Lizard Skins DSP Bartape 3.2 mm Unisex Adult Handlebar Tape Jet Black, One Size

Recently, I ordered the Lizard Skins 3.0 bar tape, but after installation I felt that it added entirely too much thickness to my drop bars. My drops are 31.8, so they’re fairly wider at the top than traditional drops. So I ordered the 1.8 thickness and found the sweet spot. I believe that the 1.8 offers the perfect thickness and proportion, especially for 31.8 drops. The 1.8 offers good comfort, cushion, and grip. The installation was simple... I followed the manufacturer’s installation instructions and did not have a problem. In my opinion, the reviewers whom experienced issues either did not have experience installing bar tape, or did not follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions. The manufacturer’s instructions are found in the packaging, and they also have made video tutorials which can be found on the manufacturer’s YouTube channel. One of the main points from the manufacturer is DO NOT STRETCH the tape as you would traditional bar tape. You want to keep the tape firm and under steady pressure throughout the installation process. Also, make sure that the adhesive strip is applied to the drop bars... NOT THE TAPE ITSELF. Once the installation is complete, insert whichever plugs that suits you and you’re almost done. At this point, if you discover problems in your bar application, don’t be intimidated to undo and reapply the tape. The adhesive hasn’t fully bonded yet. Once all is well and everything looks and feels proportionate, GENTLY GRIP the drops and smooth out the adhesive onto the bar by working your hands up and down the drops. You should hear a crackle like noise while undergoing this step, that’s simply the tape adhesive bonding to the bars. After that you’ve successfully installed your bar tape and you’re ready to ride!

I really love this bar tape. It stays tacky allowing for long lasting grip on long rides. Even in wet weather. Her in Washington we get alot of that. It wraps super clean with minimal stretch and stays in place for what seems like forever. I usually change at least once every 2 years depending on how many miles I ride. Maybe once a year. The thickness is perfect giving a nice solid feel to the bars with remarkable cushion. I like grabbing the tops of the bars when climbing, and this thickness has a great grip along with superb comfort. Looking for great bar tape that will hold up, this should be your first choice.

I’m an avid road cyclist. I have generally used sticky kush bar tape in the past, but I was looking for something thicker since I do a lot of century rides. After doing lots of research online, I went with this 3.1mm Lizard Skins tape on my red bike (nearly got the 4.6mm but it seemed excessive). Sure it’s expensive, but I couldn’t be happier with the quality, the look and most importantly the cushion that it gives my hands and wrists. Highly recommend!

I love this tape. The last batch lasted 3 years with constant usage. When it did fall apart it was the outer skin that started peeling off slowly unlike some tapes that kind of explode when worn out. Plus the lizard green color matches the seat on my gravel bike.

This compatible for use on my kayak paddle. It cushions my hands from the bar. Provides good grip without slipping. I'm getting a lot of use out of it, good value. This tape is thick enough to give a padded feel.

I have Lizard Skins bartape on all three of my road bikes. Two have the 4.3 mm tape and one has the 3.2 mm. I like the thicker tape for the cushion, but the 3.2 is not far behind for comfort. I've installed this bartape four or five times and I found a couple of tricks that help the process along. First, I use double-stick tape at the handlebar end and at the center where the tape will terminate, and I put double-stick tape on the back of the cheater strips that cover the shifter brackets as well. Doing this saves some frustration since the adhesive strip on the Lizard Skins bartape is designed more for easy removal than for strong adhesion. (I've also removed the Lizard Skins bartape and reinstalled it after changing out handlebars--it's much easier to remove and reinstall than those bartapes that leave half the backing on the handlebar when you try to remove it.) I start the tape leaving about 1/2 overhang beyond the handlebar end. It usually takes two or three tries to negotiate the shifter, so I do just a couple of wraps before unfolding the rubber hoods to see how I did. Tucking the bartape into the handlebar end used to be a hassle until I figured out that I could use four or five 1-inch strips of electrical tape to fold the the bartape over into the handlebar end and secure it before I pound in the plug.

I set myself up for a challenge by using these for my first wrapping attempt, so I take some blame for the functional if ugly result. They did stand up to the repeated wrapping and re-wrapping better than other reviews led me to believe. These are as comfortable as you'd expect, but the extra padding does make them difficult to wrap at the curved parts of the bar - especially considering the warning not to stretch the tape while wrapping. My bars feature a sort of flattened ergo sweep at the corners that makes them far wider on the outside of the curve than on the inside, and that exacerbates the conventional issues with wrapping the curves. I wouldn't recommend this tape thickness on bars with similarly dynamic curvature, unless you're ok with visible seems. I plan to go down a thickness level next time.

Initially I was worried that this wasn't real or it could be the older dsp version which is not what I wanted. My enquiries were not answered by Amazon. They simply said that I could return it if it is not the product that I want. Thankfully the lizard skins dsp v2 bar tape is original and it comes with the regular packaging with the content intact. Hopefully it works as recommended by so many users.
