Sturdy Rain-Shelter and Screen Tent
This thing is awesome. But, I recommend heading over to your local Fleet Farm (for you good folks in MN, Wisc, IA, and the Dakotas) and checking for a sale on this screen house. I've seen it regularly for seventy nine, ninety nine and as low as fifty nine, ninety nine. In fact I liked mine so much I bought an extra as insurance in case a zipper breaks or side rips, but it is built so nicely I haven't needed the spare. The thing is plenty big to fit over the standard 8' picnic table found in my state's parks. The walls are nearly vertical to maximize the space and you get a large ceiling for rain coverage. There are two doors on opposite ends and often times, if there are no bugs, we pull both sets of doors to the sides like curtains (there are loops to hold them) and you basically get a nice big canopy without always having to zip/un-zip all the time. This also makes the area under the canopy feel more spacious by opening two walls. Setup is not one person, but can be done with the help of another. You basically run two large fiberglass poles, and one smaller pole, through the ceiling fabric sleeves and place them in the plastic corner-holds or nylon fabric pockets respectively. Then place the four metal corner poles in each plastic corner-hold (the plastic corner-holds are very thick and well engineered BTW). Tie the tent side-corners to the corner poles. Then either move the tent over the table or move the table into the tent, stake it down, and you're done. The main issue we have with this screen is that it is quite large and if you have uneven ground the base may or may not be flush with the ground, but that is not the fault of the tent. There is a loop inside at the top for hanging your favorite LED lantern and the tent is easily sturdy enough to support a sizable lantern. Not that I care to impress the Jones's, but I get a lot of positive comments and questions about where I got it. It looks good, functions well, and for what I paid for it at Fleet Farm (59.99) the price is outstanding. I've had other Field-n-Forest products and they always seem well made and reasonably priced. I've camped for 20 years and pretty much have seen every derivation of screen tent known to man. A lot of them ended up in a dumpster after a year or two. I've had this for 5 years and its still going strong. While it may not be as clever (or massive) as some of the other screen tents and shelters, it has served my family of 5 well. One other thing is that it packs up into a bag that is about 3 ft. by 12" and is easily stored in a smaller vehicle or pop-up camper.
