Q: does the white background show on the shirt

It did on mine. Instructions say to leave a border around it when you cut it out. I did and it showed on my dark shirt.

there is a film on the surface, for the film, it is glossy

Q: Do you need tape to.go with product or it just iron right on shirt after printing

No tape needed. Just iron it on for the directions. But one important thing to know. The dimensions are incorrect on the transfer paper. It is supposed to be eight and a half by 11 just like regular printer paper but these sheets are 8 in by 11 and 1/2 in so they may not fit in your printer.
