(Guitar Educational). Every essential riff from every song written and recorded by Metallica from Ride the Lightning , Kill 'em All , Master of Puppets , ...And Justice for All , and Metallica . Includes notes and commentary for each plus tablature. Review: Its riffs folks - As stated this is not complete songs. These are collections of riffs from the corresponding cherry lane metallica full album books. pretty much direct excerpts from these full album books complete with printing errors like the master of puppets pre-chorus is missing fret numbers in the same places in both books(doesn't effect readability or playability since its identical to the bar properly notated before it ). They are not full songs just selected parts. The only new or insightful difference I have found is that The Thing That Should Not Be is changed in the riff by riff book to the tuning Metallica used on the album and plays it live (down a full step) however the tuning in the 6 years older cherry lane MOP full album book (drop d) is easier to play cleanly but both sound just fine. The Master of puppets intro is still in the wrong position in this book (1994) and the cherry lane album book (1988), it's not the way they play it (see the Kirk hammet lesson on youtube) but again both sound just fine. I found the interlude for Battery easier to read and figure out when it was isolated in the riff by riff book but the tabs are the same. So HERE'S THE POINT if you have the cherry lane Metallica full album book then you won't get much new in this book on those songs as it is a cut and paste from the older full album books to this riff by riff book. It does help me isolate and practice certain parts without some of poorly labeled rhythm figures and hard to follow repeat bars and other pitfalls (like citing rhythm figures that were never defined )of the cherry lane full album books. This also shares some insight as riff descriptions sometimes mention some of the theory the riff is based on such as what scale or mode it's based on ect... sort of a color commentary on the riff before it is presented. Please see pics for the general layout and presentation of the "riffs" by song you can expect from this title. Review: Great for keeping up motivation - This book is awesome! It's great for a beginner like me to break up the monotony of teach yourself guitar books/DVDs by learning a few of my favorite Metallica riffs. Some are more difficult than others, but there's something in here for everyone. So far, everything I've learned has been dead on accurate and most importantly fun. There is also some early Metallica history and added commentary/explanations which are cool. Keep in mind that these are just the major riffs, not the entire songs. If you're a more advanced player, cherry lane also offers full album tab books that are great. For a beginner or intermediate player, this is perfect to have some fun and jam with.

Love Metallica
This is a good collection, really intense both rhythm and lead... now if I can find someone to teach me how to play this, not just the guitar I only know basics, I'm not an Intermediate or Advanced guitarist yet.

Not whole songs
Fun riff book. Iโve used it a couple time already. Good for warm ups or just wanting to play some little riffs.

Good to have to give you a general knowledge of ...
Good to have to give you a general knowledge of most songs, but it only gives you the main riff of each song. Not the intro or full songs

Breaks it down well
This book breaks down the intricate, complicated arrangements of Metallica into manageable chunks that are a bit easier to get a handle on. Even so, it's not for novices or those who are just starting out on guitar. Get a good grasp of the basics before you try to tackle the monster that is Metallica!
