Digital Design Essentials: 100 ways to design better desktop, web, and mobile interfaces

Completely disappointed by the content, I was expecting valuable in depth insight on designing for web, desktop, and mobile apps. Basically, it is a bunch of outdated screenshots with nothing but very basic details.

For those who are into UI designing or interested into getting into Web design, this is the book for you! It's easy to understand without getting lost or confused. They also have examples for you to follow or reference to which is a definite plus! I have friends who are into Web design so I'll be passing this along to them. If you are trying to learn something new about Web design, this is a good place to start. I have been wanting to learn more about it lately. One example in the book that I did like and learned from would have to be when the author discussed Wordpress and the different designs you could use for them. I've always wanted to learn to use it because of this book now I do.Even if you are trying to learn the basics of blogging design, begin your own online business, or combining different designs to enhance your website-Check this book out! It's a great tool, you learn a lot, and it's perfect for using as a guide for your next project.

If you are a novice web site designer this book may not be for you, but you will use it later as a good reference book to kick off some thinking on better design of web pages. This book along with Homepage Usability by Jakob Nielsen and Marie Tahir point you in the right direction when working on the design/layout of a web site. If you are looking at page layout for smartphone platforms, there are some good books, such as Mobile Design Pattern Gallery by Theresa Neil. that go further than this book on page layout for mobile devices.

In the process of learning more about UI design, I've been making very selective purchases of books that would help me along in the process. This book definitely is worth its weight (it's a pretty hefty volume, being hardbound). It clearly outlines different scenarios and offers best practice recommendations without the waffling you see in other competing volumes. Concise and easy to follow, it follows the principle of effective UI design itself to a tee.

For a design book, this book has HORRIBLE visuals. Absolutely no pride in the presentation of ideas and concepts - the cover is nice and attractive but the content inside lacks substance.Disappointed to say the least.

As design resources go, I had hoped this would provide best practices and effective strategies. Basically it's just a picture book with samples of various designs. Nothing Earth shattering.

This is too too basic. Not enough information for any topic.

Eh, this one isn't very good. The content is extremely basic and not very engaging, and the examples are mediocre. I'd recommend giving this one a pass.
