Funk Guitar Mastery: The Complete Guide to Playing Funk Rhythm Guitar

I have been looking for a source of information that would help me improve my playing ability in funk and R&B music. I wanted to improve my rhythm playing and articulate fills within this style of music. Funk Guitar Mastery is the perfect source. It breaks down every aspect of the style and highlights the fundamentals required to authentically play in the funk style. The examples are thorough and expertly arranged. The backing tracks excellent for helping to re-enforce the technique being examined. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting improve their guitar playing in the funk genre.

I was skeptical to learn from a book because I was concerned it would make my playin too corny. However, the exercises are very help to improve technique, even if the backing tracks are pretty cheesy, and my playing improved appreciably. It's also easier to understand the written exercises than other guitar books I've looked at, and if there's any doubt what it's supposed to sound like you can play the recorded examples. Taking off star because a few of the example tracks were missing for a difficult section I was keen work on. After many emails with Fundamental Changes, they were still unable to supply the tracks and I eventually had to give up on it.

I am a piano teacher who picked up the guitar a few years ago. I never quite spent the necessary time on the fundamentals, so I decided to take a step back and get a few music books. This is a great book for learning the fundamentals and the more advanced parts of guitar playing. I really appreciate that it uses a metronome, it is really helpful/needed to use a metronome for this style of playing. This book is very well written and does not require a teacher to help explain the content. You can pick up a lot of great tips for playing and improving. The price is totally reasonable, and the recorded exercises are super helpful.

This is the 6th book I've purchased by Joseph Alexander and it didn't disappoint. I've never before been able to find a great funk guitar theory book. Since the Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite band, I learned the songs but never had a real good understanding of the theory behind the Funk guitar fretboard until now. Thank you!

Only through the first few chapters and can already tell that the book is well written. Start with simple rhythms and develops improved timing. Looking forward to following through to completion! Audio tracks available for download. Will look into other titles by the author.

At last a comprehensive set of books dedicated to a variety of styles at a friendly price with all the material to progress at your own pace and level and for the kindle readers all the music files are available on Joseph Alexander's site

Awesome book! All of Mr. Alexander's books start you off really easy then bring you up to speed until you reach complete mastery. Highly recommended!

SUPERBI have bought a number of Mr Alexander's books and rate them all very highly.This one takes the same approach (for a new topic) as the others; plenty of explanation, loads of audio examples, enough theory to allow you to understand the concepts without getting bogged down and a workmanlike approach & pace. If you are investing in one to one lessons with your own teacher, this book will provide a good framework to structure you're learning around, but if you are tackling it alone there is no danger of getting lost as everything is clearly developed in manageable & logical steps.It's the perfect time to brush up or develop funk guitar skills due to both recent musical trends but also to properly get the techniques to play more rock based stuff such as the Chili Peppers and Joe Walsh.I would give this book and the others by this author ten out of ten, but sadly the Amazon scores only go up to five!Just a note on the pdf situation, EU law now dictates that the VAT rate charged on e-books is different from that on hard copies. This makes the VAT accounting for small publishers extremely difficult and leaves them open to crippling fines if they fail to follow the (very complex) legislation to the letter. This means that authors like this are unable (not unwilling) to provide pdf's at this time.

Another excellent guide from Joseph Alexander. I have built up a number of his various books purchased over a long period of time.They are immensely useful and provide a clear, structured and user friendly guide where guitar technique, knowledge and skills will quickly improve with some focused and dedicated work.The separate accompanying music files are also very good - easy to downloand and add greatly supporting the text information.I always buy the books so that the music exercises and text are all in one handy place which seems the most logical format to me and avoids the separate Kindle and separate PDF docs problems other buyers have encountered.In summary, if you want to improve any aspect of your musicianship, one of Joseph Alexander's books is an ideal place to start.Funk Guitar Mastery, like all his others, is similarly excellent.

My first book by this author and as you can guess it wont be my last,firstly great delivery by amazon again,i have been looking for a good book on funk playing and after reading a lot of reviews i decided to get this,im not disappointed,all that i need is covered in this book and clearly laid out,the audio files on his website are easily downloaded and unzipped,this book will keep me busy for a while,

Another great book by Joseph Alexander. Breaks down the concepts needed to become a great funk guitar player. Many of these types of books to don't go as direct as this to target the rhythms, timing and such to improve your playing but this does just that.

Excellent guide to understanding funk rhythm playing with an easy to use set of practice tracks.Recommended
