Automatic Gate Latch, Black, 4 in Strike, Model N184-861, For Outswing Gates Doors Animal Pens

I needed a new gate latch. This was priced well to get my sale. Was easy to attach with suppled hardware too. It is used many times a day and seems sturdy enough for the job. Holds securely.

This gate latch is well made - parts don't bind, paint is even and serves as a protective layer over the metal and comes with good quality black screws to fasten the hardware. On my gate, I drilled a hole through the wood above the latch release and ran a nylon string through it to let myself out of the chicken run from the inside. Works very well! Nice that the hole to attach the string was part of the latch mechanism. I pre-drilled the holes and even with the use of a impact screw driver, the Phillips head screws didn't protest and went in snugly. This is. a welcome change when a simple low impact driver can shear off a lesser mounting screw and casue re-work and put a damper on a project that is progresssing smoothy otherwise. I guess it's the small things that work well that can make a product worth looking for and purchasiong again, I'm now on my 3rd gate and have ordered 3 of these National Hardware latches. Great product.

The product arrived quickly, but the arm was missing from the initial shipment. However, their customer service was outstanding—after contacting them, they promptly sent a replacement, which arrived just a few days later. I installed it today, and it’s absolutely perfect! It did what it was supposed to do. It was good to lock my fence gates.

Quite sturdy for what it is - Not sure it's really any better than the average one you'd find at a hardware store, but can't argue that it's a solid value for the price. I do wish that it came with a line to pull it open, but I can't fault it as it doesn't say it's included.
