Product Description Action starring Kurt Russell. It's New Year's Eve and festivities have begun aboard the luxury cruise ship Poseidon, at sea in the North Atlantic. One of the finest vessels of its kind, Poseidon stands more than 20 stories tall, boasts 800 staterooms and 13 passenger decks. Tonight, many of the ship's guests have gathered to greet the New Year in style in the magnificent main ballroom. However a Rogue Wave, a monstrous wall of water over one hundred feet high, is bearing down on them with tremendous speed. The wave strikes with colossal force, pitching the ship heavily to port before rolling it completely upside down; supports collapse, broken gas lines ignite flash fires and lights fail, leaving vast sections of the ship in darkness and chaos. In its aftermath a few hundred survivors are left to huddle in the still-intact main ballroom, now resting below the waterline. One man, professional gambler Dylan Johns (Josh Lucas), prefers to test the odds alone. Ignoring orders, he prepares to exit the Ballroom and find his own way to safety, but is collared by nine-year-old Conor (Jimmy Bennett), who asks that Dylan take him and his mother Maggie (Jacinda Barrett) along. Fast behind them is Robert Ramsey (Kurt Russell), anxious to search for his daughter Jennifer (Emmy Rossum) and her fiance Christian (Mike Vogel).

On its own good, in comparison to the original not great
There are 2 ways to review this film I think1) watch it before you see the '72 original, in which case it's a solid disaster/adventure film2) watch it it after the '72 original, in which case it's a slightly limp, pointless remake which will never top the original.

An average disaster film which does not justify it being a remade of the iconic classic
First thing first. The CGI has not aged well on this movie and, in some places, looks exceptionally awful. The practical effects though are competently done. That said this is an OK film in it's own right, but no where near as good as the original film. I watched this film on PRIME to alleviate my boredom and it did, so it was not a waste of time, I don't understand why they needed to remake it though. At least the TV movie version of The Poseidon Adventure, which oddly was released near the time this movie was made, changed the story enough that it had some merit to being made. This movie was practically a copy of the original films plot with several plot lines removed, characters removed and more action scenes shoved in. An average film on all accounts.

You like natural disasters and people fighting for their lives? This is the movie for you!!
I remember seeing the original movie (1972) as a kid and being fascinated by it. This re-make is a good modern adaptation. The actors are great, the dialogue and pre-disaster scenes are good but don't get in the way of the action, which, let's face it, is what people want to see in this movie. Its pacing is so fast and smooth you almost feel sad when it's over as it barely seems than an hour and half has gone by.The CGI for the most part holds up pretty well. There are a few explosions that feel like you are playing a computer game from the 90s, but it never gets too distracting and for the most part is quite impressive and manages to get its message across in terms of imaginary.

Lifejacket for Fergie.....
It is New Year's Eve, and over 2,000 passengers & crew are ringing in the New Year aboard the huge cruise ship 'Poseidon' when it capsizes on the open sea in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean.A small group of survivors find themselves unlikely allies in a battle for their lives.Determined to fight their way to the surface, the group sets off through the disorienting maze of twisted steel in the upside-down wreckage. As the unstable vessel rapidly fills with water each must draw on skills and strengths they didn't even know they possessed, fighting against time for their own survival and for each other....So another year and another remake, but this was doomed from the word go, as it stars Josh 'whenever I'm in a blockbuster it flops' Lucas. I think he's a good actor, and some of his more independent films are great, but this, Stealth, and on many levels Hulk, we're failures, and he was one of the big stars of those films. This has all the elements of the original, the old rag tag team who survive have all their own problems, and they come to terms with them throughout the film.Dreyfuss and Russell are the main draw here, and they are great in their roles, Lucas is good, but next to stars of this calibre, he just fades into the background. The effects are the best thing about the whole movie, and once we get to the end of the adventure, you realise that the version with Hackman is still one of the best disaster movies ever made.So in the end, it's not as bad as many state on here, it's just pointless.

A Washout
A very boring film and not a patch on the original "Poseidon Adventure" The characters are all stereotypes form the old man with a failed relationship to the young, chirpy angelic boy looking for a father figure because of his single mother. All credit to the cast, however, for spending so much time submerged in water. Their skins must have become very wrinkly. I cannot recommend this film at any level.

OK for a 'B' Movie
Let's be honest. This is a 'B' movie. If you watch it as a 'B' movie you won't be disappointed, but you're not particularly going to be pleasantly surprised by anything either. The acting, dialogue and storyline are all distinctly average. If you like these sort of action/disaster movies then it's an ok way to spend two hours.

Good Film, all action not really my thing but ...
Good Film, all action not really my thing but if you like action and special effects you'll enjoy this,it was pretty realistic too and well acted, and it also hasn't done anything to change my idea about never wanting to take a cruise holiday....

No. Just no.
I dislike because I didn’t have my glasses on, and accidentally pressed the purchase button. I didn’t want to buy it! It wasn’t even a good film! It was terrible! It could be argued that this was all my fault, but I would argue that there could be a “are you sure you want to buy this bad movie?” button.
