High quality production value
When I preordered this, I thought it would be a standard trade paperback size collection with hardcover binding. I did not realize that it would be a full-sized library edition. I actually prefer the high-quality durable paper and the larger size of the book! It's not something you'll take to read on a flight or anything, but for a quality home collection this is a great investment. If storage space is a concern, I advise going with the trade paperback editions instead. However, if you want a large, durable hardcover, this is well worth the money. As for the quality of the story, well, if you're looking at this you're probably already a Buffy fan. Suffice it to say, this is the official continuation of the Buffy series, just in a different medium. Whedon's plotting and writing remains intact, and he has been involved in the creative process and selection of all the other writers on the series. It definitely feels authentic as a continuation of the TV series, only without budget and filming scope restrictions. :) It's a bit jarring at first with the time jump betwen the end of Buffy Season 7 and the start of Season 8, but the interim storyline is filled in gradually much the way Whedon's crew did with the tv show when there were season jumps there as well.Very, very good, and I can't wait for the next hardcover to release!

Beautiful Book!
This has to be one of the most well-made books I've ever come across. It has a high-quality, sewn binding; a nice ribbon bookmark; illustrated boards; a beautiful dust jacket; and glossy, oversized pages that are nice and thick. The fact that they're selling this book for the same price as a normal black-and-white, text-only hardcover blows my mind. It's not even much more than what they charge for trade-size paperbacks these days. That's unreal. I've seen very expensive, limited edition books that aren't half as nice as this thing. If you're a fan of Buffy or comics or just books in general, you're going to love this collection. I plan on picking up the rest of the series as soon as possible.[Note: In the attached images, I had already wrapped the dust jacket in a protective mylar cover, which is why it's so reflective, and the photo with the Locke & Key comic is there just to show how much larger the collection is than a standard comic.]

Book's in fantastic condition
It's in great condition! The dust jack has very light signs of use on the very top of it as advertised. The pages look and feel brand new. Every aspect of the book is in fantastic condition.

Holy smokes, best compilation Ive ever seen in 33 years in comics
When people said the production quality was high, I expected a nice binding and the hardback part. Its the pages themselves - I wouldnt even call them paper! They are thick, very glossy (in a great way) and frankly each page looks more like a movie poster than a comic. These books are a work of art. The volumes themselves, in addition to being bound and covered in an outstanding manner, are simply bigger than a regular comic page - each page is an incredible joy to read. I also did not expect to have some bonus material provided, such as a section at the end featuring all the cover art of the original books (each HC volume covers 10 issues). I cant wait for 3 and 4! I was debating picking them up piecemeal since the HC 3 and HC 4 are a bit aways as i write this, and Season 9 is already underway, but theres no doubt now - I will wait for these collectible treasures, not spend cash on the regular issues.

Buffy makes a fantastic segue into graphic novel form!
I've watched all of the Buffy TV series and considered it a bit of a guilty pleasure. There were many amazing moments, but (as you'd expect of a show with 7 seasons at 20+ episodes per season) there's also a lot of fluff. Now that I've read these graphic novels, I think this is the PERFECT form for them. This volume feels to me like the distilled essence of the show - zippy dialogue, awesome fight scenes, emotional punch - without the bits that drag. Because when you make a graphic novel, you just don't have ROOM to put in the junk. I love the transition from the screen to the page. The plot picks up from Season 7, where Willow casts a spell that transforms all girls with Slayer potential into bona fide slayers. Buffy and the rest of the crew recruit and train these girls to fight monsters, but there emerges a mysterious masked villain named Twilight with intimate knowledge of Buffy who wants to destroy her more thoroughly than just killing her. (After all, she has returned from the dead a few times now.)The plot is definitely engaging. One of my favorite things about it is that the world has genuinely changed because of Willow's spell, and the plot embraces that. The characters have definitely evolved - for example, Xander, while retaining his familiar goofiness, is also becoming more comfortable with his authority and knowledge of the occult. Dawn is growing up (that will be funnier once you've read the book) and dealing with familiar challenges of adulthood, while Faith continues to struggle with her place in the world. Good stuff. As an aside, I have to say that the dialogue is often hysterically funny. Not in a way that distracts from the plot or lessens the emotional payoffs - quite the opposite. But, really, Whedon's dialogue shines in this format.I do have one quibble. For the most part, the artwork is excellent. I definitely did a double-take at the cover: wow, that looks EXACTLY like Buffy (and Willow, and Xander, and ...). But sometimes the likeness just isn't there - later in the book, Faith especially just doesn't look right. And there are also a few weird proportion issues, like a section where several heads seem too large for their bodies. This is the only reason that I'm calling 4 stars rather than 5, and really I wish I could mark it as 4.5 stars. Mostly, though, the art is really nice, and in many ways it's easier to render dramatic, crazy action scenes in graphic-novel form than on TV. (The special effects would just be too expensive.)Okay, so you're sold on Season 8. Should you buy this library edition or the skinny regular volumes? Well, there is no denying that the library edition is very high-quality: really thick pages, a sturdy cover, etc. More importantly, the pages are significantly larger, which lets the artwork really shine. It also includes a bunch of alternative covers, artist sketches, etc. at the back which I found very enjoyable. That said, the library can be a bit unwieldy, so the paperback volumes are definitely more convenient. In short, this edition has created a special place in my heart for Buffy, and I like the graphic novel version of Buffy even better than the TV incarnation. (Gasp!) If you're a Buffy fan, buy this now.

Very satisfied!
Item perfectly described in item description. Could use a little more protection or padding to prevent any moisture or dent. Mine came unharmed but just to be safe for the future. Very happy with what was delivered.

Must have for every Buffy fan!
I was a buffy fanatic as a child although only recently bought the full box set and it was so great to relive the buffy universe all over again. After it was over I was gutted... until I found these comics! I didn't even know they exsisted and I'm so pleased they do. I am a fan of graphic novels but was a little apprehensive as to if they could live up to the buffy series BUT I'm only a few parts in and can't put it down. As other reviews mention, the language and the story is just like the series. It starts off in a very different world than Series 7 finished in but once you get past that it's great to see all the characters again, I love it. I'm going to order s8 part 2 soon because I will be finishing this quickly no doubt. Also, it's a hugeeeeeee, thick book! Beautiful artwork and illustrator sketches and comments at the back! If you are a buffy fan these graphic novels are must haves!

DO IT! make the transition to the comics- - you won't regret it
It takes a little while to transition from the show format to the comics, but once you do-- you will be hooked. I got this volume and after that I began buying and reading every Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow, and Fray comic I could get my hands on. I didn't have any interest in comics before this-- now I am obsessed. the storyline is great! the presentation is even better! This library edition has the most beautiful prints! So wonderful! I highly recommend to any Buffy fan
