This is a nice Trim piece, I emphasize Trim because I wouldn't add to much tork/tension to this and expect it to hold. Looks good though and it fit to cover old holes made by previous hardware.

Probably would work well for most applications but in my case the small cutouts were exposed after installation behind a deadbolt. Otherwise a great product.

I had no idea that this was a thing but I’m glad that it is!
We recently had the knob to our front door break off with the bolt in the lock position. It was pretty tragic since my husband is in a wheelchair and that’s the only accessible door. 🙁 After all of my pulling and rocking and cussing and calling my dad (he was integral to me getting that dang bolt out) and cursing this old house, I got the stupid bolt out. Sadly, there was a bit of damage where the tools pressed during my fight with the bolt. The new door knob plate didn’t quite cover this damage so I googled “door knob plate extender” - I had no idea this was an actual thing until “scare plate” came up in the search. And, thank goodness, because I live in Texas and I didn’t want a tiny opening for any of the janky bugs down here to get through. These scar plates were perfect for my problem. They are easy to install and they are sturdy. They actually afford some added security by reinforcing the area as well as covering the gap. I bought two sets - one for the door knob and one for the deadbolt so that it looked intentional. Now that I know that scar plates are a thing I’ll definitely purchase more if needed in the future.

Great for covering a larger hole for a door knob
The hole in my solid wood door was cut larger than the knob flange these days. So I use that to extend over the whole and it worked.
