...unreleased material is mixed by Paul humphries...I have been a fan since 1981....not what I expected from orchestral manoeuvres in the dark at all...discs 1&2 are just the singles...I have not watched the dvds yet nor listened to the live discs...I'm not a fan of live CDs...this is packaged quite nicely ...expensive way of getting crush the movie on DVD...that essentially is what you get for eighty quid...ideal opportunity to celebrate one of the best bands ever and yet again the record companies disappoint us..disc three states archive material volume one...Initially I was disappointed but I have to say it has really grown on me...not quite five stars...needed more from the archives...

very disappointed that either OMD (or their prod company, etc.) should allow such poor quality control - totally ruined the SOUVENIR CD set and taken the shine of the 40th Ann for me. I bought first set from HMV - DVDs OK - all 5 CDs marked and fine scratches on playing surface (esp CDs 1 and 2) - sold that set to a friend for £20 as they are not fussed by non-perfect discs. Bought this last set from Amazon - and its going back for full refund - exactly the same issue, I am trying to think what has happened. The 2 DVDs are just about OK - they are contained in a paper/card envelopes and not squashed together, The CDs on the other-hand have fine surface scratches and imprint marks left from the slot shape cut outs in the card booklet. What has caused this - these factors (or combination)?: CDs surfaces are unusually soft (not cured prop), handling by people pushing the CDs into the card slots, the rough texture of the card booklet, or the when the booklet is closed the CDs are squashed together... I dont know. Solution - OMD, etc look into this and reissue the box set using improved materials and manufacture... I could leave it a few months source a set from elsewhere and hope the problem isn't there. Do the discs play? I think so but haven't tried them in the Naim player yet - but that isn't the point - the CDs should not have scratched and marked playing surfaces. All in all - what better way to ruin a 40th Anniversary - produce a defective product (in my view), and annoy a loyal fan...

Yes, this big box set comes with another greatest hits compilation and a new song which is good, but sounding a bit too much like the newer material - recycled. Hope OMD start to venture into some of their other sounds like the Junk Culture/Crush/Pacific Age era. The true highlight of this box set is the disk of unreleased material. I didn't have great expectations because I figured anything worth hearing would have already been released. That is very much not the case! It's interesting how these songs comes from a stretched period of time yet it all flows like it was just written for today. The song Liberator is the standout, however many of the unreleased tracks are catchy good tunes. Dumbbomb, Cut Me Down, and Dynamo Children are all exquisite! I'm sure I'll watch the DVD's at some point. Definitely nice to have the Crush Film on DVD. Very thrilled that my favorite band from high school are still with us today and active. Cheers to OMD!

A fantastic box set celebrating 40 years of OMD. I've only really been interested in OMD since I bought there 'new' album History of Modern. I've since work my way backwards picking up the 3 albums from the 1990s and the 2 new albums that followed 'HOM'. Have owned a previous 16 track compilation 'the singles' I have been eagerly looking forward to a complete collection of all OMD singles. I was quick to preorder Souvenir and I am please to say that it meets my expectations. All 40 singles are included on the first 2 discs. All appear to be the correct single edits too which is great. It's actually really nice having all the singles together for the first time, especially for newer fans like me who may be unfamiliar with earlier releases and even old fans not familiar with OMD's output in the 2010s. I'm loving 'Genetic Engineering', a song I'm shamefully unfamiliar with and their new track 'Don't Go' which is brilliant.The 3rd CD is a big selling point for hardcore fans of the band as it contains unreleased demos and mixes of tracks that never quite made it to an album. Some tracks are only instrumental ideas, Rhythms and sounds, but there are also several complete songs on here including 'Liberator' which is really catchy.The other audio CDs are two live recordings. One from the Dazzle Ships era I believe and a Radio 2 recording the band did to promote The History of Modern album. Not the biggest fan of live CDs personally and I don't think there's anything special about either performance. At least they are from completely different eras. I would have preferred maybe 2 discs made up of B-sides or even a playlist of Andy and Paul's favourite non-single OMD tracks.Aside from the Rarities cd, the two DVDs are a must have. The first includes 2 live concerts and also the Crush movie which I'd never seen before. The Crush movie is basically a film documenting the band making the Crush album and even a behind the scenes look at some of the promo videos. Really interesting, especially for me having never listened to Crush. Watching this documentary has encouraged me to purchase Crush and also The Pacific Age too.The final DVD includes a selection of BBC performances. It's great seeing the back at various stages of their career performing of Top of The Pops. It's great that they have included alternative TOTP performances of songs too. Only criticism is that I wish they'd included their Jools Holland performance of Dresden too.The packaging is great. The outer box is great quality. Within the box there are three separate elements. A hardback book containing an brief overview of OMD, and details from Andy regarding the unreleased material featured in the boxset. My favourite aspect is the remaining pages that feature the artwork of all 40 singles. I've often appreciated the majority of OMD single covers and it's great seeing each of them getting their own glossy page here. Speaking of Artwork, the sleeve design of this boxset is another fine example. The design is sleek, precise and elegant.The 5 CDs are housed in a seperate cardboard gatefold, where they slide neatly into their own slots. It's here as well that you find several special edition art cards and a reproduction of a promotional poster for the Souvenir single. The DVDs have their own gatefold.All in all this is a fantastic boxset, a decent celebration of a often underrated band. I hope other bands are taking note of how to produce decent boxsets!

Um es vorweg zu nehmen, ich bin kein Fan von OMD der "ersten Stunde." Ich würde sagen, eher ab der "dritten": Mein erster Kontakt mit OMD war damals 1982 die Single "Maid of Orleans" und meine erste OMD-LP war dann "Dazzle Ship" (ja, diese Platte war sogar meine erste LP überhaupt, die ich von meinem eigenen Taschengeld gekauft habe). Und damals fand ich die LP hauptsächlich deshalb genial, weil meine Eltern sie (bis auf "Genetic Engineering") furchtbar fanden.In den Folgejahren habe ich mich zum OMD-Fan gemausert und bin der Band bis heute treu geblieben.Als es dann hieß, dass zu ihrem 40. Jubiläum eine Deluxbox herauskommt, habe ich trotzdem überlegen müssen: Preis, Inhalt, Platz.Ganz ehrlich, ich könnte auf die Gimmicks wie das Buch und diese Singlecover-Drucke und das Poster verzichten; auch die DVDs waren mir persönlich nicht so wichtig.Aber als ich auf Spotify gesehen habe, dass als Single neben dem "Don't go" (das wäre auf der normalen Doppel-CD ja enthalten) auch das "Liberator" als Single promotet wird, wurde es schwierig, denn dieser Titel ist eben physikalisch nur in dieser Box zu haben. Eine Box, die massiven Preisschwankungen unterliegt.Ich habe mich dann schließlich dazu erschienen.Bisher habe ich angehört (auch schon mehrfach, auf verschiedenem Equipment): die ersten 3 CDs (also die Single-Collection-Doppel-CD und die mit den unveröffentlichten Tracks - erschreckenderweise ist hier von "Volume 1" die Rede, ich denke also, die Plattenfirma plant einen weiteren "Anschlag" auf unsere Geldbeutel). Desweiteren habe ich auch schon angehört die erste der beiden Live CDs (Live at the Mermaid Theatre) und eine DVD habe auch schon angeschaut: "DIsc 7", allerdings noch nicht diesen Crush-Movie, der mir ehrlich gesagt auch nichts sagt (das Album "Crush" natürlich schon).Die Box selber ist stabil und macht durchaus was her.In der Box sind 2 Klappordner und ein Buch.Was mir negativ aufgefallen ist: Die 5 CDs stecken relativ straff in Aussparungen in einem der Klappordner (siehe Foto). Nicht gut für die CDs (Kratzer) und auch die Haltetaschen, da ist es eine Frage der Zeit, wann die einreissen. Aber gut, da kann man sich entsprechend behelfen, aber es ist für mich schon ein Manko. An der Stelle ein weiteres Manko, Amazon bietet für diese Box keinen Auto-Rip, was hier wirklich sinnvoll wäre. Schade.Zu den CDsZum Inhalt der Single-Collection braucht man nicht viele Worte verlieren. Diesmal scheinen wirklich alle 7" vereint zu sein, die neue Single "Don't go" finde ich aber im direkten Vergleich zu den anderen Werken eher belanglos.Klanglich bin ich sehr zufrieden, ich kann keinen "Loudnesswar" hören.Die CD mit dem unveröffentlichten Archivmaterial lohnt sich anzuhören. Gut, es sind einige "Titel", de gerade mal Soundschnippsel sind, aber es gibt auch für mich drei richtige Perlen darauf: "Brand New Science", ein Titel, der ziemlich stark aufzeigt, wie sehr OMD Kraftwerk mögen, denn es könnte ein Kraftwerk-Titel sein, dann "Liberator" (warum wurde das 1985 nicht als Single ausgekoppelt?) und das charmante "Flamenco".Auch diese CD ist klanglich wunderbar.Was ich schade finde: Es gibt, bis auf das Entstehungsjahr, keinerlei Angaben zu diesen Tracks. Da hätte man doch in dem Buch vielleicht ein wenig dazu schreiben können.So bietet aber das Buch aber eigentlich nichts wirklich Spannendes (subjektiv für mich), ein paar Worte über OMD; ein paar Fotos und dann halt die Bilder der Single Cover, so wie man das von der So80s- Reihe kennt.Und schließlich die erste Live-CD, die ich angehört habe ( Mermaid Theatre), hat mich endgültig davon überzeugt, das Geld gut angelegt zu haben, zumindest was die Musik anbelangt.Die DVDs stecken wenigstens nochmal in kleinen Pappschateln und sind so ein wenig vor dem Verkratzen geschützt - warum man das nicht bei den 5 CDs gemacht hat, wissen nur die Produktdesigner.Zum Bild: die Konzerte sollte man nicht per Beamer auf großer Leinwand gucken - man erkennt nichts. Kein Wunder, Bildmaterial von 1981 und 1985. Aber: Der Klang. Wunderbar, da kann man nicht meckern.Den Crush-Movie habe ich noch nicht angeschaut auch noch nicht die zweite DVD.Fazit: Die Box ist das Geld wert, was die Klangqualität und Musik betrifft.Was mich aber wirklich ärgert: Mitte Oktober erscheint ein streng limitierte 7"-Vinylsingle mit einem wirklich genialen Vince Clarke - Remix von "Almost" und "Electricity" in der Ur-Version, wie sie damals bei Factory Records auf 7" veröffentlicht wurde.Wenn man schon eine teure Box auf den Markt bringt: Diese beiden Titel hätten noch problemlos auf eine der ersten drei CDs gepasst und meines Erachtens auch gehört (auch wenn es natürlich nicht mehr 40 Jahre - 40 Singles wäre).Oder anstatt Poster und der Single-Cover-Drucke (im Metallic Design) hätte man die Vinylsingle beilegen können.So aber hat das Ganze für mich einen leicht faden Beigeschmack.Von daher: Musik und Sound: 5 Sterne, Ausstattung 3, macht 4.(etwaige Tippfehler bitte ich zu übersehen)

OMD zeichnen für ein paar der größten 80er Jahre Hits verantwortlich. Beispiele gefällig ? "Maid Or Orleans (The Waltz Joan of Arc)" war 1982 die meistverkaufte Single in D (und erstaunlicherweise auch ihr einziger Nr. 1 Hit), "If you leave" ging in den USA durch die Decke, "Enola Gay", "Souvenir", "Joan of Arc" und "Locomotion" waren Top 10 Hits in England. Auf dieser Doppel CD sind aber endlich alle Songs, die OMD as Singles veröffentlicht haben, zu finden. CD 1 (1979 - 1987) ist dabei für mich die stärkere, nicht nur weil die oben genannten Songs hier zu finden sind, sondern auch weil man mit "Telegraph", "Never turn away" und "We love you" Singles hat, die sonst auf OMD Best Of`s gerne mal vergessen werden.OMD trennten sich vorübergehend 1988 (Paul Humphreys stieg aus), Andy McCluskey führte OMD von 1991 bis 1996 alleine - und das hört man auch. Auch hier findet man gute Songs ("Pandora`s box", "Dream of me", "Walking on the milky way"), aber eben auch das nervtötende "Sailing on the seven seas" - immer noch einer der größten OMD Hits, auch wenn ich nicht so ganz kapiere warum.... Jedenfalls sind nicht nur die Jahre 1988 - 1996 vertreten, sondern auch die Singles ab 2011, von denen "If you want it", "Metroland", "Night Cafe" und "Isotype" die stärksten Songs sind. Auch die neue Single "Don't go" fügt sich nahtlos ein.Falschmachen kann man als 80er Fan und/oder OMD Einsteiger gar nichts. Insbesondere CD 1 besteht eigentlich nur aus guten Songs. Wer sich aber tiefer mit OMD befassen will, dem seien neben dieser unverzichtbaren Best Of noch die Alben "Organisation", "Architecture & Morality" und "The Pacific Age" empfohlen.

Ich beziehe mich hier auf die Vinyl-Version. Im Großen und Ganzen eine tolle Zusammenstellung aller OMD Singles. Leider fällt die Aufmachung der Box/Hülle eher spärlich aus. Keine Bilder oder Songtexte. Dies wäre bestimmt noch drin gewesen bei so einer umfangreichen Edition. Daher ein Stern Abzug. Positiv wiederum ist, dass hier ein Code beiliegt, mit dem man alle Songs digital herunterladen kann. Für Fans der Musik eine Empfehlung.

Auch wenn es viel Geld ist, man bekommt auch viel Musik dafür :-) und für den Fan der ersten Stunde, ein echtes "MUST HAVE".Sehr hochwertig verarbeitete Geschenkbox mit vielen Extras. Sehr hochwertige Drucke und ein gut gebundenes Buch. Lohnt sich, ein 50 jähriges wird es ja wahrscheinlich nicht mehr geben ;-)Anmerkung zum Schluss: Finde sie erfinden sich auch nach dieser langen Zeit immer noch wieder neu. Nicht mehr zu experimentel, aber wir Zuhörer werden ja auch älter ;-) und reifer :-))...freue mich schon auf die Souvenirtour über die ganz Europa verteilt. :-)

Fantastic collection. It covers OMD's career from the early days right up until the present. A lot fo rare stuff on some of the CD's and a full complete chronological collection of all their songs. There are 3 live video concerts on one DVD and all of their BBC appearances on another. The art work is excellent and can be mounted in frames if you wished, superb quality as is the book that accompanies the collection. It is stylishly put together and must have. Only thing I wish they would've included is the gigs with the LPO but hey, already spoiled by the collection, but doesn't hurt to want more :)

The makings of a true celebration for the fans. This box set brings allot of gems to the OMD catalogue previously unavailable to the followers. Finally, a DVD release of the long eluded VHS films of both the live film from 1981 and of the Crush Video Album. But to include a CD filled with previously unreleased songs and bit from their first 12 years is icing on the cake. Not to mention the inclusion of other live performances from the 80's. A true collector's item that I will cherish for years to come.

A part la nouvelle chanson, les deux CDs compilant pour la nième fois les tubes de OMD sont inutiles pour quelqu'un comme moi qui a déjà tous leurs CDs (parce qu'à qui d'autre s'adresserait ce coffret ?) mais le reste du coffret rattrape largement. A commencer par la chanson inédite en dernière position sur le CD #2. Les lives sur les CD #4 et 5 et le DVD #2 donnent une vue très intéressante sur l'évolution du groupe en live. Les archives du CD #3 sont d'un intérêt moindre mais on y trouve quand même quelques chansons qui sont bien. Les passages à la télé anglaise (DVD #1) sont un peu répétitifs mais amusants.

Dit album is het beste Best of album van OMD tot nu toe! Zéér content met dit album. Mooie samenstelling van muziek en aangevuld met een paar onbekende (B-kant?) nummers. Mooi en subliem geluid, en de moeite waard om aan te schaffen als fan of verzamelaar of liefhebber van de jaren tachtig muziek. Kopen dus!!

If you like OMD in the early/mid-eighties....Disc # 1 is remastered as well as can be expected with the tapes available!

I couldn't be happier with this album. It has almost all the song i would want it to have. The packaging and by that i mean the tri-sleeve design is of excellent quality. This is a must have for any OMD or 80's music fan.
