Great light at a good price!
We were so pleased with this Lightdow LD-160 Ultra High Power Dimmable video light that we ordered a second one! In addition to being able to use it on our Canon 70D for movie making, we also use it in our studio for side lighting in our pottery photos. It is very, very bright and the fact that it is dimmable allows for perfect removal of shadows. The filters allow for very nice composition. I have not used the "cool" or "warm" filters yet so I can't speak to them. I use the "soft white" filter for my pottery photography. The soft white acts as a diffuser giving a very nice light. While we are waiting on a compatible battery we are using 4-AA batteries and it works great. I have used it for subjects up to about 12 feet with plenty of light. Although it fits well in the camera hot shoe, I really prefer to put it on a little stand for side lighting. So, we think this is a great little light for the price and can recommend it.

Used in Africa, United States Church Service and as Video Production Light
Christmas Sunday, just as the preacher was about to share the message - high winds knocked out a transformer and the church electric went out. Luckily I just purchased one of these lights and as you can tell - it illuminated with intensity and the battery life is amazing. I first used one of these in Africa, where there is not electricity - we would set up 2 - 4 of these and can light up an entire village and it takes a long time for the batteries to drain. I now own 2 of these - and the missionary who was speaking in this picture owns at least 4. I should have used the diffuser that comes with the unit for this picture - but I was scrambling in the dark to find the light I just bought.... as we didn't expect the electric to shut off. We also use one with a colored diffuser to light up the manger scene during church. It lasts for each service during the entire Christmas season. I love the tester on the back that you can press and it indicates how much battery life you have.(These pictures were illuminated with the light - I didn't use the diffuser because we mainly needed BRIGHT LIGHT.... so turning it down and using the diffuser would make for better video.... we just needed a lot of light in each of these instances that I wasn't trying to get a "professional looking" video of photo)

Too much plastic
To start, it is a good light. It gives plenty of brightness to my videos. I can adjust the saturation to whatever I need. With that being said, there is one drawback:It is all plastic. I had the light on my camera, and my center post was no tight enough and the weight of the camera and light made the camera slide down. When it hit the base it stopped very quickly. When it did that, the base of the light broke off (good thing was, I was filming on grass). It was not even that much of a hard stop. I used super glue to re-attach the base, and it is holding. Bad thing is, I can not tighten or loosen the screw, so I have to wiggle the light off of the camera when I am done using it. The product for lighting is good, but the construction stinks if it can not handle a small jolt. I move my camera around a lot, so this was disturbing when it broke. Only buy if you are not going to move your camera and tripod around.

Great Value for Supplemental Photography Lighting
I liked the ease of use of this product. It slides right onto the top of my Canon Rebel and produces the light I need to obtain good Real Estate Photography, saving me hours of editing and photo lightening.

Great for low/no light video, very bright, but squeals
Notice! This light emits an audible sequel when powered halfway up or higher. Just be aware that if you want to use this like on your camera, and use the camera mic, you will pick up this high pitched squeal. At least the unit I have emits this whine, which is why I have knocked one star off.Other than the squeal issue, which isn't really a problem for me since I don't use the camera mic for audio, this is a nice unit. It's very bright! It can illuminate your subject very well in complete darkness and the video comes out looking great with very rich blacks.Works well for getting b-roll of things that are hard to light. This thing is pretty heavy, so make sure your hotshoe can take the weight. The Panasonic G7 handles it well.It fits into any hotshoe, and can be angled. It came with 3 filters. Overall, I'm happy with it, but it would be better if it did not produce and audible squeal. Again, this is based on the unit I purchased. Perhaps my unit is a dud as I have not seen this issue in other reviews, but I can only go by the unit I purchased and received.

Love it.
Love it. It works great, is very bright, and for my purposes of making corny internet videos it's perfect. I guess if there's one thing i would change it's that it doesn't come with a battery, and uses a lot of AA batteries if you don't have a compatible rechargeable battery (the batteries my Cannon t5 use aren't compatible). But after loading it up with AAs a few weeks ago, they still show a full charge on back light display. It screws into a tripod too, so if you use your hot shoe for flash, or just want to have something other than direct lighting, it's good to go.

Multiple Applications Limited Only By Your Imagination
I guess I didn't read the description, I thought it also worked as a flash. It doesn't. However, it still works, and probably better than a flash. It actually allows you to see what you are shooting. I'm amazed at how bright it will get if you turn it all the way up. It will even double as a flashlight. My wife was having a problem working in a small dark place. A flashlight wasn't giving her enough light to see so I got the Lightdown out, turned it up on high and didn't have a bit of trouble. I am now seeing other applications I can use it for.

Having fun pretending I'm a Pro!!!
This high power light is fun to work with. I love experimenting since I received it, with before and after pictures, and I have to say it is quite impressive. Fun to work with & makes a novice like me feel like a pro. The family is starting to run away when they see me whip it out... they are not so keen on holding still for me quite yet. For the low price of this model, I think every camera should have one. This truly makes great pictures look spectacular. Fun & easy to work with & very easy to understand and work with. Two thumbs up!!!
