Good
I’m very impressed with this generator. The build quality feels solid and durable, and it has plenty of power. I especially like the dual-fuel option and the electric start, which make it very convenient to use. It runs smoothly and feels like a reliable product for home backup power. Excellent quality for the price. Highly recom

As expected - matched highly rated reviews
Received the Westinghouse WGen9500DF Generator and immediately unboxed and assembled. Although the box had a good-sized tear in the side, the contents of the inside of the box were unharmed. The Amazon delivery people had a hard time getting it out of the truck because unlike other transport providers, whoever loaded up their truck did not place items from rear to front in the order of delivery. Instead my generator was towards the front of the truck so the delivery staff had to spend a good 30 minutes re-arranging the contacts of the truck in order to get access to my generator. The box is extremely heavy so I am surprised the generator is not palletized which could eliminate damage? While unboxing I noticed some of the cardboard and plastic wrap was drenched in oil which was initially concerning. However, once I got the unit out of the box and wiped down things were fine. There are plenty of warnings in the manual and tags on the unit indicating the generator is shipped without engine oil so my worries were unfounded. only some minor scratches on the frame which I can touch-up with spray paint. Other than that the unit looked flawless. Assembly was a breeze and took a whole 10 minutes (install two wheels, two foot pads, add oil which is supplied, and add gas). Looked over the manual and had the unit running within 30 minutes of unboxing. Tested both the push-button start and remote start. Placed the unit under a light load in my garage and seemed to work fine. Pending installing a 50A outlet running from the outside of our home to a manual transfer switch which I have yet to receive and install. Decided to utilize the included battery charger to charge overnight until the LED went from red (Charging) to green (Charged). The unit has a nice fold-down handle which makes wheeling it around very simple, even for my wife. My plan is to store it in the garage, then when we lose power (maybe once or twice a year here in WI), wheel it outside, plug it into the outlet (well inlet really), get it running then manage the transfer switch depending on where we need power. I sized the unit (9500W running on gas) to twice the load we plan to power during an outage. I have done the math (both for peak inrush and running currents) and plan on loading it with a fridge, a freezer, a well pump, garage door opener(s), furnace (for winter outages), and a portable air conditioner unit (for summer if needed), lastly some minimal lighting and outlets for low wattage items if needed. It is not the intent to provide back-up to the entire home since outages here in WI are minimal and last perhaps hours to a day at max, but preparing for future outages due to electrical grid issues? Nice problem to have if our electrical grid remains as reliable as it has, but good to be prepared. I decided (for now) to leave the central A/C out of the backup circuit due to it's power draw, is the reason we will just run a portable A/C in one room to stay cool if needed. Also deciding to lighten the load in case we need to run on propane which reduces the running watts by 1000. Anyway, I like the idea of dual fuel capability as we almost surely have tanks of propane sitting around just in case we run out of gas. The unit appears very well built, high quality materials, everything well laid-out (control panel, gas / oil, etc.) and expect for the 50A plug aligning with a wheel causing the 50A plug needing to be bent slightly, very well designed. I had to minimally bend the 50A cord slightly to get it too fit snugly into the outlet so no big deal for me. Westinghouse also provides clear instructions how to modify the unit for unbonded neutral. I am an industrial engineer and understand neutral to ground bonds so if you don't understand this, do your research and understand consequences of modifying the bind, please consult a licensed electrician. I looked into a Generac whole home automatic generator, and although they are nice, the price-point is easily 10 times more than I spent on the WGen9500DF and items I need for connection to a manual transfer switch (went with the Reliance 510C). So unless you experience outages routinely, don't mind a little manual intervention during an outage, and are not infinitely wealthy, consider this as an option as you can possibly create a backup solution that does not empty your bank account.

Plenty of power, easy operation
I purchased the Westinghouse WGen9500DF based primarily on the reviews, and on the fact that I wanted a true "dual fuel" generator, though my plan is to never put gas in it, but to run it on propane exclusively. Ordered from amazon my generator came quickly, packaging was excellent and it was in perfect condition upon arrival. Assembly was easy, I barely looked at the directions and was able to put it together in about fifteen minutes. While the unit is heavy , it's very mobile once it's wheels are in place and the handle attached. Start up with easy, From the beginning it fired right up, It's plentiful power is more than enough to power my entire home. I had a manual transfer switch and exterior plug in port installed To make it simple to switch over to generator power. I find this method is roughly eighty percent cheaper than going for a whole house system. No it's not as convenient but, It saves a fortune, and if you need to take your generator elsewhere you can. The directions are excellent. There's a lot of documentation included with this generator and it does a fine job a detailing all of the safety recommendations and features of this generator. I paid close attention to all of this documentation as I ran the generator through its break in period. While my usage of this generator is not extensive at this point I feel extremely comfortable that when the time arises and it is called into action both the generator and I will be ready to meet the task. A few other notes. The remote start is excellent. Being able to start and stop the is a nice touch. If you're like me , you'll be using an on/off cycle to keep things charged, cool, warm and dry. The remote will make that much easier. Further the trickle battery charger ensures that the generator is always at the ready. I will update this review when the time comes and i've had a more extensive history with it. But as of this time i'm extremely pleased and feel extremely prepared. This is a great powerful unit, sold at a reasonable That gives the user excellent value for the money. Five stars!

Excellent!
I've had this generator for almost 6 years (purchased in 2020). It has worked great for power outages after typhoons. Used it daily for almost a month after a 2023 typhoon. It is strong enough to power everything needed to be comfortable until full grid power is restored. It could run our whole house if we wanted, but we opt to only turn on what we need for comfort, refrigerator, AC (36k btu), lights, tv and outlets to charge electronic devices. By not using its full output capacity it allows the fuel to burn more slowly. I filled up the tank, had it running for 9hrs straight, and when I went to check the gage there was a bit less than a quarter tank left (maybe 1/8) which I think could have gotten maybe another hour or so. (Note: I was running a 21k btu AC at this time and not the 36k). The generator currently has just about 215 hours on it and it still works great. We used it for about 4 straight days after a recent Tropical Storm. Because it just passed the 200 hour mark, I did a maintenance service on it; replaced spark plug, added new air filter, and changed the oil. The only issue I would mention is that I have replaced the carburetor twice since owning it. However, I would not point that fault at the generator itself or manufacturer. I would put that blame on myself forgetting to completely drain the gas tank and carburetor bowl when it is not expected to be used for a while. Other than that I cannot think of any cons to this generator. The best feature is the dual fuel aspect. If gas lines are long after a storm, being able to run on propane is a nice added option/convenience. Our last usage (4 days) was solely on propane. The highly rated reviews are accurate. I give this generator 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone looking for one.

Great generator just make sure you turn on the gas.
We are first time generator owners and know very little about them. This Westinghouse generator is a nice piece of equipment and arrived in pristine condition. We were going to wait for the electrician to put in the 50 amp plug but there were rumors of Hurricane Francis hitting Houston so we decided to make sure it worked. We put the oil in (which came with the unit), 5 gallons of gas and connected the battery for the start button. We followed the Quick start guide. We made sure the unit was turned to gas and not propane. We turned the engine switch button to on and pressed the start button. It sounded like it wanted to turn on but it just wouldn’t start. After many unsuccessful tries I called Westinghouse. The customer service lady who was extremely nice said it sounded like we had done everything right. I even turned on the speaker phone so she could hear the unit try to start. She said because it was less than 30 days I should contact Amazon to return the unit. She said it sounded like the carburetor. She said if we didn’t want to return it they could send a new carburetor for install. I told her we had no idea how to replace a carburetor. So I called Amazon and they suggested I call the manufacturer which I had already done. So the person from Amazon, who was very nice, said it would take 48 hours for a resolution. In the meantime I started watching some videos on the unit that we purchased, only to find out that there is a little silver switch close to the pull rope that you have to turn on. Once that was turned on it started right up. That switch was turned off during shipping. There is no mention of the switch until you get past the Starting Procedure and the Shutdown procedure. It’s at the bottom of the page as a NOTE. As mentioned earlier we have never owned a generator so this is all new to us but I think it will be great when the power goes out and we don’t have to suffer through extreme heat or cold and we will be able to save all our food from spoiling. Aside from figuring out from someone else’s video that I needed to turn on that little silver switch all is good. Hopefully we won’t need to use it anytime soon but I like the peace of mind now that we have it. I gave it 4 stars because of the frustration with the switch.

Needed this 2 weeks after purchase
We lost power in a storm within a couple weeks of purchasing this. 10 hours. Kept fridge running and powered some lights while charging electronics. Hooked up and started up easily. Only using propane. Waiting for a 50 amp interlock hookup to use for 80% of power needs. So far so good.

Fantatic value professional level generator
This generator is not only extremely powerful and can drive my entire home, but the setup/instructions and user friendliness are exceptional. I was easily able to set it up and have it running in 30 mins with all tools, oil, funnel provided. The remote start is a great bonus here in Ontario where -30C is a certainty at some point this Winter. The build quality is superb - heavy duty materials, vcery tidy assembly and no loose fittings (yes I checked). There are only 2 small comments I would make, and 1 is something the manufacturer cannot really address without a lot of expense. The item is shipped without the the wheels or feet attached for understandable reasons, and the buyer must install them. Doing this is extremely simple and takes just a minute or 2, but the generator must be turned onto it's side to do this, and it is a very heavy piece of equipment. I am a 200lb guy and no stranger to the gym and I had no issues with this, but it is something to be aware of - if you are not able to handle heavy weights, you will need assistance to do this. Secondly, the website I ordered from said that the generator came with a spare spark plug, which it did not. Not a big issue. Overall, I am absolutely delighted with this generator and would not hesitate to recommend it

Super Generador

NO POWER rip off: Initial review was sent too soon!!!
FOLLOW UP REVIEW: ** DO NOT GET THIS GENERATOR. After only a month, I could not get it started. It is now May and it still is not working. I have been told that I must pay for a service call. I am totally disgruntled with Westinghouse. If I do not wish to pay for the service call ($60), I must take it to the service centre to see what is wrong with it. I am 75, female, and cannot lift the generator. What a waste of $2500. As a consumer, do we have no rights anymore. I want to swear. Ordered this generator in October and finally got around to installing it yesterday - January 9th 2025. It was an easy install and started once the gas reached the engine. Tried the key fob remote - started up immediately. So far I'm excited about this generator. Sure hope it continues to comfort me. I love it.
