great product and price

Nice enclosure. Goes well with the mushkin 120GB ssd i purchased also. The enclosure with the 120gb ssd connected to a usb 3.0 port was getting speeds with crystaldiskmark 210MBps read and 205MBps write. Which is more that enough for my uses. Also the enclosure uses little metal springy clips instead of srews, but have not had any rattling of the drive inside. The attached pic show somewhat of the size the unit is

Comparing the Mushkin, Sabrent, and ZTC

Comparing three products, this one, the Mushkin Atlas http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQV1VFA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , and the Sabrent, http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Enclosure-Adapter-Support-EC-UKMS/dp/B00LRZPNHMI have posted this same review on each of these product's page.I needed two of these enclosures, so I selected these three, hoping two would be good enough to keep, and maybe keep the third for a spare. This doesn't compare the throughput, just the physical differences. The Mushkin and Sabrent come with a thick (by comparison) aluminum surround, into which the IO board slides. The mSATA drive snaps onto these boards. The enclosure is closed by attaching end pieces, each of which takes two small machine screws. Overall, the Sabrent is easier to open and close, due to the (plastic) end pieces being thicker - you can grasp the end and pull the board/drive out easily. The Mushkin has thin, flush metal pieces, which are difficult to pull off the end - it's just hard to get a grip on it. I used a paperclip to pry it off. Otherwise it operates pretty much identically to the Sabrent. The obvious upside to the flush ends is that the Mushkin is slightly shorter than the Sabrent. The Mushkin uses a foam piece on one end to keep the board from rattling. The Sabrent lacked this, so I added one. Overall, both feel real solid and safe for keeping the mSATA drive from harm. The ZTC is different in several ways. First, the bottom piece, which houses the IO board, and onto which the mSATA board is attached by the enclosed sheet metal - type screws, is plastic. The other piece is brushed aluminum, which feels thinner by comparison to the other products. The ZTC opens by prying it open, and it snaps shut. You can see the place where you can pry it open, and you can also see the dimples on each side which secures the two main pieces. This cheapens the look, in my opinion. Although the inserted mSATA board is solidly secured by screws to the bottom piece (no rattling,) I think it is a better design to mount any circuit board independent from the critical structural exterior, to minimize any stress from bending, etc.Under typical use, it will probably be fine though. The Mushkin and Sabrent mount the USB port in the middle of the end piece, whereas the ZTC mounts it such that the attached cable sits flat with the bottom piece, preventing any stress from the cable. The Mushkin and ZTC come with short, thin (by typical USB 3.0 standards) cables. The photo shows this. Please see the photos for visual details. I wish Amazon posted these in the original size, as the small size doesn't show the details very well, sorry. You can see the size comparison. They are each real close in overall dimensions, with the Sabrent being slightly longer. The Sabrent and ZTC have a brushed finish. The Mushkin has a kind of sand blasted finish, which doesn''t show finger prints, if that is important.Overall, if you plan to change mSATA drives occasionally, the Sabrent works best, as is is easiest to open, and machine screws take repetitive use better than the sheet metal screws of the ZTC. Otherwise I like the Mushkin. The ZTC is lighter weight and the cable fits flush with the bottom piece.

Good idea, but it didn't seem to work properly

Good idea, but it didn't seem to work properly. It kept disconnecting as though it were an intermittent cable or something, but I replaced it with the Sabrent mSATA enclosure and it worked fine with the same cable, so it seems I got a defective one. I'll stick with the Sabrent since I know it works properly.

Ok at best.

It works, sort of. There is definitely a loose connection either with the cable or internally where the drive plugs in to the case. When I first plugged it in, the computer recognized my drive and everything seemed to be going smooth. A few seconds later it started to disconnect/reconnect endlessly. This seemed to be a common complaint on newegg and other sites as well. I replaced the cable with a spare USB 3.0 I have which seemed to stabilize the connection. However, if I bump my desk, type too hard, sneeze, or exhale a small gust of air on the case it disconnects. A work around was to put a cloth under it to dampen the vibration. Now I can access files or play movies from my drive without it stopping less than a minutes in. This has been the third brand I've used and they all seem to have some problem or another. My ZTC case driver failed after using it twice and thus the device stopped being recognized. I don't use this hard drive all the time, just on the rare occasion I want to watch a movie or back up files so it's not worth returning to try for yet again another brand.

Needs cushioning, inconsistent conection,

Feels sturdy but I don't like the Msata chip sounds like it was loose inside.Update. The connection to the USB board is no longer working. This device had random connectivity problems. I always had to be very careful when handling the cable or its conection to the PC would cease. But now it doesn't connect at all despite hearing the UPNP sound and the led turning on, but the SSD would not be reported at all. Don't buy.

Excellant mSATA Enclosure

This was the second enclosure of this type I've purchased. The first was the MyDigitalSSD Bullet Proof enclosure. This killed my first hard drive. So, I tossed it because it wasn't worth the money in getting a replacement. I then purchased the Mushkin SSD enclosure. It worked great. I have two mSATA drives and both work without any problems. So, I bought a second. Just a heads up for those that have never dealt with an enclosure of this type, the enclosure will get hot . This is due to the fact the drive heats up as it is being used and there isn't any vents or way that moves air to cool it. This should be no big deal as it is considered the same as a thumb drive and should be in constant use. If you are running music, video or some software and it's constant, then the continuous heat could and will damage the drive over time.

Excellent product

Small, cute, efficient. I recall the old days when I used tape drives for back up. Lol. This is perfect for carrying in the pocket and with a large, say 1 Tb mSata in it, you can carry everything in your pocket.

This product provides inconsistent connection to my computer. It keeps connecting and disconnecting my mSata drive. I think part of the problem is that I am using a 256G Crucial M550 that has a 5V, 1.7A rating while many other mSata hard drives are 3.3V, ~1.5A. The USB port on my computers (tried macbook pro, surface pro 4, desktop pcs) simply couldn't supply that amount of power (note: USB 3.0 ports supply 5V, 0.9A max).

Soluzione eccellente
