BIKEHAND Bike Bicycle Compatible with Shimano Bottom Bracket Removal Remover Tool

I decided to upgrade my crankset so I needed to upgrade my bottom bracket. I had a Shimano Square tapered bottom bracket so I purchased the BIKEHAND Bicycle Bottom Bracket Removal Tool. This tool is for removing & installing the sealed square tapered bottom brackets like Shimano’s Octalink ( 20 tooth cartridges which are approximately 31mm). The tool can be used w/a 24mm socket wrench (placed over the end of the tool if you do not have a 1/2 inch ratchet), 1/2 inch ratchet or breaker bar, or an adjustable spanner (crescent) wrench. I used a 1/2 inch breaker bar to remove my bottom bracket & the tool worked great. The tool is deep enough to fit over the square tapered spindle & seats evenly & securely within the teeth of the bottom bracket. The tool felt well made & I believe it will last for many years. It was immediatly clear that turning it with my 8 inch adjustable wrench wasn't going to work. After 18 years it was really stuck and the bike's on a stand with the wheels off so I couldn't stand it upright and use the ground for leverage nor did I want to break my stand putting those kinds of forces on it. Plus the tool kept slipping out. I didn't have any M8 bolts to lock it on so I ended up laying the bike on it's side, putting a 2 foot breaker bar in the square slot and pulling with my foot on the bottom of the downtube for leverage, which worked well. Having the bike on it's side with the bracket facing up helped keep it from slipping too since the tool was going straight down and I wasn't fighting gravity. I may only ever use this a few times and I'm glad I didn't spend twice as much on the park tool.

Worked perfectly. Cheaper than the Blue tool and Bike Hand's has the advantage of 1/2" drive ratchet capability. The cups on my 5 year old bike required a bit of torque to get them loose. The 3/8 drive on the Blue tool would require at least a breaker bar to get that torque out of it. Not a problem with my 1/2" ratchet on the Bike Hand socket. A little detail I noticed, and I can't compare this feature with the Blue tool version because I don't know exactly what the Blue tool unit looks like, is the texture designed into the teeth of the Bike Hand YC-26BB. This texture facilitates getting a good purchase (grip) on the cups' recesses to make slippage much less likely. The other surfaces of the CY-26BB are polished, allowing for easy cleaning. The through-hole for a ratchet's ball-bearing retention, mentioned in someone's review as not there, has been omitted. The socket now has retention grooves machined into the inside of the 1/2" drive receiver. This is an easier to use system for a ball-bearing retention ratchet. It's a sharp looking socket. For a tool I might use 6 times in my life, I couldn't see spending the dough on the Blue tool version when the Bike Hand socket is cheaper and so well constructed, as well as engineered for success. They put some thought into what would appear to be a simple device.

I buy bike tools to have handy when needed. I have yet to to use the shimano bottom bracket, but I can honestly say that it is a sturdy & solid tool. And was purchased at a great price.Necessary

No need to buy the one from park tool. This is a simple solid piece of steel, it won’t break. It fits square taper BBs perfectly and handles drops well. I like that I can easily use my breaker bar and torque wrench with it. Don’t think I will ever have to replace this unless it gets lost.

My Shimano bottom bracket attaches with the crankset using 8mm FINE threaded bolts... These are hard to find. Your local hardware store probably has 5/16th FINE threaded bolts. (NOT course threads) You can thread a bolt like this into the 8mm hole and use oversized nuts as spacers to HOLD THIS TOOL ON THE BRACKET AS YOU WRENCH ON IT. It probably won't come off without being bolted on. If the threads are stripped or the bolt won't start - you can use a hack saw to cut a verticle slot down the middle of a 5/16" bolt (FINE THREAD) and shave the end to a slight angle, and this will re-thread the hole as long as you start it in STRAIGHT. Remove the slotted bolt and try again with a new 5/16" bolt to hold this bracket tool in place. Good luck.

Perfect fit to install my new Shimano bottom bracket. My other cheap BB tool would not fit the part. Material seems to be of better quality and came in at a reasonable price point versus other mainstream brands. Should last my lifetime as a casual DIY'r. I would recommend. I had to buy multiple new tools in order to remove a stuck never maintained BB.

I just used this to remove my bottom bracket. It held up better than expected but my bottom bracket wasn't on crazy tight. It worked well with a ratchet but it moved around a bit so I had to be very careful to keep it straight. I checked the teeth on it after using it and all of them are still perfect. I'm happy with this tool and it was half the price than the Park Tool bottom bracket remover. I used this on my Rad Rover electric bike to replace a magnet disc and PAS sensor, I don't really see myself having to use this tool that much unless I need to replace those parts again and for some maintenance from time to time. I would recommend this tool.
