Salomon Quest Prime GORE-TEX Men's Backpacking Boot

I’ll start out with the only con I have- sizing: I went through 4 pairs to get the right size. I wear a 6.5-7 and tend to go to 7 in running/hiking shoes for a little more room. I ordered these in both 6.5 and 7 and both were huge. Returned and ordered 5.5 and 5 and ended up keeping the 5.5. Just something to note when ordering. On to the shoes themselves! I ordered these on the recommendation (insistence) of my Orthopedist after tearing a ligament in my ankle and fracturing several bones. After 16 weeks in an airboot and a (forced) very sedentary lifestyle, I was able to avoid surgery and I wanted to return to hiking. She insisted I only do so if I wear these. I completed my first hike post injury this weekend (Granted it was only 5 miles and nothing too extreme) But these boots were the key. As others have mentioned, there was zero break in time. Not one rub or any area of discomfort. The locking lace holder at the ankle was key as well. Great boots, great fit (once you figure out sizing) and they look good as well!

It’s taken a while to get to the point where I have gotten enough use out of these to write a review. First of all, I don’t have much to compare these to. Until now I have been wearing Saucony trail shoes and found them really good for what I was using them for: mainly walking trails but no serious hiking. I have started hiking more demanding trails and have found the Salomon Quest boots to be more than equal to anything I can do with them. I thought they would need breaking in- not at all. Right out of the box they were more comfortable and supportive than anything I had ever worn. The first real test was a 9 mile hike on some pretty demanding trails in which they performed flawlessly. This was only the second time I had worn them, so that’s saying something. Okay, they are a bit pricey but not excessively and you certainly get your money’s worth. I can recommend them highly. Oh, on top of everything else, they are incredibly lightweight.

These boots are perfect. My last pair were Salomons and I wore them to pieces over several years. I wanted another pair but the $$ price tag was steep! I looked at a different style "Salomon Quest Prime GORE-TEX Men's Backpacking Boot" than my previous b/c Amazon had a pair that were "Like New" and half the price! I took a gamble and it paid off financially and product satisfaction. The one area I kept debating was the overall boot height & shaft height. I recently took some pics I will be uploading to this review, but they were: 6 1/2" from the floor to the REAR top of boot 8 1/2" from floor to highest area on the boot tongue I would say they are 7 1/2" tall boots from the floor average. Comfortable out of the box. My son & I immediately went bouldering the day I got them & they were stellast. No break-in period.

Usually wear a size 6, a size 5 fit me like a glove so comfy for the sneakers. So I wasn't sure what size boot to get. I usually order a 6.5 or 7 boot depending on brand due to thick socks, the ankle hole is quite tight on the size 5.5 so i returned and ordered a 6.5, also tight ankle hole, but using a show slide I got my foot in, WAY TOO BIG and uncomfortable after walking 2 miles didn't fit the arch of my foot properly. Size 5.5 was perfect once I was able to figure out how to get my foot in them.

We have purchased these boots at least twice before - so we obviously think they are worth the money. The shipping this time was an Epic FAIL. DHL says they were delivered and Signed For at 10:30PM on a Friday night. No package. "Have you checked your porch?" If someone signed for them don't you think they would have brought them inside. Also, if you are ringing my door bell at 10:30 any night, you are going to hear some very agitated dogs. Less than 15 minutes after I got off the phone with DHL, I got an email saying the packaged in fact had NOT been delivered and I should contact the seller - in POLAND. I WILL buy these boots again, but will find somewhere else to purchase them.

These boots seem very high quality. I have been looking for boots specifically to accommodate a bunionette, and these definitely had a wide enough toe box to do so. They are higher on the ankle and therefore would offer more ankle support, and the sole is thick and would be good for walking over rough terrain. I ended up returning only because the arch on the shoe did not fit the arch on my foot and therefore they were not as comfortable as I wanted to for long hikes. I would definitely recommend ordering at least a half size down. I normally wear an 8.5 or 9 but an 8 fit best in these.

Ordered these Salomon women’s boots for upcoming backpacking trip in mountains of SC. Solomon shoes are the only shoes I can order in a women’s size and they actually fit me out of the box. I have wide feet and pretty bad bunions. These boots actually probably had a little wiggle room which I’m happy for because I can layer my socks or wear really thick hiking socks. They’re very sturdy, very thick sole which makes them a little more on the stiff side but great ankle support. I’d love if they were little bit more cushioned sole but inserts could probably help that

For all the larger men in the room, or average, I’m 6’ and 230 with a 13w. Out of the box I wore these on a 12 hour shift in ER and getting out of them was Heaven. Then I wore them another 12 hours just day to day, and then another. After 36 hours of wear they became comfortable. This is a rugged boot designed for hiking. After a low round hike in the swamps it stands up well. Keeps out water. I will say that there are more inexpensive boots that do the same.

These pair of boots are awesome for travel, work and even for my weekend workouts. very comfortable and very light for extended hours of wear and use.

Pretty comfy and seem relatively waterproof but on wet rock or wood its like walking on skates. Be very careful when walking on those surfaces.

Durable, and great for heavy backpacking
