MG217 2% Coal Tar Psoriasis Gel, Non-Drying Multi-Symptom Treatment - 4 oz Tube

After getting COVID and moving to a very dry climate, I acquired terrible psoriasis on my scalp and other parts of my body. I had gone to at least 5 dermatologists, and everything they gave me for either condition made it worse or just did not help at all. Now my scalp psoriasis and other patches aren't completely cured, but using this along with their 3% salicylic acid shampoo puts my scalp psoriasis into remission and makes it tolerable. Only down side is the smell, but I tried a coal-tar shampoo that didn't smell and it didn't work. Just light a candle in the shower when you use it. I use this first- massage into scalp and let it sit. Then I do the same with the 3% salicylic acid shampoo, and end with this one. It sounds weird but it worked for me. Who would've thought something on amazon helped more than what doctors gave. Wish I had a before and after of the front of my scalp!

I have had some exzema about 2 years starting on my shins from wearing hunting boots.....I had no idea what it was until I went to my dermatologist....he wrote a script for a product that contained prednisone which worked but has the potential for fairly complex side affects.....so I did a search and came across MG217....down side is the material has some odor from the coal tar....but I can't detect it since it is on my shins and under a sock...so....the other odorless MG217 is fine....I occassionaly get a flare up on my stomach or chest from where my T-Shirt brushes against the skin...so I apply some to that area as well.. I have had zero side effects and the stuff works....very small amounts are needed>

Come on, all you complainers about the smell, it works! I don't mind the smell - it reminds me of my childhood when going to various places in the Adirondacks that used creosote coated telephone poles as parking barriers. Anyway, I use Equate extra strength coal tar shampoo every day and this 1-2x/day, and it has greatly reduced my scalp itching, when Selsun Blue and Head and Shoulders didn't touch it. Will continue to use until it eliminates the problem. As far as the cancer scare, research shows that it originated from evidence that workers exposed to high occupational levels of coal tar over extended periods tend to be more likely to get certain cancers (not the small levels in this).

I have been using this product for years, but this was the first time I purchased the tube. I usually buy the plastic container with the screw off top. I’m not sure if this is new, or I just never noticed the same product in a different form. The tube is more of a thick liquid, while the plastic container is a thicker presentation, like a balm. There are pluses to both kinds, so I’m going to say both are good for different applications. The tube, because it is thinner, spreads out easier, but I use this in my eyebrows, so the thicker type, in the plastic container is a little easier to use near the eyes. You can easily use either, if you are careful. Most importantly, this stuff works better than any prescription ointment I have tried, and I have tried a lot. I use this for a dry skin condition, and this eliminates it, in either the tube, or the container. I have both at home, and use both with great success. While it does help and neutralize the irritation quite well there is inconsistency in the texture of this gel. I was getting it once a month and some times its like gel other times its like cream/ointment texture and the smell is quite strong in the second case.

Best psoriasis ointment around. Cleared up issues within days. Very happy with the product and hope it comes back in stock soon

Works on ecexma

I’m a a guy who reads product reviews…especially for products I’ve never used before. This time was no different as I read both good and bad reviews for this product. However, having tried countless other soaps, creams and gels designed to alleviate the itch caused by my psoriasis, I was borderline desperate and decided to buy it despite all of the reviews describing the smell as awful/horrible. When I picked up the Amazon shipping box it came in and brought it inside my house, I first thought the bottle might have leaked/popped because of how strong the odor was even before I opened the box. Turns out the bottle was intact and the product simply smelled that strong…confirming all of the negative reviews. I simply cannot describe to you how insanely strong and HORRIBLE the smell is. Anyone who has seen Anchorman will get this reference, but as Ron Burgundy said…”Brian, I’m gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline.” For me, it truly does smell worse than the time “the raccoon got stuck in the copier”. I actually waited 3 days before I tried it, and only then out of desperation because my psoriasis ankle was itching so badly I couldn’t stand not to. I read followed the instructions on the bottle carefully and used only a minuscule amount. I even put on two pairs of socks just to prevent the odor from emanating everywhere I went, which of course didn’t work seeing as within 10 minutes of arriving at work, my boss came into my office, took one sniff, and asked if I’d taken a swim in a pool filled with jet fuel. As soon as I got home, I threw out my now-ruined socks and immediately took a shower and scrubbed my ankle with half a bar of strong smelling soap just to get rid of the smell. When THAT didn’t work, I thought about those commercials where people use dishwashing soap to clean oil off water fowl. So I went and got my bottle of Dawn PowerWash, hoisted my leg up on the bathroom counter, and FINALLY got enough of the smell off my ankle so that my bed sheets wouldn’t reek like a Chevron station. It was at that point that I said enough is enough and called my dermatologist. Though I didn’t notice an itch while the gel was on my ankle, I really didn’t have it on long enough to notice a long term difference. If you’re desperate for relief from the psoriasis itch and don’t care how bad it smells, then buy this gel. You’ll smell like you just finished cleaning up an oil spill, but who knows…you might just be into that.
