It is a very nice piece, but as for a good functioning instrument, it's pretty bad. The magnetic bearings are great, however, the relative bearings are not. The relative bearing circle moves as you try to get a bearing. Relative bearing circle should be set and not move. Once you set 000 relative to 000 magnetic, the instrument should be able to be moved left or right to take a bearing. This instrument doesn't do that because the 000 relative bearing ring moves with the scope. It can be modified though I guess by securing the relative bearing circle. Or just an added step in calculation once magnetic north is established, turn the scope to the bearing you want (keeping the needle to the established north and as long that needle stays in position, you can take the bearing off magnetic. The manufacturer should have figured this flaw out.
