WD 2TB My Passport for Mac portable external storage, USB 3.0, Mac Compatible external hard drive, software for device management, backup and password protection, Time Machine Ready, Midnight Blue

I had problems with my Mac recognising 2 LaCie HD's which i had to return, so I ordered this without much confidence. However, I plugged it into my new 2020 MacBook Pro and it instantly opened Time Machine and asked if I wanted to use it as a Time Machine backup - clicked yes and it started to back up the 500GB of data - my selecting 'back up automatically' it set itself to do hourly, daily and weekly backups. Super simple and effortless - not had it long so can't say what the longterm operation is like but for a plug and forget backup system it seems hard to beat. The HD is also very small and neat, you could slip it into the breast pocket of a suit jacket and not know it was there (not sure why you would want to do that but it illustrates it's compact size).

I would recommend this piece of kit for storage and backup, but a word of caution - as mentioned in other reviews this EHD has a tendency to suddenly stop working and this seems to only happen when I utilise off-line. Being a wildlife photographer and working on multiple large raw files I try to avoid clogging my iMac and this piece of kit seems to have a 6-12 month shelf life when used as a regular daily working tool. Used as solely storage/ backup have never had one go down. If it goes down "disk drill" always did the recovery.

Took a while to back up an old MacPro and, surprisingly, a new MacBook Air, but works, works well, has decent password protection. Its nicely compact too, and feels of very good quality.

I bought this WD Passport to replace an old one that I'd had since 2009 that was developing problems. I paid roughly the same price as back then, but these days you get a heap more storage - 2TB as opposed to 320 GB. It's also more compact and much lighter. Very easy to plug in and play straight out of the box. Two cables are provided - USB-C and USB-A - very useful if you have an old Mac but may be upgrading in the future. I am not sure I will use 'WD Discovery' software to connect to social media and cloud storage services, as I just want a basic, easy 'drag & drop' external hard drive . But it's useful to have incase you change your mind. All in all - good value, easy to use and nice and portable.

This drive works great so far. I needed it to back up the Mac I use for my small business. It was really easy to use, no issues with setup or the backup.

Für eine HDD ist sie ausreichend schnell (Backups, Dateien, Fotos etc. absolut okay) und insgesamt stimmt das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis für mich richtig gut. Fazit: Solide, unkomplizierte Mac-Festplatte mit fairer Performance – klare Empfehlung.

Western Digital has always been a more stable and reliable product line for me in the HDD space whether internal or external. This drive is no different. So far, it has provided the stability and reliability that I have grown accustomed to. It is perfect for a simple backup drive I can use to backup my Macbook I plan to eventually use as a work machine. I may purchase another Macbook with the 1 TB drive and 24 GB of memory, or maybe 32 GB. I will purchase another one of these drives to as a backup drive for that system when the time comes. I recommend this drive. It is small, lightweight, and it appears to allow speedy transfer and write of data.
