Excellent video but moves fast
This seems to be good program but I find it hard to keep up. Plan on working with it in short segments, then practice those until you can do them well before moving on.

You must have it ! A great Dvd to study , as the otehr Mike's Dvd and books, really good. Mike is the best mandolin teacher I know and he is the best mandolin player I know, too

GREAT DVD
Of all the DVD's out there about learning to play the mandolin, Mike Marshall's are the BEST by far. He doesn't teach you to play individual songs as much as he teaches you how to play the mandolin.

Mike moves too fast for this beginner! For me this was a huge waste of money.

Mike Marshall is one of my favourite musicians and I love his ability to work seamlessly in many different genres. I had no idea his abilities as a teacher would help me out so much either. I came across this DVD recently whilst looking for musical inspiration and new things to learn on my Octave Mandolin. As a predominately folk player I realised that there where a lot of fundamental musical tools I was missing in order to step across the folk world boundary and start experimenting with playing other types of music. This DVD has helped me by simply and un-patronisingly laying out the building blocks of tonality in a straight forward way. Mike quickly covers ground and introduces concepts in a very understandable and down to earth manner. I'm still working through the DVD and I can see there is a lot for a beginner contained in it. You learn all your arpeggios and how they work in their keys. You'll learn the nature of music and chords by covering not only major and minor (IV-V -I) but also circle of fifths, maj7, 7, 6 and m7 chords. progressing eventually to jazz minor and major II-V7-I's.I can't stress this enough - if you are feeling overwhelmed with theory this DVD will clearly and concisely guide you through everything you need to know to play songs and tunes with confidence and great tonality.Thanks Mike for a great, great DVD.
