Matcha Green Tea Japanese Matcha Powder, Unsweetened, 2 Ounce

I’ve bought this matcha 4+ times, so I think I’ve officially found my go-to!! I’ve tried several other popular matcha brands on Amazon, including Charism, but Ito En is the one I keep coming back to. The flavor is exactly what I want from matcha: a distinct savory, green, slightly seaweedy flavor, a subtle bitterness, and a gentle sweet green-tea finish. It actually tastes like matcha instead of getting lost behind sweetness or milk. And the aroma is sooo good — that fresh, seaweedy matcha smell is genuinely one of my favorite things about opening the bag. This was also the matcha that convinced me to buy a traditional bamboo whisk. It makes a fantastic latte too! That was a big deal for me because the Charism matcha I tried was much more delicate and subtle, and its flavor practically disappeared in a latte. Ito En has enough flavor and character to still shine through the milk. The color is beautiful as well — that vibrant emerald green you want to see from a matcha — and the resealable ziplock-style bag is great for keeping it closed between uses. My only sort-of downside is that I wish the bag were bigger because I go through it quickly. But honestly, I think the smaller package is also a plus for matcha since I’d rather finish it while it’s fresh than have an opened bag sitting around for ages. For daily drinking, I think this is an excellent value and an easy recommendation. I’ve also tried several other Ito En products, including their matcha tea bags and Oi Ocha, and I’ve consistently found their quality excellent. But this matcha is the one that turned me into a repeat customer — and the one I’ll keep buying.

i am really impressed. i’ve been looking for more affordable matcha since this matcha hype has made every brand raise prices. this was the most affordable, though it was cheaper in 2022, i think $20 a 12oz bag, this is the best option out there right now for value!!! definitely more yellow than ceremonial mix but when paired with my latte it looks very vibrant. the taste is slightly sweet with notable green tea flavor. i’ve tried other brands and i haven’t really tasted that green tea flavor through the milk and sugar! my ratio is 3g matcha 30g hot water 120g milk and 20g sweetener of choice. my only concern was the packaging was not the same as shown in the pictures. it made me skeptical if it was really authentic since it has “AUTHENTIC” labeled so huge. (usually brands don’t need to have “authentic” so large if it’s really authentic.) but all in all it tastes really good and looks good so i’m satisfied:)

I’ve tried a few matcha powders. Carrington Farms, Tenzo, Harney & Sons, and some from TJ Maxx that I can’t remember. This one is definitely the best bang for your buck! I really enjoyed Tenzo, until I tasted the one from Harney & Sons. That one was my favorite, but the price was too much to buy on a regular basis. I took a chance and tried this one and I was pleasantly surprised. I would say this one is my second favorite in taste. You also get more than double for a lower price! H&S might be a little smoother than this one, but with all factors considered, this one is takes the cake! As long as the price remains $12, I will continue to purchase. Update on 2nd Bag: I received my second bag and sadly it wasn’t as good as the first. I’ve heard people describing certain matchas as having a fishy taste, but I’ve never experienced it… until now. As a person who doesn’t like the taste of the deep blue sea I was so disappointed. I couldn’t even finish my cup. I could even smell a hint of it in the powder. I guess I’m back on the search. Such a great find for the amazing value!! By far, this has been my favorite matcha for my morning matcha latte. I always recommend this product to my friends. Vibrant green color and tastes amazing. I’m not much of a matcha connoisseur, and I don’t drink it on its own (always in lattes with oat milk). If you’re looking for an affordable, daily matcha for making lattes this is perfect. For the price, I highly recommend you at least give it a try.

First try: Beautiful color for a great price. I love that it's a product of Japan. I use matcha mainly for matcha lattes and the taste was great! Much better than my previous cheaper Amazon matcha powder. Though, as some of the reviews suggested, it does need to be very well whisked. My standard whisk resulted in a few matcha powder clumps in my iced latte. Second try: I read on Google that clumping is "usually a sign of high-quality matcha." In fact, when you buy a traditional matcha set, it will come with a fine mesh seive. You are supposed to sift matcha to break up the clumps. After sifting and whisking with hot water, there were zero clumps in my matcha latte! It came out perfect. I think I found my new favorite matcha powder. Great quality and great price.

This is a great matcha for the price. I have it every morning in place of coffee. While I love higher quality matcha powder, I just cannot afford to spend $30 for 40g of matcha. This tastes great and is much more reasonable cost wise. I enjoy it. Just make sure the shipping is done through amazon. The package I got was delayed multiple times and when it did arrive, it was covered in what I assume was gasoline. I am totally fine with the product itself, I order this matcha regularly. I am unsure of what went on during transit. The help I got in trying to sort this matter out was pretty limited as you cannot return food items. I wish I could order a new one, but the larger option appears to only be offered by outside vendors.

This green tea powder was made into a beautiful homemade green tea ice cream. A family favourite.
