What is the exact diameter of the black plastic portion when the clock is turned over? I’m going to put the wooden frame around another clock. Thanks!

The area of plastic that is raised up from the wood has a diameter of 14 1/2 inches, the plastic extends slightly more but is flush with the wood portion of the clock.

It is really silent ( no ticking)?

Yes it’s totally silent. Very pleased with this clock.

is this the atomic clock?

No. This clock is not atomic. It is a standard analog clock.

does the wood frame lay flat against the wall? Or, can you see the plastic backing?

The wood frame doesn’t set flat against the wall. However, the wooden frame extends beyond the black plastic. Mine sets above the kitchen window and between the upper kitchen cabinets. I find it difficult to see the plastic.
