I purchased one of these drives years ago for storing various files and it got tons of use... and then a few months ago, our power went out unexpectedly and the drive files seemed lost. I immediately purchased another because it had worked really well before and I figured it must have been a bad outage. After all, the drive had been through other outages before. While the new drive was on the way, however, I found a free program online that allows you to try and recover files (one folder at a time, unless you have the cash to support the developers and get the plus package - which I didn't). Even though we thought the first drive was lost, I was able to recover all the files with this program and also fix the drive itself without reformatting. So now the new drive is our backup and we're still using the first one. Too long, didn't read? One lasted me for years and was recovered via software when it quit working. If you're looking for a good drive that will last, get one of these.

This WD 4TB external hard drive works perfectly. It’s fast, reliable, and has plenty of storage space for backups, files, and videos. Setup was very easy, just plug and play. The design is compact and easy to carry, making it great for everyday use or travel. So far, performance has been consistent with no issues. Definitely a great option if you need a dependable external drive with large capacity.

I have had 2 units. The first unit would not install on my computer. I returned it thru Amazon and had the replacement in 2 days. The newest unit installed perfectly! There are very few instructions to come with it but are a great many legal information(s). Use the website and the support section for most of your information. It was a good buy for the money, runs cooly, has a lot of flexibility and is small in size. It comes preformatted but that is changeable.

Fantastic for backing up computers, data and photos. 4TB is quiet large so be prepared to spend hours baking up initially. Then use incremental back ups. I keep 2 copies; one in a safe and one off-site. This is a "cloud" that I know won't go out of business and abandon my data.

I’ve been using the WD 4TB My Passport portable external hard drive for about a month now and so far it’s been working exactly as advertised. Setup was quick and simple. I like the compact size and that it’s powered through USB, so it’s easy to toss in my bag and use with my laptop on the go. I haven’t had any reliability issues yet, though it’s still early days, so I’m cautiously optimistic this will be a dependable long-term backup solution.

I wanted to increase the storage capacity for my Chromebook and was looking for something affordable and good quality. This fit the bill exactly! I highly recommend it

Installation was fairly easy, with a few stumbling blocks. The printed manual was useless. ( I hate the printed manuals that come with today's products. They are typically printed in 6 languages in a micro font too small to read and folded into little bundles that are difficult to unfold and refold. Fortunately, the manuals are usually available online, but you may have to search for them.) I downloaded the Acronis True Image WD app and set it up to do automatic full and incremental backups.
