I just recently discovered mauby and my initial introduction to mauby was through an already prepared mauby syrup which you dilute with some carbonated water. The syrup was okay tasting but it had added caramel coloring, "essences" and preservatives which I try to stay away from plus the caramel reminded me of colas which I'm not a fan of. Also there was a lingering scent after taking a swallow. I think it had to do with the "essences". I bought the already prepared syrup on Amazon and the ingredients weren't listed.So since I thought I knew what to expect I decided my best option was to make it myself. I bought Angel Brand Mauby Bark and boiled it with water and sugar until it was a thick syrup. I keep the syrup in my fridge and mix about 4 tablespoons to a cup of carbonated water and it is way better than then the already prepared syrup I previously purchased. Nothing to remind me of colas, no odd after scent. It's sweet, and woody and tastes a bit like bitter ice tea.Also bonus is the already prepared syrup I found previously was pretty pricey for what it was. This is far more reasonable in price.

I drank a tea from about 5g of the bark. The effect on the crown chakra is very nice. It is really perfect for meditation. Surprised I never heard of this herb. Some people say it is an aphrodisiac but definitely not for me. Taste is really horribly bitter so may want to add raw milk and maple syrup or raw honey.

Puerto Rican drink

I use the bark to add a little bitterness to my homemade root and birch beers. I ferment the drinks with a ginger bug to make my own probiotic drinks. I also use it with burdock root and par d' arco bark for winter immunity boosters.

It was missing some key ingredients for a mauby drink

Flavor is good. Glad Amazon is carrying. Will buy more in summer
