GREAT high zinc oil - a MUST for older and flat-tappet engines!
Perfect oil for my old car! I have trusted Lucas for many, many years, so when I saw their Hot Rod & Classic Car SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil, I immediately purchased it. I just rebuilt the original 428 FE engine in my 1966 Ford Country Squire, a "survivor" that we just found and bought. It had been sitting for over 10 years and not run, so it got a full rebuild. I used a different "break-in" oil and immediately switched to this Lucas Hot Rod & Classic Car SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil to run since it has a higher zinc content, a must for older and flat tappet engines! I will be running this going forward and I always keep one 5-quart bottle on hand.

Oil for the old car I tinker with after shifts
A night shift leaves me craving a quiet project, so I bought this for my older classic car. I checked the manual first, and 10W-40 was the grade I needed. On my first oil change, I worked on it after a Saturday shift, still in my scrubs, with coffee nearby. The 5-quart jug was manageable to pour, and I had enough for the change without making another trip to the store. The car started up normally afterward, which was a nice little relief when I was tired. Iโm glad I had the right oil ready instead of putting the job off again. ๐

Flat tappet lifters are safe again
I have used this in a 1956 Oldsmobile with a 324 and about 100k miles. I have also used it in a 1961 Chrysler Newport with a 361 with about 120k miles. All original drivetrain configuration on both vehicles. This oil worked great in ensuring had sufficient zinc content for the flat tappet lifters. Have been using this for years to take the guess work out of trying to find the right additive mix or flat tappet sensitive oils. This product isn't really needed if you have roller lifters. There is research that shows once you have the engine fully worn in after 20k miles, zinc additive may not be necessary. I decided to err on the side of caution and use this oil anyway because of the higher zinc content and have never had an issue. Some use diesel Rotella oil and that seems to work as well. I'm interested in supporting any organization that tries to keep the classic vehicle hobby alive so I felt this was the better option. Adding a separate Zinc additive never has the same positive impact as a full formulation like with this oil. I've found it provides excellent cooling properties as well. Have bought a few bottles and will buy again.

Possible best value oil for flat tappet cam
Did an in depth investigation between all the flat tappet cam oil options. This appears to be the best value for my classic truck. Will update if necessary. Amsoil hot rod may offer superior protection, but is more money. Additionally, lucas has more oil weight options. This also has more zddp than valveoline vr1.

Top engine oil
Yes, this is expensive stuff but if you want the ultimate wear protection for older engines you canโt get much better than this.
