Two Truths and a Lie: Histories and Mysteries

This wasn't what I had in mind when I ordered it. The book is divided into sections, but essentially you read three "chapters" and decide which one was completely made up. It just seemed like an awful lot of misinformation. I was going to gift it to my nephew, but once I received it I decided against it and chose a different book.

Using this series for my research unit with my upper elementary library classes. They love it. Definitely better than the old, boring lessons. I highly recommend these books. I got extra paperback copies so that I could tear the pages out and let each table group have their own to read as they are researching the topics.

This series is perfect for helping to foster critical reading skills! It has excellent voice in the writing, making it an engaging nonfiction read.

Love this series! This is a really fabulous series that invites the reader to guess whether each chapter is true or false. As the title implies 2/3 of the chapters are based on fact and 1/3 on fiction. The authors are persuasive every time so determining what is true and what is not is a fun challenge for any age. Kids will enjoy the short chapters, intriguing topics, and surprises along the way. Highly recommend for reluctant readers.

My kids and I love this series. It's great for family participation -- we all read each section and debate which part we think is true and which is the lie. Often the kids get it right and the grownups are wrong... which, needless to say, the kids love!Really fantastic for teaching critical thinking.

My whole family (two grownups, an 8-year-old and an 11-year-old) love the Two Truths and A Lie series. They make for great family participation-- we all compete to see who can spot the lie!

I LOVE these books! What rattling good stories! Each chapter has three tales which all sound equally plausible or ridiculous. The reader’s job? To pick the one that is true! Sounds easy, right? Well, just when I think I know which is the one, I find myself surprised! They’re geared for ages 8-12 but, as you can tell, even those older can thoroughly enjoy them. We are buying both for each of our girls’ homes so the grandkids can enjoy them. Who knows, I might even have to buy a set for myself, too 😉
