Gus Makes a Friend (Scholastic Reader, Pre-Level 1)

I thought as a pre-school 1 book it would include more simple cvc words but it doesn't. Maybe my expectations were incorrect just be aware that it's not a simple reader book just because it's preschool 1.

Our Granddaughter is in preschool and is just beginning to read...she loves her Gus books and reads one every day. They are a great esteem builder for our beginning reader!

My youngest granddaughter has special needs and reads below grade level; she LOVES reading about the adventures of Gus because she can read it easily and she calls her Uncle Alex, Uncle Gus.... Win, Win

Fun for the parent to read:The innocence of the build up between Gus and the giraffe friend.The little irony Gus's mom seem to notice.The subtle role of the peas.This one has a soul.

My 4 year old Granddaughter is so proud of herself for being able to read a book by herself! We love the pre-level 1 books for beginner readers!

i bought 4 of these pre- level or level one for my great grandson--he loves stories,and wants to read his stories him self--these fewer words,larger letters makes it really easy for a child to follow along

Not easy to find books with the name Gus on them, so these were perfect for our grandson. cute read and adorable! we really enjoy the leveled readers...a short read for parents when bedtime has been dragging out way to long, and then they make a great reader when the children are learning to read for themselves!

We like the Gus books, I think they are one of the best easy readers for beggining readers. The only issue is my beggining reader daughter still feels "they are too long" and gets discouraged. I love that they use the same words a few times in the story to make it easier. They are a good step up from advanced reader BOB books for young or struggling new readers

The illustrations are nice, but the text is not: there are some mistakes and the amount of text is just a line or two on every page.
