Lace up the shoes and put them on first, you wear your chosen footwear with the laces cinched for a half hour or so, to be sure you've got the right tension and that you've left enough extra length in the shoe laces to don and doff the shoes comfortably, and then cut and put the end clips on. Remember that once you cut the laces, you can't make them any longer!

tips for use with kids
As a second time user of lock laces I did some things differently the second time around and thought I'd share what works best for my kids. The first time around I put the laces in my son's shoes, on my son and tightened the shoes up and cut the laces way too short, thus not giving him enough lace length to open up the shoes to get them on/off. Because of my rookie mistake I always had to help him jam his foot into his nikes. Mom fail. What works best for us:1. put the laces in the shoes and the shoes on your kid's feet2. tighten the laces up like they would wear them and put the toggle up by the top of the tongue3. cut the extra laces as LONG as you can. This will allow your kid to really open up the shoes to get them on and off.4. take the shoes off your child, heat seal the ends of the laces, and attach the clip that goes at the end of the laces.TIP: make sure when you attach the clip at the end of the laces you insert the laces through where the clip bends! This is shown in the product photos but isn't super clear on the packaging.Leaving the laces a little longer makes it much easier for my son to get his shoes on and off! The laces themselves are durable and very easy for my 6 year old to adjust the tightness... plus he says they make him run super fast!

Also great for pants :)
I got them to make my sons pants tighter around the waist and it works just great. The pants had already loop wholes with draw strings but I wanted something elastic. These work perfect!

Lock Laces are amazing, and their company actually cares!!
Lock Laces make my life as an amputee so much easir. It's a drag alone to have to constantly tie your shoes that are on your actual feet, but even more so tieing your shoes when it's on a prosthetic leg. Thanks to these laces I never have to tie my shoes again. I just follow the instructions on installing them to my shoes, and done, that easy. I am now free and don't need to worry about finding a place to sit down to tie my shoes. Lock laces have made my life as a new amputte a lot more comfortable. Not only do they have an outstanding quality product, but they actually care about their costumers. I had an error in my order, I sent them an email, and they shipped me out a new set, I even recaievd a little post card that apologized. Companys need to learn from these guys they are awsome!P.S if you're in need of getting these laces out there for the disabled crowd, I'm your guy. Thanks a ton lock laces!

Pro tip: Save money; Reuse by not cutting or clamping the ends!
TL;DR: just thread the extra laces down between the tongue and laces, bring them back up the other side if necessary. [See picture]I'm frugal, and I had an incident where I put lock laces on a pair of shoes too quick, had to return for a different model with a roomier toe box and I went through the painful process of unclamping and re lacing the lock laces without the plastic ends. Then those shoes had a defective tread so I went through the whole process again a month later! After 400 miles in 4 months it was time I upgraded shoes and with it new lock laces. I thought to myself why even bother cutting them, just thread the extra laces down between the tongue and laces, bring them back up the other side if necessary. [See picture]The more pairs of shoes you go through each year the more valuable this will be as you don't want to be buying $8 laces every pair of shoes.Remember to save your old laces somewhere so you can return them to your shoes when they are retired and they become your lawn mowing shoes or tough mudder tributes.

Great Product with Unexpected Benefits
In 10 years, this is only my second review. These have blown me away to the point that I had to share an unexpected benefit. After getting a new pair of boots, I was having issues with the ease of getting my feet in/out without drastically adjusting the entire boot's lace tension each time. The Lock Laces looked like they could save me some time, if not saving time to adjust the tension, at least saving time on tying. Well the results are better than I imagined. I can easily squeeze my feet in/out when needed, and I never have to adjust the tension. The Lock Laces are stretchy enough to both hold my feet snugly, AND have enough stretch to allow my feet out when I try to get them off. Another added benefit, is that they make walking and simply wearing my boots more comfortable. The original laces had no stretch at all, and gave the entire boot a rigid feel when tightened. The Lock Laces make the entire boot feel more comfortable, with good support all round, without the rigidity and pressure points. Length wise, the standard 48" Lock Laces can replace much longer originals without a problem - mine were 59". See attached photo for Before & After.

Great... for a few days.
At first they were awesome. Held tight and made putting my shoes on take as much time as putting on slippers. Sadly though this is my second set and the same thing keeps happening. The elastic just gives out and snaps. I don't do anything excessive at all. Just an average 8 hour day customer service job.

The end fell off after one wear
As a mother to three children with autism who have fine motor deficits, I was excited to try out these laces. My sons know how to tie their shoes, but they lack the dexterity to be able to tighten the bow so that the laces remained tied. We put these laces on yesterday. We watched the video and followed the directions. My son just brought me the end piece that came off his shoe the second time he put them on his feet. I wish that I could just purchase this replacement piece or that more than two (one for each show) were included with the laces. I don't want to have to buy the laces again just for this end piece. For us, it's a fail. If anyone knows how to open this piece to try to put it back on the lace, please share.
