Rove stealth 4K. This is our first dash cam and will be used in our motorhome. At this point we’ve only tested the Stealth around our neighborhood and we are pleased with the operation.I’m also impressed with the customer service. Wanting to have the latest features, I followed Rove’s directions to update the firmware using the SD card. The camera did not respond as expected so I contacted customer service via email. Within 24 hours they had responded with a personalized response. Following those directions I still was unable to get the firmware to update. Rove was diligent in their follow up on the firmware update and even sent a file with a modified update. Wow!! That’s fast, personalized service! Finally we realized that the problem was how the files were copied to the SD card. The files unzipped into a folder on my computer and I moved the entire folder to the SD card. The solution was moving the individual files and not the folder. Problem solved. Perhaps the directions could be slightly modified to address the problem of moving files vs the folder. In the mean time, customer service is there to help.

Excellent 4K Dash Cam!
I looked extensively on Amazon for a dash cam and preferred 4K. I stumbled upon this Rove Stealth, which had very positive reviews. I’ve been using the camera for a few days now and I can’t express how great it is. I listed pros and cons below. Only thing preventing it from being 5 stars are the cons I listed, which are solvable with firmware and app updates. Overall a great camera and highly recommend!Pros: -Excellent video quality -Menu easy to use -Built in GPS -Excellent and responsive customer service -Thorough user manual -Decent mobile appCons: -Randomly boots up in EMR mode and don’t know why -Mobile app won’t transfer videos to phone that are longer than 17 seconds -Night video quality was okay-Rove Stealth branding watermark on videos and can not remove

Great product, SW needs work
It has all the elements to be a great product (amazing video quality best of any I tried, H265 a great addition reducing file sizes, GPS works better than similar devices) but think SW still needs some work. When I got it all started great, however a few days later noticed the battery would not hold charge and the unit would not even support parking mode after a full charge. Installed the September firmware update and that did not help. The last problem I had the device started to power on and off every 10 to 20 seconds for no apparent reason, tried different connections and cables and no difference. Unfortunately had to send it back. Will consider again once the product becomes more stable.Update 10-5: I got a new unit and it is working great, used the lighter adapter and works better than connecting it to a USB port. They need to bring the functionalities of the r2-4K and the ability to remove the 4K stealth watermark in the video. Have been hearing for a 1.5 month the update is coming soon (?). Please let users know when it is coming. Thanks

Customer Service is Awesome !!
I purchased the R2-4K, an earlier version dashcam a year or so ago and was VERY pleased with it. Up to that point, it was the best dashcam I'd ever owned. So when I saw their new Stealth 4K come out, I had to give it a try. This little camera is unbelievable ! The clarity is incredible, especially at night, where a lot of cams don't measure up. Menus are easy to navigate. Can't say enough about their Customer Service. I was having a power issue when I first got my Stealth 4K. I sent a text and was answered within an hour or less. Between several texts and a phone call, we determined the issue was a USB power cord. I was using an old cord, not the one that came with the camera. Replaced the cord with the one ROVE enclosed & it now works flawlessly. Thanks Andy for your quick responses and help ! I would highly recommend this dashcam to anyone looking for high quality at a very affordable price

Best dash cam yet
I drive a truck, and have had several dash cams now. Hands down, this on has been the best. From the moment you open the box, you know you have made a great purchase. Many little bells and whistles that just let you know you have made a great choice. Many install options and it was ready to go in a snap. I have been playing with some of the features and I have loved all I have gotten to.I don't ever write reviews, but I can tell you, if you spend what it takes to get this camera, you should not regret it.

After two years of owning it
Product worked great for about 10 months and then I had an issue with it occasionally restarting itself continuously. I contacted customer support about it for warranty and they said they were already aware of this issue and that it was caused from them sending the wrong adapter to power the unit. So they send me a new "correct" adapter and I used it for about a week without issue and then had the car in storage for about 6 months. Now I've recently began driving it again and the camera continuously restarts at all times. It's a great camera but for that price I'd suggest buying another brand that will last longer.

Stealth 4K desperately needs a CPL filter
Good:- great picture quality in daylight- very nice menu system- bright displayBad:- terrible glare/reflections on certain windshields/dashboardsNot tested:- wi-fi- computer software- night picture qualitySuggested changes:- this unit desperately needs CPL filter (removable)- based on my past experience I would prefer to have ionistor (supercapacitor), not batteryI had to mount CPL filter by myself using 3M double sided tape, very inconvenient, but solved terrible glare issues.

4K Dash-Cam-tastic
Purchased a Stealth 4K Pro for front facing and the R2-4K for back facing. Fantastic quality, features and options. Highly recommended. Clear, crisp picture quality is fantastic!Update: Our Unit has been having trouble recording sound/video with excessive lagging on video playback. Have gone through all the troubleshooting, re-purchase a second samsung memory card with no success, have re-set the unit a couple times without any success to resolve the problem. To clarify further, the Video Playback will NOT play on any workstation, laptop, on the phone app nor does it play if downloading the video to the phone, GPS Player or VLC Player. Video Playback seems to only work without lag/delay if viewed on the units itself.
