Why Is Citizen Kane the Best Movie of all time? READ! Read Read the Book!
There is and was so much I did not know about film until this class, and this text book. I love it, I am not taking the class anymore and I did not have to read much out of the book but I read the whole thing. I absolutely recommend keeping if you plan on working in the film industry. It does blow your mind.

I would rent again
I ended up not taking the class that required this book, but it would've been exactly what I needed. I hope to take it in the future. It is very informative. There's a lot more aspects that I had not thought before.

Needed it for a film class. I still use this book today. It contains very grata information, in which I look back on. Was glad I bought it.

Good learning material
I wish there were more side notes on key terms, however this book was very comprehensive. It was written in a conversational manner with examples that made it easy to fallow and understand.

Informative, but a very difficult/messy read
If you are into films this is surely an informative book with a lot of examples and it really goes in depth of the subject.I do however feel that it is a difficult read as you have to go back and forth between pages to see photos of examples etc, which takes you away from the reading experience. I wish it was a smoother read that way, since I lose concentration once I have to jump back a few pages to find a picture described in the text. Also, if you want to follow the on-line quizzes/experience you have to pay an EXTRA $40, there is no code coming with the book. We were required to do the online-thing, but was told the online code came with the book, which is not true!

A Great Film Resource
I had to buy this book for a class, and I have found it to be exceptionally organized and extremely useful for theory. If I were to teach a film class tomorrow, this book would be on my syllabus.

I have truly enjoyed reading each chapter
I purchased the book online for a Film Class. I have truly enjoyed reading each chapter. The book helpsincrease vocabulary on film. I went to go see the movie, "A Walk in the Woods," and noticed for the first timethe 180 degree axis line.

Excellent Book
This text is loaded with great info, illustrations, and features. Amazon must have a distribution center or something similar here in Tucson, AZ (where I live) because I got the book in my hands less than 24 hours after ordering it without any special delivery instructions.

I feel like a semi-Steven Spielberg after reading this book
Okay so I started University back in September and I'm studying Film. My seminar teacher was very vocal about students getting this book as opposed to borrowing it from the library seeing that it won't always be available.I ended up buying the book despite the high cost of 40 pounds -- do I regret it? Absolutely not!The book is quite thick and is packed with all the topics you are going to be covering in your Film course, assuming you are using this for your course. Even if you're buying this for another reason, the book is filled with information from mise-en-scene, cinematography, film form, lots and lots and lots of examples with screenshots and images from films such as Avatar that explains how CGI works in those films to motion capture and so much more.It even recommends you which films to watch in every topic you read. So if I was looking at lighting, it would recommend me to watch a specific film and shows me images that explain the topic more to the knowledge of understanding. I absolutely love this book!It has helped me so much to engage with students during seminars and talk with my seminar leader about things I'm curious to talk about. Yes, the book is expensive but it's AH-mazing! I absolutely love it and seeing that my course is three years long, it's going to benefit me and shape me to become the film director I'm aspiring to become. :)Sidenote: In this book, you'll also learn more about directors, actors, settings, shooting a movie, behind the scenes of how stuff comes together like Lord of the Rings and their incredible use of computer generated motion techniques, etc. I can't praise this book enough.Hope my review will convince at least somebody out there that you get what you pay for. :)
