Works for awhile
We bought this heat gun because we thought the company had a good reputation for quality and their products lasted a long time. Not true. Our over priced Steinel 2310 has been lightly used and still looks new but the electronic controls now only work for a few seconds and will not control the heat on the gun. We contacted Steinel and they said the gun was out of production (still sold on Amazon) and they could not and would not fix it. They recommended finding a local electronics shop that might be able to fix it. Good luck with that. In short, we replaced this expensive piece of junk with a $30 heat gun that works.

This is the Ultimate Heat Gun
This heat gun is fabulous! The digital readout enables quick setting of the target temperature. The air speed is adjustable in small steps from a gentle to a stiff breeze. A program is selectable with the right P button and can be replaced with your custom settings by holding down the left Arrow key. I did this to set Program 1 to my favorite heat shrink temperature of 260F (about 125C). Now I am able to shrink my tubing in tight quarters using the smallest deflection head in the kit without damaging surrounding components. This heat gun is better than my wildest dreams. A true joy to operate.

Steinel heat gun, very accurate
I bought a Dewalt at first and it did not perform as well as I wanted it to so I bought the Steinel. The Steinel unit is a real beauty and right out of the box it worked better than the dewalt. I am using this heat gun to shrink the fabric covering on an airplane and the temperature has to be precise, The dewalt did not provide this and the Steinel does.

I have used steinel for 17 years. The 3002 ...
I have used steinel for 17 years. The 3002 lcd has stood up to my abuse and has alway been reliable. I even ran over one once and it still worked so I sent it in and had it rebuilt. The HG 2310 I bought worked for one week then would not go above 210 deg. I returned it and bought another. Same thing so I contacted Steinel service. They informed my that any power discrependcy will shut it down, it needs a dedicated power source, no extention cord. We are a field working company. We work in all kinds of conditionsand locations. This glichy little pain will not work for us.I gave it 2 stars because plugged in to our dedicated wall outlet in the shop it works.

Steinel HG 2310
I have been a steinel fan for many years, and have purchased 3 of their old top of the line steinel hg 3002 lcd models before this one. They eventually break, but have lasted me 2-3 years each of solid everyday all day use. So, when I decided to purchase another one for my buddy, I found that they had discontinued the tried and true hg 3002 lcd model that I have come to love. Instead of searching around and paying way too much for the same discontinued model, I decided to go with this new replacement for my old model heat gun. The price was a bit more than the $200 or so I paid for the hg 3002's, but I figured with a few enhancements to the old model the money wasn't an issue. So it has been about 4-5 months since i purchased this gun, and while my buddy uses it probably everyday(and I with him many times), it has developed some strange humming noises(beyond what it normally makes)almost as if some internal component is not mounted correctly and is subsequently vibrating against the case during use. He is very meticulous with his electronics so I do not believe he abused it. The gun still works fine, but the noises are a little worrisome as none of my old models made any similar noises, and hopefully this isnt an indication of the impending demise of this heat gun. I will update this review if the gun breaks altogether. On a side note, there are a few changes to this model i did not like in comparison to the old hg 3002 lcd models.First off, Steinel has added a pre set functionality, which makes it fairly easy after some fiddling to program in a number of temperatures and fan speeds that are accessible with the push of the P button on the right side of the back of the gun. This in itself is not a bad thing, and could even come in handy for some users, (although I always used one fixed temperature and fan speed) - (380 degrees F) (lowest fan speed)The one thing I do not like about this feature, and the gun in general, is when turned on, it no longer displays the real time temperature of the gun while it heats up, as the steinel hg 3002's did. They would count up to the proper temperature as you watched, and any changes in airflow and subsequent changes in temperature would be reflected on the real time LCD display. Not so with this gun, it will only display the temperature it is set at. And your only indication that it is at the correct temperature is two small arrows on the sides of the temp. Also, this gun blows cold air for about 2-3 seconds before the heating element seems to kick in and the gun starts blowing hot air. Not sure why they did this, perhaps it is better for the heating element, i cannot say for sure. A very minor inconvenience either way.Overall I have always been a fan of Steinel products as they make superior craftsman quality tools. This model was slightly disappointing however after the near perfection in the hg 3002 lcd models.Overall I am rating this product at 3 stars for the moment, If it continues to function and just produces the noise or the noise goes away altogether, then I will update this review in the future with a more favorable rating.Hope this helps any prospective buyers.

Right Tool for the Job
I bought this gun strictly to replace a couple of broken iPad screens, one for my daughter, the other for a friend. It handled both jobs flawlessly. I then decided to find things that it could do to further justify the purpose, so now i use it for shrink wrap and have used it for specific soldering work as well. Next project is to strip some old paint and caulking. I'm able to dial in the temperature in single degree increments, there are several fan settings, and several pre programmed settings. The instructions are efficient and pragmatic, not a lot of fluff to be found. I still haven't bothered to reprogram any of the preprogrammed settings, but i don't really use the gun often enough to have to.

Don't Vape Me Bro
I uh use this frequently for contractual work that requires me to heat things... It always heats up quickly and it's awesome. Just used it for its intended purpose right before this review
