Cold light, doesn't always work, lousy app—look closely at other reviews. Were they paid with a free bulb?
I bought this bulb mostly because it had a low price and lots of positive user reviews. While it's an inexpensive commoditized product that knocks off the functionality of pricier competitors, I figured the hundreds of reviewers couldn't be wrong.Well, they may have been. Look closely at the other Amazon reviews for this bulb and you'll see that many of them were compensated with a free lightbulb from the company. While that might be a great way of getting a new product from an unknown company into the hands of consumers and onto the front page of Amazon, it also doesn't accurately represent how well a product works. Here's what I've found in the week of trying out this bulb:1.) The light produced can only be described as on the spectrum between "dim Turkish gas station bathroom" and "grow house"—a sickly, bluish glow that drastically cheapens the look of a home and doesn't match the warmth of even a $4.99 CREE bulb.2.) The specs claim the bulb is capable of producing "cool white" and "soft warm" light. However, that's only possible by tweaking the color settings within the (limited) app—and the closest you can get to the warmth of a pricier LED bulb is a sickly yellow. What's more, the bulb resets itself if you have it on a switch or turn the fixture off, and you're back to blue.3.) The bulb occasionally doesn't turn on when I switch on the fixture I have it plugged into. It'll squeal and hum and connect with Bluetooth, but it won't light up.I'll admit — the concept is pretty cool, and the sound quality is alright. Bluetooth pairing isn't bad, either—I've used it both with the app and simply paired with a phone. If you're using it just for parties and want multicolored lighting that changes to the beat of music, that's fine — but I just wanted a conventional LED lightbulb that could also act as a hidden speaker inside a ceiling fixture.Unfortunately, I threw away the packaging when I bought it, so it'll be regifted at the office "White Elephant" party. In the meantime, I'll save my pennies for a Sengled bulb.

Sadly disappointed
I got this yesterday. I'm returning it today. Issues. Bluetooth connection will not stay connected for the light. If I want to use the poorly designed app to control the light I have to hold it within six inches of the bulb for it to connect. I'm using a iPhone 6plus. There has to be two separate connections made apparently one for music or sound and the other to control the light. The app populated the music with my iTunes music. It would play exactly one song! All others it said unable to play. I did get the Amazon music to play thru the speaker one song after the other. Quality of the speaker is ok, nothing great nothing bad. Ok for regular working around the house kind of use. It has a feature to set a turn off timer, you would have to set this each and every day, if you can stay or get connected. The product was and really is a great idea but either their quality control is flawed or the design is. I believe it to be design. It claims a 30 ft Bluetooth range, I can't get it to connect from less than 12 inches from my phone. This equals a failed purchase and instant return. IN NO WAY DO I RECOMEND THIS LIGHT/SPEAKER!

Cool Clean way to add Bluetooth Speaker to a Room (no counter space, no outlet plug space)
This review is based after one week of use, so I cannot speak to the longevity of it yet. I will update the review if we have any issues. We installed this in a light socket above our kitchen sink. The set-up was simple (simply screw into a lightbulb socket, turn light switch on, pair the device over Bluetooth). We were able to successfully pair to it with all three devices we tried thusfar: iPhone6, iPhone5s, and an iPad Air. You can connect over Bluetooth without the special app; however, you will require the App to change the light color, turn the light off (while socket is powered on) and rename the Bluetooth ID (for example, we named ours "KitchenBulb")The sound quality is surprisingly good. It fills the entire kitchen with clear sound (not tinny at all). We can also hear it well from an adjacent room if we set the volume higher. The sound is set by the volume controls on your phone, or tablet (or equivalent device). We were able to stream music directly through the app as well as through Pandora, and the iPhone's default music player. The ability to change the lightbulb color is pretty fun, though we probably will only use that for parties as its more of a novelty. The response to color changes is very quick. The "automatic" feature, which pulses the light brightness and color to the beat of the music is pretty neat... but again more of a novelty that I'll use for the occasional party. The light always defaults to a very bright white, which doesn't match the warmer yellow color of the lights in the room. I can use the app to tune the color to match more closely; however, I do not believe you can save the settings. Therefore, the next time you turn the light on, it reverts to the baseline bright white. The bulb is quite large, as noted by other reviewers; however, it feels very solid and well built. As an engineer I love the simplicity of the device and the creative idea of consolidating two functions (light and speaker) into a single device. You can just as easily buy a dedicated Bluetooth speaker; however, that will take up counter space and an outlet plug. My wife really likes that we have a speaker in the kitchen but its out of sight and powered by the light socket (doesn't take up plug space). Net, it is a very clean way to add sound to any room (no wires, no counterspace, etc.). I ordered several for gifts for the Christmas season. I figured my nieces (8 - 13 years old) would have fun with it too.

The media could not be loaded.

A cheaper alternative to Philips Hue, with the speaker as a plus.
The device itself is pretty good. The installation was easy, the colors are good, the brightness is enough and the speaker works smoothly.Update: 18.03.2017I have found a way to connect to the speaker programmatically through Bluetooth. Using that I can control the bulb through Raspi3 with Python, which fixes most of the problems I have listed before concerning the app, which was also updated to look way better , so I'll be updating the review from 3/5 to 4/5 with the 1 star lost due to the rare random restarts at night causing full on white light and the inability to use the app on android without using the speaker function.[EDITED] Previous Review:What I don't like about the product is the app. You HAVE to use the app, as not only they don't provide an API but they also go as far as obfuscating their code. Furthermore the app they provide is pretty poor in feature and overall poorly designed. It doesn't even come with a widget, and it is such a drag to open the app everytime just to turn it on and off, since if you use the actual light switch it loses its memory. Furthermore the whole disco light feature is based on the volume, and I usually can't turn the volume up enough for the bulb to start flashing lights since I don't live alone. The timer only sets the time the light goes off and there is no way to set it to go automatically on. I could go on about the app, but this is not the place for that...When I bought the device what had in mind was to control it via an application I made for multiple purposes, and hardware-wise it is the perfect device for that. But since let alone being provided a way to control it without their app, I can't even send commands to it by sniffing the Bluetooth communication and imitating it.As I realize most people would be content with just using the given app and the device itself is pretty decent, I am giving it three stars to be fair. But for my usage it unfortunately can't go further than being a cool trivia.
