Description
The lower-profile Mudsill work shoe is packed with features to add comfort and protection on the job, including a rugged, polyurethane-coated split suede leather upper, a steel safety-toe, a cushioned midsole, and a heat-, slip-, oil-, and abrasion-resistant, non-marking rubber outsole for better traction on all surfaces. This shoe also features our Timberland PRO 24/7 Comfort System technology to help reduce foot fatigue, support your arch, and cushion every step. The breathable, moisture-wicking lining is made of ReBOTL material containing at least 50% recycled plastic. Timberland's Mudsill hiker looks great, with its breathable mesh and soft--yet durable--suede upper, but it also works hard. Whether you're on the job or on the trail, its comfort padding, steel toe, and lugged outsole will deliver a sure, steady, comfortable, and protected step.

snug at first
Just got these today and wanted to note something important before I forgot. I'll update this review later if necessary, but it's definitely a 5-star for now. When I first put them on, they felt like my size, but I felt like they were a little snug at the forefoot, right before the toes (especially for "wides"). I also worried that the toebox might be a bit small. They were comfortable, but I was a little concerned how they might feel after standing all day, when your feet may tend to swell a little.Typically, these sneaker-style safety shoes require very little to no break-in. But, after wearing these around the house for about six hours, they have loosened up quite a bit and are now perfectly comfortable. There's also good flexibility in the lacing system for adjustments, should they loosen up too much. So, don't worry if they are a bit snug at first. Maybe wear them on carpet for a while, do some kneeling and walk around quite a bit to see if they loosen up before returning them.Other than that, this is my third pair of Timberland Pro's (over the years), and I would say this pair fits my feet truer to size than the previous ones, which were a bit roomy. One foot is slightly larger than the other, so there's a somewhat narrow range for me to achieve dual-foot nirvana, and these do the trick. In my view, these shoes have the best stability of any sneaker-style safety shoe that I've had to date. In fact, despite having taken off a pair of boots to put these on, I have had to be reminded several times that these aren't boots! They didn't try to make a running shoe with a steel toe, and I really appreciate that.I like the aggressive soles, because you can transition between inside and outside jobs with the same shoe; however, as others have noted, you don't get as much rubber hitting the asphalt, so to speak, and may bust your *** on a slick, smooth surface as a result. In and around my house, the soles have been pretty grippy on synthetic hardwood, real hardwood and unfinished concrete surfaces. They are not nearly as non-slip as a quality hiking boot with a sticky, soft, floor-marking outsole, but who wants to wear a $150-200 boot to work and wear the soles out in 3 months? Finally (for now), having shoelaces that aren't completely black adds just a touch of flair. It's a minor thing, but that bit of subtlety breaks up the monotony of the solid black shoe while preserving a "professional" appearance. If you are on the fence, these shoes are worth giving a shot.

Cheapest Shoe Laces-To thin won't Last, hard to tie
The shoes seem to be well-made and are comfortable. Someone decided to use ultra-thin and short shoe laces. I expect they can save $.05 per pair; so the user suffers. The thin laces are hard to sinch up as they are too short to really pull and tying is a finger tip endeavor.

Happy Happy wit da shoes
So far so good. I can't comment about the longevity of the shoe at this time. I can tell you its a very comfortable shoe. I walk a lot (Electrician) and I'm typically pretty hard on shoes. I normally buy Red wings but I wanted something lighter. I usually wear out a pair in a years time and get them resoled. If I get a year out of these and toss them I'm money ahead. If you were trying these on in a shoe store you would buy them because the fit is good, there comfortable and don't pinch., they look good, have a steel toe and the price is good. There would be no reason not to buy them . So far very happy.Update 12=10-2013. I got pedometer app on my phone and have been averaging 4 miles a day. Today I walked 7. Three out at the forest preserve. I wore these shoes instead of my walking shoes and found them to be more comfortable. I really like them.Update 7-21-16 Well I got almost three years out of these shoes, figure I put a couple thousand miles on them, the soles are wore down and smooth and the uppers are starting to come apart. Pretty good, There still comfortable to walk in but like I said their time has come and gone. I just ordered another pair and I know I will be retired before I wear the new ones out.

Best I’ve found so far
As compared to a host of other footwear I have tried in the past, these are my current favorite. I am hard on shoes/boots, working in the Home Improvement/ Remodeling area and am constantly exposed to both interior and exterior abuses such as demolition (old wood, nails, tile, cement board, metals, wiring, appliances, mud, water, mortar, adhesives, stone, block… etc..) and a truckload of tools that can, and have removed digits. Needless to say I have a vested interest in staying light in my feet while protecting them to the best of my ability. They are comfortable, relatively light weight, and pretty tough all around. With that said, they still do develop issues at the toe with fabric separation. They would greatly benefit from some extra protection there. I ended up putting steel reinforced epoxy on them at the toe area and haven't had a problem since. I would certainly recommend them.

The Perfect Construction Worker's Shoe
[Review written on behalf of my husband] I don't normally write reviews but I thought it was time to do so for these shoes since I've been buying them - almost exclusively - for my husband for about 5 years now. Being on his feet all day as a construction worker for 20+ years has taken a toll on his feet, legs, and back and after complaining that his work boots (the tall, tan ones) that he wore for years were getting to be too heavy to wear, I found these Timberlands on a whim in a sporting goods store. He was skeptical but ended up LOVING them. They're lightweight (as compared to a work boot - still a little heavier than a sneaker being that they have a steel toe) and plenty comfortable to wear all day long. The wide (2EE) is wide enough to comfortably fit a thick sock and toe warmers during our cold New England months. As an electrician, he is required to wear ANSI-rated shoes and while most shoes of this style do not offer this rating, these Timberlands do. He's tried a couple other brands in the past 5 years but he keeps coming back to these. Thanks to Timberland for offering such a fantastic work shoe!

Comfortable durable
Excellent steel toe work shoe , not to heavy but comfortable and very durable, nice style,, not spacey or snakeskin like newer PRO series ,,, look good for quite awhile, stitching lasts and rubber stays together I give them thumbs up or 5 stars or a "like" whatever worth the money
