All God's Children: The Bosket Family and the American Tradition of Violence

captures one's attention from the very first paragraph.
Butterfield did an excellent job amassing research and narrating this sad tale. The manner in which he <Butterfield> wrote had me enthralled immediately. I purchased the book for a class and was happy I did. Very interesting, while I do not fully embrace all of Butterfield's conclusions, I loved the way he put them together including the basis for conclusions. This book not only educated me, but it made me think. Very enjoyable, I will be searching for more Butterfield.

All God's Children
I'd read this book sometime ago and although I can't say it's a book you could like, it's an eye opening experience for anyone who wonders why we are where we are in the nation today. The book is uncomfortable to say the least. I actually recommended it to a couple of colleagues and bought the copies for them. They seem pretty impressed, like I was.At the end of the day, we all make choices, but your environment also has a huge impact on your perspective. If you feel like you have nothing at stake in society, why would you want to acknowledge societal rules that have done nothing less then try to destroy you and your family? Definiely worth reading, but the warning is every reader needs to be able to counterbalance the book. I remind my friends that the main character is an outlier and an (extreme case of things gone wrong) and not the mainstream. I think a lot of people woould learn something from reading this book. I think a lot of people would like to say these conditions couldn't exist in america.

A must for your library...one of the few books that tells the truth of the damaging effects of slavery on modern minds!
At first I was not sure what to expect. Was it another white author trying to show us the plight of a young Afrikan boy growing up in New York City. I really just went off of the other reviews and from what I researched people gave great respect to Mr. Butterfield's work. The minute I opened the book I was immediately enthralled with the wicked history of Edgefield South Carolina and how it would use and murder Afrikans like cattle being led to the slaughter. I also liked how the author broke down the psychological damage not only inflicted on this family but ALL families affected by slavery in the United States. Such a taboo topic to mention even today, but a necessary evil to heal the trauma of this country. I read this book a few times and have even ordered copies for friends. The Willie Bosket story is one that reflects an American tragedy that is not so in the past!

Gripping
This narrative non-fiction reads like a novel, a gripping family saga with dramatic twists and turns. The thread of Willie Bosket's violent life winds all the way back to the horrors of slavery and the violence of the American South.

Phenomenal story of a boy raised by our dysfunctional non-justice system.
Incredible author & story. Everyone should read this to understand what many people are faced with in their lives in a society of unjust lawmakers & dismissive adults.
