A great supplement for a great system
I would recommend Monster of the Week even if this never came out, but the possibilities this expansion opens the setting up to a wider range of stories and characters, and I don't just mean from the new classes. If you've never played in this system before, Monster of the Week was made to create games that played out like popular TV shows such as Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or Hellboy. You're a team of professional monster hunters, but you aren't invincible. You have to gather intel and come up with a plan, otherwise you won't be able to keep The Monster down. That doesn't mean that you have no powers; Magic is an option for anyone Weird enough to pull it off! There are 2 great things about this expansion, and the first one is directly related to the thing about Magic: In the standard Monster of the Week, Magic is useless to anyone who isn't of a Magic class; even the Chosen (based on Buffy), who can get a high Weird rating, rarely has use for it. However, with the new Weird moves, there's now an option that's perfect for playing a once-in-a-generation hero, that lets you consult the Monster Hunters of old. The other options, while they may be more challenging for certain characters, are more likely to come in handy during an average play session. The other great thing is the Phenomena investigation tips. X-Files was always cited as an inspiration (the Flake is a direct reference to Agent Mulder and the Lone Gunmen) but now its brand of cases is has official support.

This is the icing on the delicious cake that is Monster of the Week
Great supplement with helpful advice and several adventures/mysteries you can run or use to build your own arch around. A few more monsters stated out. Fingers crossed the next supplement is a Monstrous Compendium. Oh! Also the texture of the cover has a delightful velvety rubberized coating and I love the portability of a smaller soft cover book.

Adds more fun stuff to the game
By no means essential to enjoy Monster of the Week, but this book definitely contributes some good stuff. The new archetypes are cool, and I really enjoyed a lot of the optional rules. My favorite is new alternates for using magic. This came in handy when I played a character (The Professional) that was absolutely mundane, and swapped out any use of magic for amazing intuition. You can also have more mad science- or psionic-themed versions of magic that limit the scope of what you can do but allow what you can do to have more pow and more flavor. There are also some stories you can use as one-shots or incorporate into your campaign. I have not used any yet, but have been inspired by some of them.Really worth it if you play Monster of the Week and find yourself wanting to play more.

I love MotW and I adore this addition.
The Tome of Mysteries is a must have for anyone who enjoys the game Monster of the Week. It expands the rules for the system I. All the right ways, making Use Magic significantly more elligant and diverse. Not to mention the inclusion of a variety of mysteries that will keep even the most ravenous gaming group entertained for a number of years. As well as insightful articles and pieces about the nature of the game. Really I cannot recommend Tome of Mysteries nearly enough.

Great addition to the PBTA lineup
As a fan of the Powered by the Apocalypse games, this book is a welcome addition to my gaming library because it adds more tropes and detailed monsters as well as story ideas to weave into the stories and games we play. Love the form factor and size of the paperback and it is chock full of info regarding playing a mystery or horror scenario.
