Greater Value than Expected
I recently purchased a piece of property on a shallow lake. It is a very quiet community, so I thought an electric trolling motor would be appropriate for just cruising along the lake. I read several reviews done by others on this Newport product, and watched videos that were posted showing the motor in action.I have to say that I am beyond impressed with what I purchased. I chose the 62 lb thrust motor since it can be used on various size boats. I have a 12' StarCraft rowboat that is an older and well-constructed boat. That means it has some weight to it. I was able to cruise along through the weedy places with no trouble at all. A very clever design feature is the adjustable collar that allow the motor to be raised or lowered depending upon the depth from the floor to the propeller. Once I was in open water, I selected the highest speed and was amazed at how very well it moved me along. It will be put to a full test next week when my wife and 3 others will be using the boat. The weight of the motor is great in that it is light enough for my wife to carry it without hurting her shoulder. This was another selling point. It installs in seconds which mean no heavy lifting for a long period of time..I have only one major concern that I experienced that could easily be remedied with a design modification. The forward and reverse motion is controlled by a twist of the handle. If you install the motor and accidentally have the motor in any of the power settings before you hook up the battery, the motor will turn and you could get injured. Yes, common sense would demand that the battery no be hooked up until the motor is in the water, but the potential for injury does exist. Perhaps they can incorporate a safety switch that interrupts the power going to the motor.I purchased a deep cycle lithium battery to power the motor. I ran for about a couple of miles at full speed and measured the voltage at the battery after I finished the run. The power loss was only a .01 drop from the 12.8 volts. There is a built in battery level series of LED's that tell you at a glance how much power you have left. This is a testimony to not only the quality of the battery, but also to the low amp draw of the motor. It is very efficient. It is very well made and I expect many years of use out of this unit. There are replacement parts available which is encouraging.Final word, for the price you will not find a better motor that has all the features of those that are priced much, much higher. I expect Newport to be around a while.

Great Motor for the price
Really happy with the power of the motor. I'm using it on a pontoon boat of an all electric lake. Good speed and maintained the battery on a long cruise.

not enough power for a dinghy at sea
Great trolling motor and easy to use, but wasn't enough power for my dinghy to tender to the island while moored in Catalina. Wish I'd thought of upgrading the propeller before I'd returned it.
User
Great product
For the price compared to other trolling motors this thing is great. Lots of low end tourge to get going and really moves along. There is also a whole line of parts which is nice. I have only used this 3 times so far but compared to the minnkota itโs far better

Donโt purchase returned items from Amazon
I purchased this Amazon slightly discounted item believing the Amazon story that it was in very good condition. When i opened the beat up shipping box the first thing I noticed was that the three blade prop was damaged and not usable. Also the prop nut was missing and the prop shaft showed signs of leakage or was it corrosion at the motor shaft seal. The screw device holding the shaft up did not work. I hooked up the power cables correctly to a fully charged 12v battery and the motor would not turn in fwd or reverse. Unhooked cables pushed reset on breaker reconnected cables, still nothing! NOT HAPPY! Returned to Amazon for a refund, Ordered a new one. Apparently buying an amazon return is a scam. 1 Star because delivery was as advertised. Waiting on full refundโฆ

Great trolling motor
Awesome trolling motor. Moves my 17โ semi-v quick on lakes, ponds, and even fast moving rivers.Light enough to easily put on and take off as needed. Also holds up well when up against rocky shallows.Telescopic handle is a nice bonus as well.

Customer support sucks
Letโs start by saying it a good motor. The directional lock mechanism broke the second week in using it. I contacted the company and they say it was no really way of fixing it so there is no way of tightening the motor down when you raise it up to use you large motor. I would definitely consider a different brand when I purchased my next one other than that it is a decent motor, but this tiny part is obviously a flaw in the design and should be addressed.

Worked great on a homemade boat
Used it on our homemade boat and it was much more efficient and faster than previous motor. We built a picnic/floating table and added the motor to spice things up and tour our lake.

Good product condition and fast delivery
Product is in good condition. Can't wait until i install it to my Kayak. I really appreciate the fast delivery way sooner than the estimated time.

Great little motor.
Great little motor. We use this to cruise around the lake on our floating dock. Easy to mount/unmount. When connected to a marine battery, it lasts all day.
User
Excellent motor
I have used this motor many times. It is really good motor, very strong and durable. I have a 6ft long bowl boat which the engine broke in the middle of the lake last year, in my vacation. This small electrical motor bring me back to shore. Excellent product.

Quality
I bought 62lb of thrust and have 12v 200amp lithium iron phosphate can handle 200amp discharge I might have to send back if I can't use battery it has more then enough power I can understand even a 60 amp battery has 120 amp discharge max this motor can not take more then 58amps and has 60 amp breaker I put 3 stars if I can't use lithium iron phosphate the safest battery yet I just update you can use lithium iron phosphate voltage can't be over 13.5 a fully charged life04 floot at 14.4 but when off charger is goes to 13.6 is normal so I changeing star rating we will see will give update
